This was our home base for the first few days of our journey to mostly-Portugal, but with a stop in Madrid, in January - and seemingly the only reasonably priced hotel in Madrid that week, so I was a little nervous if there was anything wrong with it. Well, as far as the hotel *itself*, there wasn't really - it felt like an entirely modern and fairly nice, albeit no-frills hotel (I don't need any frills in my hotel). Checkin and checkout were quick and painless, everything was clean, everything worked great... room had enough space, and an included minifridge including free bottles of water. Water got hot in the bathroom quickly. Bed was a *tiny* bit harder than I like, but comfortable enough to sleep on. And the location was great - busses going multiple different directions stopped almost right outside the hotel all the time, and while it could've been a *few* minutes closer to the heart of downtown by foot, things were still all pretty conveniently walkable that we wanted to walk to.
The one major downside, at least of the room we got, and it's a two-parter - when the window is closed, the room is very quiet, as the window and walls are highly noise-proofed, which is great, when you want the window closed. It's also very insulated against the cold, which I assume a lot of people would appreciate, given when we were there, it did get fairly cold at night. However, in a heavily insulated room with no outside air, to us, it got quite warm at night, but there didn't appear to be any way to get cold, or even just not *heated*, air through the ventilation system. With the window *open*, you got great room ventilation. At least where we were, you also got a lot of noise from a loud bar across the street until quite late into the night/morning. It's possible we could've gotten a different, quieter room though. (If we were ever back in Madrid, I would definitely consider staying here again if it were still as reasonably priced, and then inquiring about that.) read more
