The hotel itself is very well maintained and historic. The front desk gentlemen was super nice and extremely helpful. We were glad the restaurant was in the hotel bc it was the only think open in town. The beds are very comfortable and they have a little fenced area for the dogs to play and use the restroom. read more

Stunning. Simply stunning! Rooms are fabulous robes included with a typical room, TV, bathtubs, breakfast, in room coffee. Internet. Free parking. Downtown location. Pet run yard. No restrictions on dogs other than that they are well behaved. Fee applies. We are very impressed. Suutes are really over the top. SO comfy. SO clean. SO carefully executed. True hospitality, European standards for linen, beverages, dining hall. read more

I hesitated at the rate, but found the experience to be well worth the price. This is a beautifully renovated hotel right in the center of an amazing Early American historic district. Rooms are outfitted with plush and comfortable bedding. Our room had a nice sitting area included, but there was also cozy common area with books and plush furnishings. My two small dogs were welcomed and a nice fenced yard is just outside. It's a nice place to share with someone who likes history. read more

Nice place. Manager is very nice and very service oriented. Quiet and relaxing. It's worth the money to get a little bigger room ("premium"). The drive between Shaniko and Condon is beautiful, as is the drive from Condon to Biggs Junction. One minor heads up- the restaurant and bar are closed Sunday nights as is just about everything else in Condon that one night. Best to take dinner with you. There's a grocery store in Fossil, OR but they close at 5 pm on Sundays. There's a small library area in the hotel which is a nice place to read. The lamps in the rooms themselves aren't great for reading, not really bright reading lamps. In general, I highly recommend this place. read more

Several reservation sites make reference to an onsite restaurant and bar. Upon arrival we were looking forward to a glass of wine and a meal. The restaurant has been closed for at least two years (not Covid related) and the bar is only open Friday and Saturday. We arrived at 5 p.m. and the only dinner option was a drive-in that closed at 6 p.m. There are no restaurants in Condon. The hotel is lovely! I hope they reopen the restaurant someday. If the restaurant were open I would make a return trip. read more

There is only one hotel in Condon and this is it. I was pleasantly surprised that they didn't choose to to take advantage of the lack of competition by having an unkempt Hotel. Staff were gracious, friendly and extremely welcoming. Each floor has its own sitting area with games, books, a fireplace and small coffee counter (with a kuerig for teas and coffees) available any time. It's very cozy and welcoming. I had the advantage of visiting in December and loved all the classic decorations. The decor is outdated but charming in its own way. They have a cute restaurant in the lobby but it isn't open on certain days and doesn't open for a sit down breakfast until 11 am (which is check out so I wasn't able to try it out). This was disappointing because the local options for food are MINIMAL. So, bring snacks for your room if you're a snacker. Cause after 7 pm you've got zero options. There is a continental breakfast that staff put out by 7:30 in the morning. While it provides options, It is all cold items (well, you can mix a packet of oatmeal with hot water or make toast but that's it for warm). I'm guessing they do this because they have very few rooms and even fewer guests at any given time and hot food would probably be a waste. I had a pleasant stay all in all. My only complaints would be the floors creak badly! I felt horrible every time I had to get up to use the bathroom and knew when other guests were doing the same. And the price. It's fairly spendy, with rates on par with other more urban touristy places which was surprising. But again, if you're the only game in town and the only one within about a 50 mile radius (that's not a BnB with shared bathrooms) you can do that. Worth a stay if you happen to be in need of a quaint, country place. Is stay again for sure! read more

What a wonderful stay! The bedroom was clean and bright, absolutely loved the AVEDA toiletries and coffee station with great coffee and a selection of tea. Breakfast was simple, but very thoughtful. We appreciated the selection of fruits and top shelf options. Staff was so warm and friendly. Thank you so much for the hospitality! read more

Stayed here last weekend. Wonderful old hotel completely restored to better than its original. Great beds, spotless, and quiet. What more could you ask for. Well I could ask that the restaurant in the hotel could reopen, at least for breakfast and dinner. I'm sure it's a matter of economics in a town of 400. New owners have taken over the Condon Cafe, and breakfast and lunch were great. Dinner, didn't try the bar but drove over to Fossil, just 20 mins, had a wonderful meal at R J's. Good service, clean, and a waitress that was happy we came in. Anyway we will be back for another night at the Condon Hotel. And by the way the hotel serves wine and cheese free, for guests at 4:00 each day. Open the restaurant and you get ***** in my book. read more

Hotel Condon - HISTORIC CONDON HOTEL!!! - Hotels Near Me - Condon, Oregon

Wednesday, August 31 After a long day of sightseeing and realizing it was too far to our next planned stop, decided the Hotel Condon sounded like the perfect lodging. Imagine our surprise to find this sign taped to the door: Sorry we've stepped away from the hotel for the evening. For early check-in, hotel guest assistance, or room availability you can visit our website at www.hotelcondon.com or call 541-384-2250. We will return all calls within 24 hours. As it was the only game in town I did try to call the listed number - no answer, no voice mail! Not sure how they could return a call when you couldn't leave a message. Another couple was there also trying to get a room. Needless to say neither of us will try this place a second time. read more

Charming, period hotel that has been restored. A quiet comfortable suite. Hotel has a dining room and provides a good continental breakfast. The hotel would be good for groups since it has several common areas outside the rooms. read more

Beautifully maintained hotel with gorgeous sitting areas in on 3 floors, comfortable beds and luxurious bed linens. Even the elegant bath robe of yore! Real keys, lovely brass hardware, everything so tastefully done. The man at the reception desk was SO welcoming, so helpful, so kind and pleasant! Breakfast in the original dining room was great including English muffins, bagels, wheat bread for toast, yogurt, a variety of fruit, Oatmeal and 3 dry cereals, coffee, OJ, and so beautifully laid out. We were in the area for the fossil beds, and although there was an hour or more drive to the National Monument, we loved this hotel. Highly recommend! read more

Who would have thought this great hotel would be in the middle of no where Condon. We had a great time visiting with Rob (manager) and his friends. He was great with local and area information while we were on road trip vacation. I've been talking of the hotel and the region to anyone with ears- LOVED it!! And eat across the street at the Round up Grill - homemade baked good and the coffee/gift shop across the street - great small town places. Nice!! read more

Just a couple of doors down from the Sweeney Mortuary is the wonderful Hotel Condon. If you happen to find yourself in this part of Oregon, this hotel is a great destination. Make sure you reserve ahead, because if they are booked, you will most likely be sidling up to the local prairie dog population. As the other reviewer stated, the steak is great. I'd stay away from the Seafood options until the next ice age passes and the sea moves a bit closer to Condon. But the rest of the meal was fabulous, and the waiter was extremely accommodating in a difficult situation. Loved the fact that the chef sent out an unsolicited pre-meal dish of fruit for my kids. The rooms are pretty and comfortable. Loved the bathrobes. Great free wireless is offered (allowing me to write this review). Just make sure you don't get too hammered at the tavern across the street and try to use your key to get into Sweeney's. The beds there don't hold a candle to the Hotel Condon. read more

The Hotel Condon was built in 1920 and has a very nice restaurant. I was part of a large group (22) who enjoyed a Saturday evening dinner in their restaurant. The food was varied, well prepared and reasonably priced. They had no problem accommodating our large group (we gave them five hour notice). I had their chicken Cobb salad and my husband had the pot roast both were excellent. There was a couple at one of the tables celebrating their 38th anniversary and the Hotel put a congratulatory sign on the table reserved for them. Our waiter was efficient but he did act as though he was doing us a favor by waiting on us (such a contrast from the friendly atmosphere of the town and other hotel staff) - if not for the server I'd have given the place a 4th star. read more

Somewhere between the wind farms of the Gorge and the sagebrush of the John Day Fossil Beds is Condon, a most unlikely place to house one of Oregon's most noteworthy boutique hotels. Hotel Condon looks like it would be at home in downtown Portland. Instead, it is the focal point of this tiny town's main drag. Highlights include plush robes, attractive decor, comfortable common spaces, free wi-fi and complimentary hand-made breakfast pastries. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The real highlight though is the steak. The first time I stayed here, the restaurant and bar were closed (Monday and Tuesday), which was a huge bummer as there was only one other place to eat in town after 6:00 PM. The second time around, I caught lunch at the Sagebrush Lounge on Wednesday before taking off. And it was so worth it. The special was a sliced sirloin steak and brie sandwich served with three potato variety fries. While the fries were hand-cut and tasty, they couldn't hold a candle to the steak. I will continue to travel to Condon just to try their beef dishes. Keeping in mind that Condon is only 20 miles from the range land for Painted Hills Beef, it is no wonder they have great steak. Aside from the limited restaurant hours, I would highly recommend Hotel Condon, Stanley Steakouse and the Sagebrush Lounge. read more

We could not have loved this hotel more. Lovely, welcoming staff in a friendly tiny town. We booked a stay here to shorten our drive to the Wallowas the next day. So glad we did. If you want to get away from it all, this would be the place. We played games in the atrium lounge space, visited the mercantile next door, bought some groceries at the small market, and took a walk around town, which didn't take much time. The continental breakfast and the dining room in which it was served were both lovely. We hit the road before the Gilliam County Historical Museum opened, but we were able to enjoy a lot of it by peeking in windows. I look forward to a reason to stay here again. read more

A spacious, clean, bright room in a charming, historic hotel. Large, welcoming common room on the second floor. A good breakfast in a dining room that still looks just as it did in 1918, when the photo was taken that is framed on one wall. Friendly service and appropriate corona-awareness. We wish we had stayed longer. read more

It was such a nice surprise to stay in this gem of hotel. Charming, nicely appointed yet fresh, clean and not tacky. Highly recommend to anyone and will definitely stay again read more

My mom and I had a delightfully delicious meal at the Sagebrush Lounge/Stanley Steakhouse/Hotel Condon. We wandered in at 3 pm and were kindly seated by the super nice hostess and waiter. The bread was super yummy. I ordered the mac and cheese. Oh. My. God. It was probably the best mac and cheese I've EVER had. No kidding. It was cheesy and oniony and just so good. My mom's sesame chicken salad was equally delicious. If I'm ever in Condon, Oregon, again (hm, doubtful), I would definitely eat here. And the hotel itself was recently renovated and looks very charming. read more

Okay, the last review was in 2008, so now for an update. Slept in a Junior Queen Suite for $165 per night. Classy entrance, nice chairs, cheese and crackers samplers, nice little elevator to the 2nd floor. For $165 I got a view of the side of the next building over, a queen sized bed, irregular air conditioning and the noise of people walking in the room above me. However, there were good things like a pleasant continental breakfast (the restaurant is closed), great bathroom and good television. Will go again, and bring a fan. read more

Awesome place; what character is has!! Super clean and very comfy bed. The restaurant is closed and the place across the street is terrible. We were the only customers on my birthday road trip on a Sunday night. Rob was a gracious host and a Packer fan :) we enjoyed our complimentary ipa after a long day of driving. We showed up about 6 pm on a Saturday night. The door was locked. We called and left a message. Went to the bar across the street. Called and left a message at 7 pm and left another message. The only reason I didn't give this hotel a five-star rating is because they don't serve food in the hotel itself. They did deliver wine to our room before the desk clerk went off-duty at 7:00 p.m. They offer a nice little cheese and fruit plate with the afternoon complimentary wine or beer (or soda). The hotel has been tastefully renovated and comfortably furnished. Our room was lovely and comfortable, with a slight hint of fragrance as if a field of flowers (not cleaning solution!) was right outide our window. Everthing was spotlessly clean. The staff was friendly. Condon is a quiet little town and we enjoyed spending the night there after an afternoon successfully digging fossils in - where else? Fossil, Oregon! read more

Don't be fooled by the charming lobby. The prices are high and the amenities are low. They only send housekeeping once every 3 days so if u drink coffee in ur room you get one refill every 3 days. Checkout time is 11, I worked in town late and planed to sleep until just before 11 but was rudely awaken with a call to my room, loud chatter outside my door and stomping up and down the hall all by the staff at 9am. Then to top it off they knocked on my door at 10am even tho my do not disturb sign was up. Staff is hardly ever at the hotel and never at night so if you lock ur self out or have any problems ur just plain out of luck. Do urself a favor if you are getting a hotel in Condon and stay at the motel down the road. 1/4 of the price 300x the service. Shame on you hotel condon. I will not be recommending my friends. read more

Quite an experience staying at this place. Was getting in late so picked up the keys to my room from a friend. Was the only one staying in the entire hotel. definitely a throw back in time walking through this historic building. Room was nice, bathroom modern. We had a delightful time at the Hotel Condon this past week on our excursion to see the many wonders of Eastern Oregon. We arrived on a Thursday, and since the Hotel was not full that night, Rob Turrie, the Hotel Manager, upgraded us to a suite! We enjoyed some wine and cheese at the bewitching hour and had the opportunity to visit with Rob when we invited him to join us. The rooms were spacious, clean, and the bed was good! For breakfast in the historic dining room, we had our choice of hot or cold cereal, a variety of fresh fruit, yogurt, cinnamon rolls, and juice. Plus. . .some really good coffee brewed locally (nearby). A great experience for the four of us. I highly recommend the Hotel Condon for a pleasant stay. read more

Last week my husband 11 yr old son and I decided to go off the beaten path to check out the Hotel Condon. We called and left a message and decided the odds of them being booked were low given the date (11/22/16). The website did not give any indication of price but again we thought - ok historic hotel in tiny town - can't be too much right? We arrived and the owner was on the phone gabbing with a family member ( guess that is why he didn't bother answering our call?)- he didn't give any indication that he noticed us as we wandered around waiting for him to end to call and acknowledge our presence. He finally hung up and asked if we were "so and so", we said no we were interested in a room for the three of us. We offered that we would like a King bed and a rollaway or something like that. He didn't look thrilled to see us and really didn't seem to want us there especially when he quoted 200/ a night for some type of room and then 250/night for what he seemed to think was better. Once I had pulled my jaw up off the floor I asked if we could see the rooms. Pretty normal query right? He pulled a dusty black book from under the counter and started "showing" us the rooms - the pictures were terrible ( printed on regular paper it seemed) in dirty plastic covers AND he kept the book pointed at himself - not turning it around for us to see. It seemed very clear he didn't want to rent to us. Especially when he started to point us down the road to the cement block motel we passed on our way there, which was 60/ night. The only food in town was at the Elks. I'm delighted we left and hightailed it back to the Gorge. I never write reviews but this whole experience felt nasty and very unwelcoming. Gave it one star because I had to given it something. read more
