Compared to the US, we were pleasantly surprised how inexpensive drinks were at a music venue/club. We came for Techno Tuesday and it was a vibe. A smaller crowd probably but we didn't have to wait outside or pay any cover. We went around midnight. Around 3AM there was a line outside (Euros party late). The upstairs has like riser seating throughout and the downstairs is one big dance floor. The bathrooms were a little bit of a walk (for the good ones). Overall, we had a good time here! read more

Recently went an Amsterdam Rapido Event here and was very impressed! 1. Fantastic acoustics 2. Digital locker system that lets you unlock any time you need it I don't know if there is always enough lockers for everyone, but if you can get one it's awesome. They also have a separate wardrobe / clothed check if you don't get a locker. 3. Free water - not sure if this is normal but glasses of tap water were free and that makes a huge difference. I write this review on the 2-year anniversary of my trip to Amsterdam during the Amsterdam Dance Event... De Melkweg was the venue for the Monstercat event that featured DJs such as Pegboard Nerds, NGHTMRE, Seven Lions, and Delta Heavy. It was a brisk and rainy night when my boyfriend and I got here but that wasn't going to stop us from enjoying our night. Thankfully, since the concert technically started about an hour or so before we got there, it was virtually no wait to get in at all. This was great because we did not want to wait in the rain much longer. The venue has a main hall with a balcony and can lend you a pretty sweet view of the stage. The best part about this place? FREE WIFI! For travelers like us, this is such a godsend. I mean, who wouldn't love getting free WiFi during the show so you can post on your social media? If that isn't enough to tide you in, the bar also offers F R E E water! Thank you! Seriously, I cannot express how such a commodity can be so helpful during a hot and sweaty show. They of course serve more than just that but I didn't feel like partaking that evening. Overall, loved my experience and would definitely make my way back here for the next one! Free Techno Tuesday nights? Hell yes! Definitely a cool spot in Amsterdam if you like EuroTrance and EDM! We heard that it was free.99 so why not? The club is basically open from 11-6am. I don't how the people do it here, but apparently they go hard until 6am. Freakin' wild. It was a quick body check to make sure you aren't bringing in any weapons. Since the drinking age is 18, you only need wristbands if you look 18 or so. Drinks are a lot cheaper than what I'm used to in the Bay. There's a main floor and some room upstairs. We stayed for a little bit and when we were leaving, the line got super long. Definitely worth a visit, especially on Tuesdays! read more

Melkweg is one of the larger clubs in Amstedam, and while the events will vary, I really enjoy the set up, the friendly bar staff, and sound system. Housed in a former milk factory, Melkweg has an industrial feel. Like other clubs, there are lockers right up front and there are two large rooms, which allows for multiple events. Bar staff in both rooms were friendly and efficient, and the club has a friendly vibe. Clubbing is a must while in Amsterdam, and Melkweg hits the spot. read more

I will say this is a nice club space wise. i like how there is no form of elitism present because there is no skip line, no vip sections, bottle purchases, things like that. it's an 18 and up club. we were told this was the place to come for hip hop/r&b. it was only 12.50 euros to get in and coat check is like 2 euros. Drink prices are not bad either. The music though.......I really expected to hear more current rap/r&b/hip hop songs. De Melkweg is an amazing place to see a show. We saw Welshly Arms in a small room with amazing sound and a great atmosphere. Unlike shows in the US, fans in Amsterdam are there for the music, and not to take pictures and videos with their phones. I saw very few people take pictures and videos because they were too busy enjoying the music and the moment. It was so refreshing. They had a nice bar setup with reasonably priced beer. read more

After checking out some smaller lounges this place was our last option to salvage the night. Ticket price was 15 euros not bad once inside u can check your coat, get a locker for your stuff should u want too big area, great concept w the lockers, after this we headed inside, the night's event was for hip hop music not bad. Drinks I stuck to beer can't go wrong, my friend tried some jameson & ginger ale not good it was basically soda. as for the venue nice big open space pretty cool knowing that this building used to be some sort of milk factory pretty wild how they turned that around, good lay out with plenty of space to dance or just chill & enjoy the music. DJ was a lady very nice... & she killed it to begin with good music playing, nice vibe in this place we had a good time. read more

So many awesome bands and dj's have graced its walls- it is like CBGB or Ronnie Scott's meets a Disneyland! Here you'll catch some great bands and dj's from all over doing what they do best in a chill and friendly venue. There are two levels with two stages. Each level has a bar as well for those who want to chat and have a drink or enjoy a toke. Spent 15 Euros yo get in the door on a Saturday night. We decided to go to the Hip Hop and R&B side. At first there were not that many people there around midnight then around 130am the place got packed. The drink prices were fairly priced. The music on the other hand was terrible. I have never even heard any of those songs so we just couldn't get into the dancing mood. We kept waiting for the dj to play something upbeat and dance worthy but we lost hope and left. Both a venue and a club, I went on a club night. Unlike some more pretentious spots in the area, my friend and I had no time getting in. We bought tickets around 12:00 and checked out the many bars in Leidseplein as the dancing and clubbing did not really begin until 1:00-1:30. Inside, there are two floors. One with more modern dance and pop music and the upstairs with hip hop. To take a break from dancing, there a well ventilated, high ceiling, smoking room. Fantastic venue. Open dance floor lets you get right up with your favorite (and top!) performers. Saw Dispatch and Major Lazer here plus a few smaller names and couldn't have been better. Great opening acts too. The shows all start on time which was a huge surprise, so get there early! But also stay on after because they usually host after parties with DJs when the concert finishes. Came here on Saturday night (Encore), they were playing hip hop so I automatically was gonna have a good time. But not just reg hip hop I mean throwbacks, 90's and ofcourse Drake, the DJ was amazing. Place got packed later on. Drinks were pretty cheap compared to other places around here which was a plus, but you do pay around 20ish euro cover. The Melkweg is great! It is one of the best places in Amsterdam for going to gigs, or even clubbing (since there are also dance nights, weekly!). A lot of smaller and/or alternative bands play here so the public is a lot of students and hipsters. The place is getting pretty big as well and they have several stages, of which I like the smaller one the best. The bar has quite a lot of choice and there also is a drink menu on the wall, which I always find very handy. The toilets are big and clean. It's just a great place for a night out! read more

Easily my favorite part of my trip to Amsterdam, Melkweg is a must-visit for all of the music lovers out there. While you have to get there VERY early for the EDM side of the club, my friend and I walked up to the club at midnight and got right into the alternative rock concert. The staff was very friendly and made sure we felt at home in the club even though we were out of towners. We were able to catch a local rock band and then a 90's music club night (yeah I don't think it gets better than that). Drinks are affordable and the people who visit are great. There is also a back lounge area and an upstairs bar if you need a break from dancing. Highly recommend making a stop here when you are in town! read more

I came here to see a band play while on vacation and had an excellent experience. You have to have a Melkweg membership for entry, which can easily be purchased online via ticketmaster.ne prior to your show. The membership was inexpensive, especially considering that my actual tickets were super reasonable! I bought two for the price of what one at an equal show in the states would have cost. I walked here in chilly fall weather with only a tshirt on, but could have worn a sweater or jacket since there was a cheap coat check available - wish I'd known earlier! The line to get in went fast and coat check seemed equally quick. The crowd was really awesome with locals and tourists alike. There was a good sized GA area on the floor, with stairs on the edge (if you wanted to stand to the side in order to see over everyone's heads), and a second floor balcony that wraps around the whole thing. I definitely suggest checking out their event schedule to see if there's anything you'd like to attend here while in the area! read more

The line was chill, the bouncers were very frank when turning some of the dudes away ("We're way too full of men right now, sorry."); the coat check was chill, just 1.50 euros, and right in front of the entrance; the club-goers were chill, they seemed to be people who genuinely enjoyed the music and loved to dance. By far my favourite concert location in Amsterdam. They have a nice mix of established artists and new talent, for a very reasonable price.

I would give this venue zero stars if I could. My friends and I purchased tickets and monthly memberships (required to attend any concert) to a show here that ended up getting cancelled (Walk the Moon- Nov 2015). It took me a lot of emailing the venue and ticketmaster to get refunded, which didn't happen until 3 months later. And they refused to refund us the full amount saying that they had to pay service charges, etc. so we ended up getting ripped off about $20 for a show we never even saw. Beware when you purchase tickets to shows here that if they get cancelled, you will not get a full refund and it will take a lot of effort on your part to get any of your money back. To top it off, their customer service department is not helpful and I was told a manager would contact me and that never happened. I will NEVER buy tickets to an event at this venue again and I will be sure to let everyone I know what happened to us so they don't either. read more
