I dig this place, but I am not convinced it is a 4-star hotel.
The hotel has two parts, a main house, and a garden area with rooms spread across several buildings. We spent two nights in room 19. The entire property is well designed and room 19 is especially nice as it is in its own building, about the size of a large garden shed with a large living area and a large marble bathroom. The room had a beach theme to it and with three windows let in a lot of nice natural light. But what is it really about? It's about the quality of sleep after long day bar hopping in Belgium. My wife liked the bed, but I found it to be low quality; I could feel the springs beneath me. The worst part is the pillow! An obviously over-used lumpy synthetic fiber pillow with peaks and valleys like a 13-year old's pimple-filled face. Yeah. Like that. Really uncomfortable. Get some feather pillows, man! That's really the one thing that drops this joint down to 3 stars,
The hotel has a good location, just a couple blocks from the center of town, for those of us who like action, but like to sleep away from it. The common areas are nicely designed. Coffee is available all day for when you need to recharge between bar runs. Or they have a bar. The complementary breakfast is very good with a wide selection of items, including fresh meats and cheeses, fruit, and eggs cooked-to-order. Wifi is free, as it should be, but sadly is not available away from the main house, so garden rooms do not have Internet access.
One thing I feel is important to mention. If you are afraid of spiders, don't take room 19. I killed a big spider in the middle of the night. However, I don't think this is a big deal or that the hotel is to blame. It is the beginning of spider season in Europe, this can't be avoided and does not signal a pest problem.
Another thing, it really isn't a full-service joint. It was a challenge to find someone to serve us some tea and a beer in the evening at the bar, a service they offer but is apparently rarely used. And there is no room service. These are not necessary, but nice to have the option.
We would stay here again, though, so it was a good place! read more
