My wife and I booked a stay at this hotel through Expedia from the end of this year through New Year's week. Since we booked it, the health of my wife's mother--who lives abroad and has stage 4 cancer--deteriorated, so we were forced to postpone our trip to Mexico to visit her instead. I tried through Expedia and also with direct calls to the hotel to postpone the trip until March of next year and was told that the room was available during that time period. However, when I asked Expedia for a confirmation that we could transfer our booking to the later dates, they contacted the hotel and were told that the hotel refused to honor our request. Even if the official policy of the hotel was to not honor any reservation changes, given these circumstances, I would think basic decent humanity would prevail over the profit motive...but I was wrong. It's not like I changed the reservation the day before we were set to arrive in Mexico--it is more than one month before our original planned arrival. So now we are out over $1,100!
