It is also 2 blocks from the County Courthouse so that was a plus. I was after midnight getting into town but they texted me a front door and room entry code and Wi-Fi instructions. It was extremely quiet, in fact I never saw another person and believe that I was the only person there or even on the entire block that night. Nice sitting room and comfortable bed, plenty of big fluffy clean towels and a great shower. I had no problem getting on the internet for my last minute early morning trial prep work and there was a fully stocked Keurig station in the hallway outside my room. Good place to relax and prep before heading to court. I only wish that I could have stayed another night to eat at Doe's Eat Place downstairs.

There are clean showers, water fountains, restrooms, vending and soda machines. There is a play area for children to burn off energy. Water related activities draw a lot of visitors and at peak dates or holidays, getting into the water is difficult and even impossible. Old Bridge Beach and Piney Grove Beach both offer picnic shelters and volleyball courts along with the restroom facilities, and showers. Overnight camping is available at two campgrounds, the Piney Grove Campground run by the Corps of Engineers and the Whippoorwill Campground run by the Bay Spring Marina. Piney Grove Campground offers 139 Class A campsites with water and electrical service as well as restrooms with shower facilities, a fish cleaning station, playground and fishing piers and an amphitheater. Fishing on Bay Springs Lake is very popular and productive. There are fishing tournaments throughout the year, with the exception of winter. There was a state record 6 lb 4 oz chain pickerel at Bay Springs Lake in 1986, and Scott Wood snagged a 4.66-pound saugeye here in 2000. It isn't unusual to catch 20-30 fish a day. We always did the 'catch and release' after we had enough to feed us and our friend.

For larger groups, the park also has three group camp cabins--each with 20 bunk beds and spacious bathrooms that include showers, toilets, and sinks. The park is full of history and adventure. Visitors can explore the Pioneer Cabin and its nearby waterfall, or cross the famous swinging bridge--a suspension bridge that stretches 25 feet over Bear Creek. We were in Red Bay recently having work done on our coach. We drove all around Red Bay (in 7…read moreminutes) looking for any changes there since last time we were out there. In doing so, we came across this little "campground" with 10 spaces, and full hook ups. It had 2 picnic tables, and a small podium stand "office." This is a completely self serve facility and is on the honor system. They are $20 a night, or $120 for a week stay there, and they have WATER ALL YEAR ROUND there. Tiffin Campground will actually shut off their water at the sites when it is that cold out, so, this is a major benefit to those staying there. It is a very quick jaunt down to the Tiffin Service Center from there, and very easy to get to from a big rig point of view. The "campground" does not have any amenities, however, serves it basic purpose of giving you a full hook up site to stay at - right downtown Red Bay.

So, off we drove to explore the Downtown RV Park. I can happily report, not being huge fans of spending days on end with entitled, overly-obsessed Tiffin owners comparing everything they've ever done and owned, we LOVE the Downtown RV Park. The sites are on level cement, from what looks to be an old building someone demolished. The hookups are easily accessible, and we can easily walk around town for some excitement. First and foremost, I ordered the burger cooked medium. It was cooked to exactly that. The burger was well proportioned (meat, toppings, and bread). The one big problem was that there are a lot of slimy things on the buger and it falls apart really easily. The cooked onions had a nice dusting of pepper that made the mess worth it. The fries were surprisingly good. I'm not a fan of sweat potatoes made into fries, but these were pretty good. The flaked salt gave a next textural touch to the fries that added to the experience.
