The downtown area of Winterset is cute, and two grocery stores are within a mile of the hotel.

I originally booked 2 queen beds. I get a call from the hotel the day we are supposed to arrive and they want to move us to a king bed instead. Saying "the shower in the 2 bed was broken" Frustrated but out of options I accepted. I also confirmed with staff on multiple occasions that because we're coming from out of state we will be there in the AM hours sometime after 2. They said it was no problem When we arrived at 3:30am they told us we were late. And started being extremely rude. He came out of his back room in his underwear to check us in. I was appalled. The first 2 keys they gave us didn't work. The 3rd also didn't and finally the 4th did. Our room stunk to high heavens. The pillow cases looked like they had been slept on. The walls and microwave were dirty. And it was just an awful experience from start to finish. Don't waste your time or money. For the prices we paid we should have been met with a friendly staff, a clean, nice smelling room. And the beds we originally booked. At this point I'm not even sure you can call this a hotel. Maybe a disgrace is a better word.

Should work great if I had a back problem. Here is where the PR person for Super 8 can go to work and call it 'King Size Support'. Keep in mind it's not big dollars for this stay, so there's no pool, no hot tub and the continental breakfast consists of bananas, yogurt cups and tangerines. I'm 6'3 230 pounds, my wife 5'0 125 lbs, things get a little tight in smaller beds, but by no means would the bed size prevent anything less than 5 stars for The Corn Crib! I have called the reservation line & they told me that I "should" get an email in 48 hours but I AM TIRED. No sleep since 4:30 am. The management was no help at each step. The only thing they helped me with was the dirty towels. This hotel is not even full. The "manager" or blond haired lady told me to find my own customer service online. No compassion for someone who is terribly tired and underserved. We spent over $300 staying here - and need some customer service. Is there any or is this it? My final review - Stay in Pella. It is not that much further & you will get way better service. And...don't fall for any deals made on the website - each site is privately owned & refuses to participate. Caveat Emptor
