Another review mentioned the very slippery floors surrounding the pool - they are right. The fireplace in our room didn't work, the windows were indeed gross, and the mirrors clearly hadn't been cleaned. Additionally we had inconsiderate and loud neighbors early in the morning, but that's not the hotels fault. They kept opening and slamming the door for some reason. Overall we had a fine time, the bed and king suite jacuzzi were nice, and we'd come here again if ever needed.

My room was clean and comfortable and a little nicer than I expected for $105. Free breakfast was lovely with fresh food and reasonable variety. Check out was efficient and the staff was friendly. There was plenty of parking and it was really easy to get to from the freeway and it was easy to get back on the road. I anticipate once my kid starts school I'll be making this trip a few times a year and I'll try to make sure I always stay here. I've been avoiding Wyndham for several years after a really horrible experience in Kansas City, but this place made me glad I reconsidered my total Wyndham ban.

But this experience from start to finish was absolutely horrible. From the very beginning trying to book over the phone they were rude and mumbled on the phone. I asked for a confirmation, and it was a total pain to get that sent over. I originally booked 2 queen beds. I get a call from the hotel the day we are supposed to arrive and they want to move us to a king bed instead. Saying "the shower in the 2 bed was broken" Frustrated but out of options I accepted. I also confirmed with staff on multiple occasions that because we're coming from out of state we will be there in the AM hours sometime after 2. They said it was no problem When we arrived at 3:30am they told us we were late. And started being extremely rude. He came out of his back room in his underwear to check us in. I was appalled. The first 2 keys they gave us didn't work. The 3rd also didn't and finally the 4th did. Our room stunk to high heavens. The pillow cases looked like they had been slept on. The walls and microwave were dirty. And it was just an awful experience from start to finish. Don't waste your time or money. For the prices we paid we should have been met with a friendly staff, a clean, nice smelling room. And the beds we originally booked. At this point I'm not even sure you can call this a hotel. Maybe a disgrace is a better word.

I think my mattress could stand to be replaced, but I still got a great night's sleep. It was quiet and peaceful. Good location. And the staff was amazing, so friendly!! I think probably some of the nicest people I've ever met.

Barbara, the owner, delighted us with blackberry muffins with the berries from her garden. Iowa-grown sweet hickory bacon and an egg and cheese tart. Barbara has extensive knowledge of local history, suggesting some of the unique sites in the local area to see like the Danish windmill and museum in Elkhorn, the "little mermaid" statue and fountains in Kimballton, replica of the one in Denmark, and the antique mecca in Walnut, IA. We share a love of gardens and Barbara did not disappoint. Her tour of her lush trees and plants was a highlight of the trip as was the intricate woodwork throughout the mansion.

I was able to check in late with no issues. Barbara was kind enough to offer me directions to her B&B. Upon my arrival, the check-in went smoothly. The room I stayed in has a window A/C unit, & was cool. Barbara has a collection of menus from various restaurants around town. Several restaurants are within walking distance from the mansion. The Fireside Room is very spacious. The bed was comfortable. During my entire stay, it was very quiet, which I liked. Barbara arranged breakfast for me the following morning. Juice, water, coffee, thick cut & crispy bacon, an apple streusel muffin, & eggs with tomatoes & herbs. Everything was delicious! I enjoyed my stay at the bed & breakfast. The mansion has a lot of charm, & the garden is absolutely beautiful. Barbara is a gracious host, & I hope to stay at the mansion again!
