My first international review! Yay! So happy that it's for a wonderful hotel.
We were staying in Lake Como and decided to take a trip up to Switzerland for a few days. Took a train and arrived in Zurich, right in the heart of this cute Christmas mall they had going on. Lots of cheese and sausage and pickled food items to go around! After getting our shopping on and having some lunch, we made our way to the hotel (which happened to be my first time staying in an European hotel). Went up to the front desk, tried to check in, but we were about three hours early. The receptionist (who spoke German, French, and English with ease!) locked our luggage away in the staff lounge and we went back out for some more shopping
There was a H&M and a Starbucks on every corner! I was in heaven! Two beers, some spiced wine, and a pack of fried potatoes with cheese and pickles, we were ready to check in and I was ready for a nap! Opened the door to the room and giggled. I was really taken aback by how minimalist it was, but welcomed it anyway. I'm used to having so much going on in a room to make it feel like I never left home, but this was simple. Fresh white linen, a television, a desk, and a clean shower. All you need in, probably, the size of your bedroom as a kid. And the beds were super comfy~
We stayed around Christmas time and it was cold, but since the room was small it heated up quickly. As another Yelper stated, you either get the view of the old street or the busy street. Well, we got the busy street and there was some construction going on. It didn't really bother us. We never saw the cleaning staff since we only stayed a day. Honestly, one of the quietest and most relaxing hotels I've ever visited. I use this one as a control for comparing cleanliness. No other has matched or even come close to this level.
The breakfast was nice, too. Never have I ever had a cheese platter in the morning. Cheese, cereal, and orange juice. Once we got our fill, it was off to Bern and the next hotel. Whenever I'm back in Zurich again (and I hope very soon), I'm staying at Hotel Marta no matter what. read more
