Creepy motel lit up in dim red

DO NOT STAY HERE. KEEP MOVING, STAY IN NEXT TOWN PRINEVILLE. Motel run by husband/wife team. Check-in process was on paper, with an actual physical key. Gives you an idea of the place. Before we walked in, it was 100% vacant. Every single room door was open in the motel, and we were told to just pick a room. There were dolls in almost every single room, which was creepy as hell. We had to turn them around facing the wall. Cobwebs covered the light fixtures and corner of the rooms, and every ceiling light fixture in every room had only 1 bulb working (out of 4 in the fixture). The rooms are cheap enough as it is, for a reason. Ours were $65. Most rooms don't have a bathroom, you had to go into the hallway where the shared shower stall was. My room had a tub, but no handheld shower handle. The tub was also missing a spout. It was literally just spewing water out. We didn't bother showering. The decor was eerily chilling - items you'd pickup at an estate sale after a death, you get the jist. Also - the wifi in the motel is really poor. To get any signal, you'd need to be upstairs for the best wifi strength. My travel companion and I hungout upstairs to get better Wifi as the town is in a dead zone (completely dead, we have Verizon). For reference, we were the only 2 people at the motel that night. The motel owner threatened to charge us double if we hung out upstairs, and verbally berated us at 11pm while we were on the work call. This is absolutely unacceptable to threaten guests. This is the kind of town where it's best to keep moving, as you're an outsider. Painted hills was great, but stay in Prineville. You can thank me later. Oh -- also -- this town doesn't believe in masks, and scoff in your direction if you are masked.

Clean, quiet and small town friendly. Nancy got me in quick and early so I could get off to explore the entirety of the Painted Hills in an afternoon. The nice thing about staying in Mitchell is that you can catch both the morning and evening lighting at the nearby geological wonder. Sure, my Verizon did not work the entire stay, but Nancy has fast and solid Wi Fi and I was able to attend my online class with no trouble. Enjoy the quiet and character of a tiny town...the cities will be there tomorrow. I opted for the higher priced, private bath at only $20 more than the shared rooms. Either would have been fine, but I can see how it might be a stretch had the place been booked. I say weekdays go with the shared bath, weekends maybe see if you can get your own.

Crisp clean sheets, comfortable beds and pillows, more books than you can read in a lifetime, tchotke, so many unexpected and delightful amenities (massage chair, rollers, books, puzzles, hand written welcome signs) --- it's so much more than you can expect for your donation. And honestly, if you can, shake a few extra dollars out for them. It's hard work to create a space like that in such a desolate space. Don't blink and miss Mitchell

Traveling with family, I thought we were all passed the time of staying in hostels, So mistaken! We got one of the semi-private rooms and it was perfect for a family. Spoken'n Hostel is a pure delight and fills the human spirit with evidence of graciousness, kindness, and unparalleled hospitality. The owner Jalet knows that area better then you know the back of your hand, and will guide you to treasures unknown. All the guests at the hostel were gracious and kind, sharing stories softly, if invited and we all were eager to assist the hostel and small community staying there. I was so impressed we are going to arrange other family trips there with more people, and THIS is where we will be staying.

I took a chance staying here on the recommendation of a friend. I wish I hadn't, but you have to go…read morethere to know there I guess. First the good part. The heater worked. There was plenty of hot water and good water pressure. There were plenty of towels and they were clean. The floor is appeared to be clean. Now for the not so good part. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was a dirty rag that was probably used to clean the shower that was hanging over the shower curtain rail to dry. See attached photo. That was just nasty. The second thing I noticed was that the blankets on the bed just didn't feel clean. They felt grimy. Kind of like a pair of jeans that have been worn too many times between washing. There wasn't any visible dirt, but they did not feel clean and I can tell the difference. I stay in motels a lot and I'm surprised at how many comfortable beds I get and this one wasn't. It was uncomfortable. But at least when I got up in the morning and went to make a cup of tea two of the coffee cups, that I looked at were dirty. I took photos of them and attach them to the review. I don't know if Tim the manager who was not quite rude, but rather short with me on the phone is the person who cleans the rooms or somebody else but whoever it is, they are sloppy or lazier or whatever but they're not cleaning the rooms properly. I think the two stars is very justified in this case. I sure won't be coming back the extra hour drive to Condon will be well worth a good nights sleep in a clean comfortable room for 40 bucks more.

The place was quaint, quiet and came in clutch last minute. It was clean and comfortable, had a fridge and microwave. I highly recommend this mom and pop hotel to anyone in the area and would gladly come again. My son loved the "rustic" look which he called Cowboy. Hands down a nice place to stay and the beds were comfy. Thanks Tim for the hospitality!!!
