These bites were all over my ankles, arms, back...awful. I checked out two days ago and I'm still itching.

I wanted to love this place. It's beautiful, staff was lovely. But I got massacred by bed bugs in my room (517).

I like hotels that feel like home. The Hotel Estherea, like my favorite place to stay in New York the Bowery, has a comfortable air to it. They pay attention to the details. It's small and quaint, cozy even. The communal spaces are elegantly done. It doesn't have that new look everyone is doing. It has layers and color and fancy details. There is candy and cats. We had a noise complaint but it was made right by compensation. Had it not been for that I'd say this boutique hotel is a 5 star experience for the price. I'd suggest too a full length mirror in the rooms. Our didn't have one but all rooms at Estherea are different.

Wonderful small hotel within walking distance of major sites. Loved staying here. Every room is different.

Good lord... what a treasure of hotel. The folks who work here are incredibly helpful, the room are beautiful and Maria's Bar is fantastic. This hotel delivers on all fronts. I need to mention that Maria's Bar is fantastic. The bartender put a strawberry twist on my daiquiri and it changed daiquiris for me for life. We will absolutely be staying here again.

Charming and unique hotel in a perfect location, not far from all the "action" yet also quiet enough to feel like you've gotten away from it all. Admittedly our stay began on a bit of an off note--arriving with a group of 25 or so, our particular room was one of two not yet ready (and others had a mix-up where they were given a king instead of two doubles, and had to switch around with another guest to get what they needed.) Our tour organizer was having some rather heated words with the desk staff to get it all sorted out. We came back a couple hours later, was told our room was ready and our luggage up there--but it wasn't. I called down for our luggage, waited, and after twenty minutes or so had to go back down to the desk to see our luggage still sitting there in the back office while staff was sitting around chatting. With a meeting I had to get ready for in less than a half hour, that was a bit aggravating. But after those first day hassles every thing else went smoothly. Our room was quite charming, not on the canal but with a little balcony perfect for people-watching. I appreciated the spacious bathroom with a whirlpool tub and a separate shower stall, and the blue and white decor of the room really was lovely. The entire hotel is done up in outrageous style with new things to discover in every corner and display. Coffee, water, and treats were available throughout the day to drink or nibble on, and the breakfast buffet was very well stocked and varied, too. Would I come back to stay here again? Absolutely! We were able to walk to pretty much everything we wanted to see or do and I loved the quiet charm of it all. Definitely would recommend to anyone looking for a unique experience in the city.

Decent price, very clean and cozy quaint rooms, excellent library, lounge and lobby, excellent little bar, free oliy-ball snacks with coffee all day long whenever you want, very good breakfast buffet, really just an excellent boutique hotel. Takes up three houses on the Singel canal, great location going further into or out of the canal rings. Walkable to everything, but also has bikes and a scooter to rent. Only drawbacks were water pressure and window treatments.

The aerobic equipment at the gym downstairs. Nothing fancy, but have the basics and perhaps more than expected at a boutique hotel

We had a nice 3-night stay. The trip started inauspiciously, with the unhelpful jackholes from the airport and train stations regarding directions towards here. In the end, the hotel recommendation of taking the train to Amsterdam Centraal then walking 15-20 minutes, even dragging two 45lb luggages at 10:30pm, was probably the easiest as well as the cheapest way to get here. It is a charming boutique hotel, with complimentary coffee and water downstairs at all times. It is very centrally located for a lot of attractions, including various museums (Rijksmuseum, Anne Frank), landmarks (National Monument, red-light district), and not to mention the plethora of food choices. We walked everywhere once we settled in, and I bought cheap and delicious breakfast from the bakery Egstorf right around the corner on the happening street Spuistraat every morning. the only thing I had to remotely worry about were the speeding bicycles, which were everywhere in the city. The rooms were basic but nice. Even with the upgrade to a "family size" room, the bathroom was surprisingly small. I felt like an NBAer adjusting the shower head, which was weird but a great boost for my ego. There is even a basic gym, which I did not expect and didn't have time to use, but it had all the elements for a great workout. The biggest downer were the noises in the morning from the trash trucks and other traffic on Spuistraat, and it was unsettling for us the first two days, especially as we were adjusting to the jet lag. In the end, I am happy to recommend this fine establishment. Hope other tourists have a similarly positive experience here.

I love this place. Had a deluxe canal room. Was a good size, gorgeous decor and nice bathroom. Looking at the room map on the back of the door it looks like most of the rooms are of similar size, just different views. The flowers I pre arranged with the hotel were in the room upon arrival and very nice. Charming bar and good room service. All personal were friendly efficient and seemed genuinely happy. Will definitely return on my next visit.

Cute hotel! Near everything. Friendly staff. If you're used spacious rooms, which we did not have in our boutique hotel in France, then you would love love this hotel. Our room was spacious, had heated bathroom floors, jacuzzi, very nice! I think we were upgraded to a suite. Very clean, had liquid soap, bar soap, shampoo AND CONDITIONER (rare at most hotels), and blow dryer. Even nicer than most American hotels actually. Most importantly they had AC. We had free wifi. We were in room 100. Do u need to spend $210/ night on a hotel? No. But is it worth it? Yes!!! It's by a canal.

All I can say is WOWZA! From the front, this hotel is unassuming and no different from the other old Dutch buildings on Singel, but once you walk in you are transported to a 5 star hotel. The bar is a magical pink room with pink crystal chandeliers, pink chairs, pink glasses, pink wallpaper, pink cherry blossoms, SO pretty! They also have a library, restaurant and lobby, all equally beautifully decorated. The room was small, but big enough for the two of us, and very beautiful. Decorated in all dark blue and gold, it looked like Marie Antoinette would sleep there. A 4 poster bed, large bathroom with his and her sinks, a shower and a jacuzzi. The room also had a small balcony which you could stand out on if you aren't afraid of small places or heights. The room service was CHEAP and yummy! There is no room service or service charge, we got a BLT 5 euro, a goat cheese/honey/walnut sandwich 6 euro, a glass of wine 4 euro and a soda for 2 euro, and it was all tasty and fresh! You DO have to leave your key at the front desk every time you leave, but it's no big deal and they are there 24/7. It was a great experience and I can not wait to return! Also, it was VERY centrally located! We easily walked to Dam Square, Waterloo market, several coffee shops and many restaurants! We only took cabs to and from the airport.

As soon as my cab stopped in front, a man immediately came down the stairs to help me with my bag and escort me to the check in area. They asked if I wanted anything to drink and I said of course champagne! They gave me two! I checked in with Lisa who was amazing! She had me pick out a scent for my room. What? I didn't know that existed! Super fun! My room wasn't ready because I had booked late even though it was 3pm but I didn't mind waiting, especially when they gave me that 2nd glass of champagne. When I got my room, Lisa and Fae escorted me to the room to make sure I liked it and it was beautiful. I loved how the light came into the bathroom. On that note the bathtub was so nice I almost fell asleep in it! You receive welcome chocolates in the shape of Amsterdam shoes which were so cute and delicious! I ordered room service as the bar only served snacks and did not want to go to the restaurant by myself as it was really open. I got the Waldorf Astoria Burger which was amazing and so good! I'd go back to this hotel just for that burger itself. The next day I also had the breakfast and was able to get the whole tray of assortments and all the juices and coffee I wanted PLUS another dish! All complimentary with my Hilton Diamond status. I ordered the French toast and everything was delicious! Obviously I couldn't eat it all but was able to take some left to the room for later. I also had a spa appointment while here. Massage was great and the masseuse mentioned to see a physical therapist to help my lower back pain that I was complaining about as she said it was coming from my glutes, legs, knees. I've seen a couple of masseuses in the last two years in the states and one in Canada and NONE had ever even mentioned that that could help. I love this! Very professional staff. The spa also very serene with sauna, jacuzzi, and pool. They have a door to the garden which I'm assuming is beautiful in summer but I was here in February so it was freezing! When I checked out it was with Lisa again and she was great as usual and the guys helped me with my bags again when my uber came. They let me sit in the other room and said they'd let me know when it was here. Very nice. I did not want to leave. Haha!

You Get What You Pay For…read more I bartended for Hard Rock Cafe for 12 years. I love rock and roll, so when I saw this hotel it definitely jumped out at me. I will list the positives first since there are not that many: 1. The dayshift employee (cannot remember his name) was a very nice man. He recommended great vegan restaurants and was super cool. We actually ate at his recommendations for the remainder of our stay. He booked our taxi for us the night before our departure and was very hospitable. 2. The hotel lobby is set up like a bar/lounge with a pool table and it's cozy. 3. I liked the use of musical instruments such as a drum stool for a chair in the room and the drum light fixtures in the room. It adds to the theme of the hotel. 4. It was walking distance to a lot of cool places. Negatives: 1. Amsterdam is an old city with cute old buildings. I get it. We stayed at another hotel which was also an old building (and had a very slow elevator; but still had an elevator). This hotel had nearly 90-degree stairs to carry 50 lb. luggage up four flights of stairs (we called them ladders). I could not imagine anyone with a disability or elderly ever staying there for their safety. Literally, the stairs were about 4 inches wide. I slipped on them. sober. 2. The clients mostly consisted of younger hipsters that we could hear stumbling in at night after drinks and the walls are paper thin. We even heard someone fart in the next room. 3. To drown out the noise of the other clients, my partner and I used a rain app on our smartphone so that we could get some sleep (let me add that it was currently pouring outside). We get a loud knock on our door, waking us at two o'clock in the morning by the nightshift employee, telling us to turn the rain sound down. This woke us up and we were literally trying to book a room at two o'clock in the morning at a different hotel due to his unprofessionalism. It's like, how about telling the clients that are actually making the noise to be more quiet? If you are a young and do not mind the paper-thin walls and the ladder stairs, the disgruntled night shift employee that patrols the halls for noise, and have minimal luggage, then I would recommend this place for the location. Otherwise, stay somewhere else.
