Great location across the street from St. Bavo's and in the middle of everything you will want to see on a trip. If arriving by train in Gent-Sint-Pieters, walk outside to the left and hop on the red 1 line (€3) to the center of town.
My experience was different than prior reviewers. The hotel was totally clean. No smell. Looked very modern and sharp (unlike a few other places we have stayed at recently in similarly good locations). To me, the room actually seemed large (by European standards). Besides the obvious of a bed and TV, there were some shelves, a coat closet, seat, and table. This would be ideal for backpackers looking to splurge and treat themselves, small families or folks with large suitcases, or a business trip where you need a table and chair to do a little work at night in the room.
I don't have any big complaints but here are the minor inconveniences...The toilet was a little cramped behind the shower and the hotel restaurant's kitchen didn't have any food (but it did have beer). The breakfast was a little steep, too, at €15.
I am not quite sure why the prior negative reviews. Maybe the hotel did a major revamp, redecoration, or change in staff/management. Everything seemed great to me and the front desk was very friendly and helpful! I honestly did not have anything bad to say about this hotel and would stay again without hesitation if I return. read more
