I can't rate the hotel as all I did was have dinner, but the dinner was really good, this place has a great vibe, great staff and awesome traditional German food. Everything we ordered was amazing and the drinks were perfect as well. Has an awesome story and nice theme too it, right on the water and located central to the city center. Definitely recommend.

Schweinhaxe has very crispy outlayer and juicy meat inside.

Very classical traditional german cuisine. warm welcome. near old bridge of Heidelberg.

Just got into Heidelberg and went here for dinner. Great authentic German food. We got the Hackteufel's sauerkraut orgy (felt a little strange saying it) and the meat stuffed ravioli (kind of like a lasagna) ... both were absolutely amazing. Great location to sit outside if weather cooperates.

Hotel Room - 5 Service - 5 View - 5 Food - 5 Breakfast - 5 Dinner - 10 I truly enjoyed my stay at this hotel... The staff is incredible and the food is AMAZING... Try the Potato soup... It was incredible and great for a cold day. I also had the Goose... Incredible dinner for the price... The chef should receive an award to turn out great meals in such a small kitchen. I look forward to going back.

Potato soup (with meat components). Delish!

We had a great stay here. It was our first time to vacation in Germany and it was recommend we visit during Christmas to see the Christmas markets. We stayed 7 nights here and got upgraded to the suite however we didn't realize this till our departure since we had not seen any of the other rooms. They still use an actual key to lock and unlock the rooms so don't loose them. The only thing that wasn't most pleasant were the beds....however I feel like this is a common thing in Europe or just the places we say. Sleep-able just not the best. There is a restaurant attached and it was so yummy. The best potato soup in town I think!! A yummy breakfast is served daily to guests. They put your name on a table so it is ready when you come. We missed breakfast a few days with the time difference and I really felt like they expect guests to be at breakfast. We also had dinner here and it was great!!

    schnitzel. meh. kind of bland

I mean, well, this place is ok. If you are a tourist or don't know good german food well then this place works but it's really just "meh". Pricey considering the food quality but it's decent, I guess. Their schnitzel wasn't very good - I'd avoid it - it was very bland and the meat was a little chewy but it was edible. I gave it two stars because the desserts were very good. I had the chocolate ice cream and eierlikor (egg liquor) which was delicious. Person next to me had apfelstrudel and it was very good especially with the johannisbeer (red currants). It's a tourist place so it delivers what's expected. Grab a drink, coffee, or dessert... if you have to.

We LOVED Hackteufel! Getting there initially was a little confusing because it's also a restaurant (which has awesome food and customer service) and you need to walk past it to get to the hotel reservation area. The hotel/restaurant is very cute and traditional. Not some glamorous celebrity establishment, but absolutely perfect for diving into the culture and town. The customer service was amazing! So sweet, accommodating and speedy with requests. It's nice that there's only a few rooms too so it's not a busy/loud hotel. The location couldn't be any better. 2-15 minute walk to pretty much anything you want to do. It's in the heart of Heidelberg. There's no central AC but they do provide a fan and the windows open to different points to get outside air. We came in September so it was perfect weather especially at night. If you want to go to bed early it may be a little loud from the street but you'll be so tired from your adventures that you'll sleep through it easily.

    Main dish and beer.

The beer is excellent. The main dish is a little bit salty. The service is good. Will be here again and try other food.

Delicious food, but the "local cheese" was unpleasantly bitter. The dining room stank of mothballs, which the server said was not normal.

The weather was beautiful for sitting outside. I wish I had gotten our server's name because he was outstanding. Friendly, witty, and willing to help navigate the menu - he made our dining experience even better. We started with a couple of local wines that were amazing - a red and a rosé. Some bread and butter came to our table with our escargot starter and side salad. The bread and starter were delicious. Our snails were hot and garlicky with plenty of juice to sop up. The side salad was also very tasty and fresh. For our mains I went with the Schnitzelbank Platter and my lady went with the Pepper Schnitzel. My platter came with a local delicacy called saumagen, as well as roasted pork, sausage, roasted potatoes, and sauerkraut. The saumagen was the highlight for me. Our server was also excited we got it. It is a local offering consisting of various meats and other items wrapped up in a stomach and served as a loaf-style meat. The pepper schnitzel was also outstanding - the sauce was indeed peppery, but it didn't smother the schnitzel, which was breaded nicely and not dry, as some schnitzels can be. And after all that food, still, an apple strudel. This was so worth it. I don't even like sweets in the USA, but in Europe, they are something else. This was something else. We had a lot of great meals on our trip, but this was probably the best. Not just for the food, but for the overall experience, it's easy to see why this is the shining star in Heidelberg.

The food was outstanding authentic German cuisine with a twist. The garlic Schnitzel is truly made for garlic lovers like me! The mushroom schnitzel had a flavor explosion when it hits your pallet. I've…read morebeen here alone, on dates, with colleagues and even with my parents - all were equally impressed by the wine, the food and the ambiance. The wines by the glass are fantastic - my favourite is the Montepulciano - and they've a full selection in bottles. It's a wine bar so maybe that's expected; where they really excel is with the food. When ordering a main course, you're first treated to a flavourful amuse bouche. The steaks are top-notch, and the other mains (I've tried most of them) are large (sometimes too large), scrumptious and well-presented. The starters really stand out here too. My favourite is the Antipasto Italiano (great for sharing), while the salads are excellent too. Another favourite is the great-value, brine-cured mountain of Italian olives for €5.50. On ordering food you'll also be served freshly baked Italian bread, high quality olive oil with a slightly sharp bite, and sea salt. This is such a tasty combination that I find it hard to resist filling up on oil-dipped bread before the food even arrives! Finally, I love the friendly staff, who recognise and greet me every time, even though I live thousands on a different continent. Service is attentive and friendly by European standards; it's not the US so don't expect to be annoyed every 2 minutes by someone sniffing for tips and filling your water glass and asking how everything is. This restaurant is open late and takes credit cards - perfect for the jetlagged international traveller. They're located in Weststadt, right beside most of Heidelberg's international hotels. So you've no excuse not to stop by when in town.
