Sometimes I don't understand Yelpers. Lou S. calls Hotel Montecarlo a "wonderful hotel," yet rates it as two stars. Cosmic B. rants about the inconvenience of the Barcelona marathon when isn't it your own responsibility to plan your travel dates and logistics?
With that said, we had a great time staying at Hotel Montecarlo. It's conveniently located very close to both Liceu and Catalunya metro stations, walking distance to great food at La Boqueria and amazing shopping on the Passeig de Gracia. We actually pretty much walked everywhere including up the Passeig de Gracia up past Casa Batllo and La Pedrera to the Sagrada Familia (takes maybe 45 minutes).
The hotel itself is very modern and clean. Our room overlooked La Rambla, but with the double paned window we had no problem with noise (although we could hear a little bit of NYE revelry!). The only slight negative I had was the glass around the bathroom which meant you had to remember to close the sliding door of the bedroom area in addition to the actual bathroom door if you didn't want to flash anyone. Other than that everyone at the front desk was very nice and we were never "interrogated" when we asked for the key (they hold the key at the desk for you when you leave). There is also a Carrefour across the street for drinks and snacks.
Would definitely stay again for the super convenient location! read more
