Facebook and YELP have a lot to answer for. I found this out when arriving at this wonderful hotel. When we are in Bruges this, to us, is the only place to stay. However, arriving at reception the charming lady taking our booking, looked at me and said, 'you are the gentleman trying out our 400 beers! I remember you from Facebook'. Then, later in the Jazz Bar, Frankie the barman stating, 'I made sure we had some Lillet for your Vespers. I saw you were coming on Facebook so made sure we had enough'. Joking apart, wonderful people and it is good to know that some places do take time to read the positive, and negative, comments made. But let me tell you about this stay at the Navarra.
Reception is always smooth and so friendly. There is always a 'good morning' as we pass by on our way to breakfast and a cheery wave as we arrive back from a long day out.
Breakfast is a meal still worth a mention. Plenty to choose from. Stacks of fresh fruit and newly cut fruit salad. Cereals, fruit juices, cheese, cold meats etc etc. Also, a nice choice of hot breakfasts. Can't be beaten with the fantastic service of the ladies flitting around the room making sure all is 'up to scratch and filled'. Again, all done with a cherry smile. The staff throughout the hotel are great. My childhood memories of visiting my grandmother and aunt in Antwerp came to the fore with the taste of Ontbijtkoek (I think we called it peperkoek but no mind) and speculoos.
Our room was fantastic with everything we could need. Nice comfy bed, and quiet. Hairdryer and toiletries in the large bathroom. Tea/coffee making facilities, flat screen TV, safe etc etc. everything you could want and, if something was missing, a call to reception would sort that out. However, this has never happened on our visits. Always cleaned to a spotless condition and I love the eco friendly idea of the towel change. Why change towels every day???? Again, thank you to that lady working so hard on our floor. I never got to know her name but she was always so friendly.
The Jazz Bar.....can't forget the bar and Frankie. A legend in his own area. Ready for a joke he made the last part of the night go with a swing. Oh yes, his Vespers were perfect, Bond would have been impressed.
My partner used the pool and sauna on our last day as we both needed rejuvenation after our daily exploration of this great city. As she said, so clean like the rest of the hotel.
The Hotel is in a perfect position in Bruges. Central and only five minutes walk from the Market Square and its restaurants and bars.
As I said, our third stay and it won't be the last. The Navarra is the best in Bruges.
Heel erg bedankt vrienden. Hope that is correct as I have lost my Flemish from childhood. See you soon. read more
