I really don't want this review to sound like I'm knocking the place -- it has many nice things going for it. The location is great for being a jumping off point to the Keys. The price was right for a mid-February vacation, one night only here. When we first arrived, we walked all around the building to find the entrance. We couldn't find it, turned around and came back and a nice young man came out of the restaurant door and asked us if we were looking for the hotel. I bet that happens a lot as there is no sign on the door next to the restaurant stating it's the hotel. Once inside, a friendly woman guided us to our first floor room at the back of the building and asked us if it was to our satisfaction. It looked clean so we said yes. The room had standard hotel amenities, including a hair dryer, but also a dehumidifier. The room smelled a little musty, so that's why the dehumidifier is in there. I didn't notice the smell, and my boyfriend only noticed it after we'd been in the room for a while. He said if he'd noticed it right off the bat, we probably would have left. The young man and lady in charge were super nice and did everything they could to make our stay pleasant. When we asked about parking, if we could go out to dinner elsewhere and come back and find a spot in the lot, they were a bit iffy. They said the lot can fill up at night so we might not get a spot, but we could park across the street, wait until people left and then move our car back into the lot. But then one of them said if all that fails, we could use a spot nearest the building that really isn't a spot at all, but we could wedge our car into that. Luckily when we came back from dinner, there were at least 3 or 4 spots open. I had used the bathroom before we left for dinner and when we came back we noticed that the toilet was running. There wasn't a Kleenex box in the bathroom. Not a huge deal, just use toilet paper instead. When it came time for sleeping, I had a feeling the blinds on the window weren't going to keep the sun out and I was right. Bring a sleeping mask if you like darkness. Also bring earplugs FOR SURE! The first floor room shares a wall with the kitchen and at the end of the evening when the kitchen workers are cleaning up, you can hear pots and pans banging around, the workers shouting to one another, loud talking, loud laughing, etc. All that noise stops around 11, 11:30 p.m. The air conditioner was loud so we turned it off. There was street noise as well. We chose this place based on location and price; it seemed like a good deal and an interesting stay in a quirky hotel, which sometimes can offset lower quality accommodations if you find the place fun or interesting. So while I recommend this place as not too bad (we've definitely stayed in much worse places) I would advise not staying for more than one night. read more

There's no front desk for check in. There's a lock box at the back entrance (your room # and lockbox code is provided via email). We found our room key in the lockbox and headed up the stairs where the rooms were. Upon entering, it smelled of cigarettes. The room is more spacious than I expected. There's a mini fridge, microwave, 2 TVs, coffee pot, ironing board, hangers and a couch. There's also an outdoor seating area, albeit shared with all of your neighbors. It's cleaner than I expected, but we still found a hair in the bed. The bathroom provides a hair dryer, shampoo and soap. However, the towels are very thin and tiny. My bath towel was sopping wet before I could fully dry my hair. There's a door between us and another room that we can hear their conversations very clearly. Also, the restaurant downstairs has live music until 11pm. The wifi doesn't work. Staying one night is OK, but I couldn't do it for longer than that. read more

I lived in Homestead almost all my life and had never been here. We went for birthday drinks and dinner. What a charming place, wonderful service and great food. Redecorated and a new menu helped even more. They offered to show us the rooms even though we didn't stay. Tons of Homestead history on the walls ... so that was cool to see. Service was fantastic. Gave me a free Cosmo for my birthday. Bar tender was fresh with ideas for cool drinks. Outside decorated for evenings also. We really had a great time. I hope they cAn make a go of it. read more

We had such a great experience at Hotel Redland I figured I should write a review, especially since there were not any up yet! I found out about the hotel in an old Fodor's guide book. My boyfriend and I where taking a trip from Daytona Beach down to the Everglades in June. We booked the room which was very affordable for us and sort of didn't know what to expect, there was not a website or pictures up yet as the hotel had just gotten new owners a few months before. The hotel is beautiful, the owners have done a great job of restoring the place. The room we stayed in was perfect, clean and cozy and nicely decorated. The couple that own the place are great, they where extremely helpful and attentive. I actually think that we where the only people staying in the hotel as it was the off season to visit the Everglades. The Whistle Stop restaurant was not open yet so I don't have experience there. In the morning they had set out a typical continental breakfast - bagels, toast, cereal, juice etc. I have no complaints whatsoever. It really made our first trip the the Everglades so memorable, it was so nice to come back to the Hotel Redland after spending a long day at the park. This hotel very much surprised me starting with the building itself, its a classic old hotel, nice comfortable room but the food, the food was amazing. I stayed there for four nights and ate something different every night, all of it was incredible. Great location to explore the Everglades and Biscay while only an hour from Key Largo. I read a review about a pricing difference from Booking.com. Same happened to me and they insisted I was wrong. I informed the person on the phone that I know what I read and what the site said. I got to a point that I no longer cared to argue with stupid and booked at the higher price because my event was fast approaching. The 360 Turn: They jumped through hoops for me. From my late arrival to assisting with my wedding cake. Ensuring I was happy. Wow, I was blown away. Staff was polite and professional. Some people have an off day I guess (person on phone- reservations). My room was clean and comfortable. Housekeeping made sure all essentials were in place and I was stress free for my wedding. I was greeted with smiles from all staff. Breakfast was personalised and prompt. Yes, it was delish. I would not hesitate to book again. read more

My husband found this boutique (giggle) hotel online to stay while waiting on our actual hotel. during a layover. Worried when I saw pics, and then greeted in the lobby, I figured it was just for one night and we would endure. Hotel is dated, smelled musty and had air conditioning CRANKED so much so that we chose to dine outside so we wouldn't have to change into our winter gear to dine inside. Only two towels in bathroom for a couple and 1 kid. ridiculously uncomfortable mattress...like, squeaked when you sat on it, and was concave. Mattresses that you see in horror movies. While here, and exhausted from our travels we ate at the restaurant/martini bar downstairs. Except that the servers cant make a martini. Heres my take on this little place: Locals have a great time! Servers love the locals. Talking, taking pictures, getting extra sauces.. Non locals? Expect to wait longer. That martini you ordered 20 minutes ago (one ingredient btw is gonna be late. But so will your food. I was told my dirty martini with three olives was special and had to be handmade.....wtf?) Speaking to the kitchen now...: Make your own croutons for gawd sake You're in Florida! FRESH SHRIMP! learn to make wine based sauce for mussels! Calamari was super gummy...inedible. Clam chowder? Get a different recipe, STAT or back WAY off the salt. Holy crap. The list goes on... Fries were good but poured into a fryer from a bag. Maybe we are picky, and by "we" I mean me. Yep, I'm a chef. And maybe people that live nearby are less picky. But that caesar salad? Can I have more lettuce with my dressing. Joke. Just a joke. More dressing would be impossible, but then I didn't eat it due to said dressing. Guess that's not a joke. What's with the wonton soup spoons? Gimme a break! They were gone by 1992. Best part about being a chef?? Constantly having the latitude to reinvent your space! Your menu! Stop phoning it in.. Staff: perhaps understand the importance of a 5 minute drink delivery upon guest seating. If you cant get to a guest immediately, briefly stop by to say you will be right there. If a guest asks for a check, NEVER let guests wait! If you cant get to your guests? Ask a fellow server to help. Always CLEAR PLATES When a guest says they want to START with an appetizer dont bring out appetizer AND dinner at once. FINALLY, please dont mention your past should it involve incarceration or community service. But to me that is a no brainer. read more

Ok so......where do I start....... 1. Its a building built in 1904 and it fully embraces its historic roots. From old records, throwback gadgets, to original pictures throughout, its crazy awesome. 2. The people. Every employee in this place is friendly, helpful, knowledgeable of the "haunted" rooms, and always willing to help you or give you a tour. 3. The food. The food.....is......GREAT! Enrique brings his Boston style of cooking to homestead and it's incredible. If you stay in the hotel you get a complimentary breakfast which was a ham, egg, cheese omelet with toast and home fries, with unlimited OJ, and coffee. Thumbs waaaaaay up. 4. The bar. The bartenders are friendly, prompt, mix great drinks, and a big bonus for me.....they play county music videos all day and all night. No cursing or loud music here to ruin conversation. 5. The price. This is one of the more affordable bed and breakfasts in the area and it is my go to place every time I come down for work or pleasure. Headed back from keys? No problem.....book a night and relax before the rest of your drive. Enjoy the amenities and have a few drinks at the bar or in the patio.....take in the history.....or visit the ghost.......either way.....you cannot lose. The hotel side of this venerable business is a real gem. For a reasonable price one gets a quiet comfy room with nice appointments and sometimes even a balcony. However the real revelation here is the restaurant. A recent ownership change has brought outstanding Spanish food! And I do not mean Latin American fare such as Cuban or Mexican, which can be found all over South Florida. The decor is a little odd - it is very English - but the staff is warm and friendly and the food, rooms and service are way beyond what one may expect in Homestead. The Sunday brunch has favorites such as bacon, eggs, ham, pancakes, pastries, etc.....but imagine a buffet with pork ribs, fish, vegetable dishes, seafood paella.... What a treat! Stayed in king bed with balcony room Friday night; came to visit the Everglades National Park. Good clean comfortable quiet accommodations; kinda expensive. Nice toiletries (like white tea and honey shampoo by ecobotanics), nice shower and bathroom overall (has an exhaust fan un like the Floridian; nicer bathroom than Floridian that I stayed in the night prior. Nice touch that there was a dark sensing night light in the bathroom. Lady at front desk nice, and kept reminding me of my welcome cocktail, but I don't drink much, I did grab some hot water from the bar to make tea. Room had a small tv to relax and watch a movie on DirectTV. Breakfast is at 8am, made to order. Small bowl of fruit, Choice of coffee/tea/orange juice, fried/scrambled eggs and two sides like vegetables, fries, bacon, chorizo (sliced like pepperoni); or omelette with two sides in the omelette. Food did not take 40 minutes like another review I had read. Friendly fellow at the bar, he RAN to the door to greet other guests coming in for breakfast. read more

The People here are what really make this place a wonderful experience. Every single person was so pleasant and friendly. Chef Enrique was outgoing and personable, explaining his passion for cooking and talking with people. The food was all outstanding and Felicia and Dawn were extremely FUN Bar Tenders! This is closer to a B&B than a hotel in my opinion. This is a very quaint, historical place just a couple of blocks off of the busy highway with friendly staff. Had a bit of a musty smell, not surprising given its age, but was clean & comfy. We stayed 2 nights in 2 different rooms. Our first was right on the shared 2nd floor balcony which was nice. A decent continental breakfast was offered. There is a bar & restaurant right downstairs but didn't get a chance to visit them. Rates were good & well worth it! read more

I have never been more disgusted with a booking company in my many years of travel. I booked a hotel for a 4 night stay at a certain rate. I received a confirmation. Later, I received an email stating my credit card did not go through. This was very strange to me, as I know plenty of money was in the account. (Which I also verified with my bank). I attempted to call the hotel on several occasions without success. I finally got someone to answer the phone and they informed me that the price was wrong on the website. The actual price was $145 more a night since it was a NASCAR weekend, and would I pay that price? I informed them that I absolutely would not pay that price. I called Booking.com to get a resolution. They apologized and said that the hotel would make it right. Simranjit told me they would make it right with a comparable hotel at the same cost if the hotel didn't. This was an hour long phone call. An hour or so later, Simranjit called me back to say the hotel would offer me a much smaller room with a double bed or we could negotiate the room I booked. I said those weren't acceptable offers as there were 2 travelers. After a long debate, I asked to speak with his supervisor. Hussein G got on the phone and said there was nothing they could do because it was human error. Keep in mind that this hotel sells the room I booked at that price on most weekends. I told Hussein that it should be the booking company's responsibility to make this right. They did not. Both Simranjit and Hussein were very polite, but somebody else's error/greed should not cost me an extra $600. Hotel is Hotel Redland in Homestead, FL. Received another email saying they are going to charge me double for the 2 night stay. Called the hotel and they would not honor the confirmation email charge. Bad business. I can't say enough good things about this place! The food was excellent, but the absolutely best part was the welcoming nature of everyone we encountered. It is quaint, comfortable, and feels like home, only better! If you are looking for the Hilton, this is not your place. IF you want an experience that is not cookie-cutter, this historic 1904 inn is perfect. There were even kitties on the balcony/patio, we would definitely stay again! read more

I hate to write a bad review but our experience was just abyssmal. The main problem with our room at the Hotel Redland was the eye-watering levels of Febreeze. The hotel clerk initially said the smell was so strong because we arrived a couple of hours early and that opening the windows would get rid of the smell. After five hours, the smell was still so strong I could taste it in my throat. We'd tried to get a refund ($125/night) so we could move to another hotel but they said that all 10 rooms were fully booked and would only refund us half our money. That wasn't true. Only a couple of the rooms were occupied judging from the parking lot. So, we bit the bullet and spent the night on old uncomfortable beds in a smelly room with lots of street noise. The hotel is also in a sketchy part of town, across from a car mechanic and bus station, with lots of street people muttering down the sidewalk. The crashed supermarket cart on the sidewalk really said it all. The hotel is pretty understaffed too. No one was at the front desk when we arrived and the hotel was locked up when we got back from dinner at 7 p.m. We found a way in but, honestly, you'd be better off finding another place to rest your head. read more
