My daughter immediately said mommy there is stuff on my feet. That included someones hair.

The good: felt safe and had easy parking in the underground garage. Kind staff. The pool was nice and cool, very refreshing. The meh: The food was just ok. As were the drinks. The Mango margarita was thick and had a light pour. The nacho meat was strange tasted very bland almost like it was boiled. The ahi sashimi was an odd texture, chewy and kind of tough. We needed a late checkout but had to come down the next day to request and pay for that. We couldn't arrange it at check in. They were not full as they offered rooms on different floors when we checked in. We didn't know any better and chose the 4th floor for it's proximity to the pool. Next time I would have asked which had a better view. Ours was not awesome. The bad: our room was less than clean. There was some glob of gunk on the floor at check in. It was easily wiped up but very obvious to anyone "cleaning". There were mop strands on the floor by one of the beds. There was dust, dirt and hair on the floor and the track by the shower was filthy. We kept our shoes on at all times. No conditioner or wash cloths. Although 4 of us were staying and paying $200 per night (you pay extra for more than 2 people), there were only 2 towels and 2 waters. We did ask for 2 more towels and they were delivered promptly. We wouldn't stay again but the hotel is close to all things downtown.

Great affordable hotel!! We stayed here 3 nights and we very much enjoyed the offerings and location! Walkable distance to everything, and we felt very safe even walking out to the plaza at night. The rooftop views are amazing... both sunrise & sunset! We enjoyed hanging on the rooftop at the end of our day and used the pool, but it's true, it is on the small side. It's not an infinity pool but the ocean view is still beautiful. A huge bonus was definitely the daily breakfast option, which was included with our stay! The meals were delicious and we saved some money by not having to go out to eat for breakfast, so that's always nice.

If you plan to visit La Paz, Hotel Catedral is a must. It's located in the city's plaza, so you're within walking distance to the historic catedral across the street, museo de arte, restaurants, shopping, and the beach. It's a modern value hotel with a rooftop pool and bar, clean and large rooms, good bath products, and complimentary breakfast. And it was a hot breakfast - not just pastries and coffee. I would definitely stay there again. They do have garage parking, for those with a vehicle. Elevator access for those who need it.

Hotel Catedral is located next to La Paz' historic catedral. Walking distance to the malecón, restaurants and the beach. It's a modern hotel with a colonial feel to it. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, (best mattress we have slept on in a long time). Air conditioned room, sofa, mini fridge and huge bathroom. We enjoyed daily breakfasts here. Had the Chilaquiles with salsa roja, fresh fruit, coffee and orange juice. Other options were eggs or pancakes. Either in the courtyard or in the air conditioned dining room. The entire staff is very courteous and helpful, the front desk, the bartenders and servers are very polite.

We stayed here during our vacation with friends. We loved how it was right across the way from the plaza. It was right in the center. We walked to the restaurants and the beach. We loved the staff here, especially Homero in the morning and Julio, our bartender in the evenings! We loved the pool. We just wished the pool was bigger because it was a popular spot. The food and everything was amazing!

What a pleasant surprise! We found this gem on Yelp and are glad we chose it. For a "value" hotel, they go above and beyond what's expected. The staff are friendly, helpful, and very accommodating with our meager attempts at speaking Spanish. From our 4th floor room, we had a view of the Sea of Cortez. The room itself was spacious, very clean, and modern in both look and functionality. During our two night stay, we visited the pool/bar twice. It was a relaxing place to hang out, have a few drinks, soak up the sun, and enjoy the gorgeous La Paz views. We were also able to easily walk to the Malecon and to fantastic restaurants for dinner. Our morning breakfast was the biggest surprise. We were first served fresh fruit (pineapple, papaya, and cantaloupe) accompanied by yogurt and granola, orange juice, and hot coffee. They also brought us Spanish breakfast cookies. Then we were given a choice of huejos rancheros, chilaquiles, "build your own" omelet, or a large quesadilla. Everything was hot, served quickly, and delicious! When we return to La Paz, this will definitely be our hotel of choice.

Hotel Catedral is an amazing value. The rooms were very clean and updated. The hotel is beautifully decorated and designed. The open air plaza doesn't really feel like you're outside, and it was a lovely place to enjoy the delicious breakfast buffet. The location was perfect; a quick walk to Malecón and nearby restaurants. Easy car access to the main road to get to the beaches north of the city. Parking was free and super easy to get in and out of. The hotel also felt very safe. While there was a warning about pool renovations during booking, it said it would be competed by the time of our visit. When we went upstairs the use the pool, we saw it was STILL under construction. We tried to tell ourselves it felt too cold and windy to swim anyways, and the bartender added insult to injury by informing us the pool is heated. He said it could take anywhere from 3 days to 1-2 weeks to complete the pool work. We would 100% stay at Hotel Catedral again, but hopefully next time the pool will be available. It was also a bit noisy; our room was just at the corner of the open air plaza, so we could hear people moving about and talking as the day started/ended but we were still trying to sleep.

What a gem! A gorgeous hotel in a fabulous location. If you aren't convinced, just look at the beautiful pics of the rooftop pool overlooking the cathedral. Truly marvelous. On to business: The rooms were comfy, had nice balconies, and offered up a great breakfast in the AM. Combine that with the insanely entertaining bar service on the roof, food, Setentas, and you have a winner. Loved everything about this place and will definitely come stay here next time I'm in La Paz!

We enjoyed our stay. Great value for the top-notch service. The staff went above and beyond for us. The breakfast is fantastic. The beds are soft. Would stay here again.

Absolutely love this hotel! Great price! For about $70/ night the hotel includes a made to order breakfast with fresh juices and good coffee! The rooftop pool has spectacular views and the bartender Norberto makes the best fresh cocktails! Will be back soon!

If you're looking for a hotel in La Paz, this is the one! Super friendly staff, amazing breakfast and dinner, yummy drinks and the hotel is very nice and clean. About a 5 min walk to el malecón which is very convenient. We were super happy with our stay and will be back here when we travel back to La Paz. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!! 10/10 !

The service, staff and hotel are amazing. Breakfast service was amazing, food tasted great and had different options available. The staff is really friendly from check in to check out. The hotel is located a few blocks away from the malecón, so it allows you to enjoy the malecón in the afternoon when it comes to life. But is also a quiet area once you return to your room. The guestbook was comfortable, clean and felt cozy. The air conditioning was amazing after spending the day out. Worth the stay at Hotel Catedral

Prior to our arrival, we accepted the hotel's offer to pick us up at the airport. The cost was 380 pesos. The hotel manager, (yes the manager), ALEXIA, arrived on time and was professional and friendly. We arrived at the hotel in the evening, and our room was ready. This boutique hotel's location on the Malecon is perfect. In addition, the hotel's entrance is really nice with a boho chic vibe. Our room, Unit 1, was about 900 square feet with two bedrooms, one bathroom, a living room, dining room, and kitchen. This room did not have a view of the ocean (we booked late in the game). Upon first entering the room, it looked really nice; also decorated in a boho chic vibe. There are a lot of steps inside this room. For example, the living area is sunken from the entrance and the kitchen is sunken from the living room. The same thing occurs upstairs to the bedrooms and bathroom. People with mobility issues or children might want to consider other hotel options. Regarding the condition of the unit, it was good. The kitchen was fully outfitted for cooking, and the appliances were in new condition. We did have an issue with the safe, as it was not secured to the wall. It appeared it had been pulled away from the wall for some reason because the holes in the wall were visible. We reported the issue, and they secured the safe the following day. We also had an issue with hot water in the shower and sink. It was somewhat hit or miss; not a huge issue for us. WIFI in the room interacting with the smart TV was troublesome at times. There is no pool at this hotel. In room massage services are available for $90 per hour. Regarding the service, it was fantastic (FIVE STARS). In addition to picking us up at the airport, ALEXIA helped arrange excursions including a beach tour and sand boarding adventure for a really great price. In addition to ALEXIA, all of the staff members were friendly and professional including FRIEDA, CONCEPCION, and PRICILLA. Overall, we had a great experience at Casa Al Mar with only a coupe of minor room issues; one of which we reported, and they handled it right away. Booking in advance for a balcony room with an ocean view is recommended.

Back history - we got the Poseidon room 11 most likely the most expensive about $415 a night and we were excited to start our vacation with a great view in luxury. Not at all luxury and more like a bad Airbnb experience, let me explain below in details. By the way I complained to the manager via WhatsApp since that was the form of communication, ***and read to the end to hear the excuses from all of these issue outlined below We spoke to Elisa and right away was charged the 50% remaining fee upfront? Would think this is done at check out but ok. Then here is our experience: 1. Entered the room it was literally 90+ degrees. I told the manager prior I would be there at 3pm and then before that time I was running late and would be there at 5:30. You would think the room would be nice an chilled since we traveled over 2 hours to get to this location. Maybe some water or something as a customary gesture... no crickets 2. The door is digital, would not lock after we enter asked Elisa to let us know, she didn't know we eventually figured it out on our own but it meant that one of us had to stay behind since we couldn't lock it. So far wasting our vacation to figure something so simple not even the bar tender would know.... 3. The fire pit on the balcony which is one of the amenities of the room wouldn't start and asked Elisa and of course didn't know. 4. The bed for our son was not made and no sheets or pillows. It was clear it was three of us and we would not fit on one bed.... 5. They brought us a fan since after 3 hours still not. The fan was disgusting!!! Dust all of it like in a kitchen with grease...Don't understand what kind of customer service this establishment thinks is a standard. 6. Salamander in our room they said it's normal so I guess we deal with it and let it sleep with us. 7. No toiletries, we didn't see any in the cubby of the shower but then later on was told it was there all along. When I spoke to the manager he said that they can't have the air conditioner running because this area has electric issues so they don't want to consume the energy and thankful that they have it.... As if saying I was a spoiled brat and should know that having it on all day was selfish. Hay I'm paying like $500 a night and the most expensive room so maybe I should get the best treatment or service that they can offer. The bartender at night was the nicest and polite person their and was able to order food before they closed. The good things about this place was that they offered a place to eat when there really wasn't a lot in the area. The free breakfast was not really anything - black coffee ( had to ask for milk as if it was too much to give me for my coffee) and some cereal kids boxes were left around. To get to beach, you have to walk down a bit so if you are not a hiker don't bother since it is not handicap friendly- not an issue for us but could see a problem for older people. The jacuzzi at night was not working - they were going I turn it on but heard some linking noises when they tried and the manager came back and said it's the summer they don't usually have this on... guess no jacuzzi under the stars. They didn't turn in the fire pit and the bartender delivered our drinks before our meal which was nice. Think the bartender at least helped the situation a little since the manager at night was horrible. You know when someone talks to you and the thing is they don't apologize at all or accept that the service is bad and here is what they would do... One last thing - why give me a menu showing Mexican prices and then charge me at the end US DOLLARS?? Think this I a bit illegal and taking advantage since then they also take the currency in MEXICAN and convert it back which makes it almost extra charge... they did the same thing with the remains 50% hotel fee, it was cheaper when I didn't it online. Something not right here, Never again! Let me be clear if I got a small normal room I would say who cares deal with it at least it has a good view, etc but for what I rented it was the highest amount and was treated poorly.

The breakfast was delicious, healthy and varied every day. There was more than plenty to eat and delicious coffee. The host, Dan, is a very friendly guy who is knowledgeable about the area and keeps a low profile. The location is perfect for visitors to El Crntenario or a short drive if you want to stay in a quiet place just outside of La Paz. I highly recommend Casa Xochitl for visitors looking for tranquility and comfort! If you want to read a more detailed review, please read on. I felt like Dan and his beautiful casa deserved more than compact commentary. It was warm, late and dark when I entered the gates of Casa Xochitl for the first time. The gardens twinkled with little lights and I got my first feelings of what a special place I was entering. My host, Dan, was cool & kind and took his time to show me around my room even though I had checked in after his bed time. He reminded me of the old beach bums back home; with his white hair, flip flops, easy vibe and permanent tan. He was clearly a hard working dude, to be able to manage and maintain that gorgeous and complex property on his own. He was unobtrusive but happy to answer my questions and proved to be an amazing chef. I booked the dome room just for the open air shower and I was not disappointed. It was like having my own private casita - A beautiful brick building with pleasing decor reflective of the local culture. The bed was cool and comfortable, as was the temperature controlled room. A noise machine and charging station were provided at the head of the bed. A guest robe, drinking water, and pool towels were also supplied in the room. The spacious bathroom was nicely stocked and the towels were large, thick, and soft. There was a warning against flushing paper due to being at sea level but the toilet had a bidet and a comfortable alternative to flushing paper. I was pleasantly surprised by the size and appointments of the room. The place was spotless and all of the linens smelled crisply fresh. I did see a little lizard squiggle up the wall behind my suitcase on my last morning but no bugs in the four nights of my stay and the lizard was clean. I woke up at 5:30am the first morning and when I opened the front door of my room to look out at the grounds, I felt like Dorothy! The sun was starting to get ready; warming the colorful flower petals and cacti. The birds were in full song, a gentle breeze rustled through the tall palms, and the water from a nearby fountain trickled through the rocks. I was waiting for a Mexican Munchkin to pop out from behind the colorful bush on the other side of the gravel path. This was the way to start a day! I sat upon the blue bench on my private porch at length; sipping my coffee and combing my bare toes up and down the back of the sweetest resident dog who was snuggled at my feet. She would not give me her ball! My daily breakfast was delicious, nutritious, and abundant. Each day was a different dish featuring local specialties and the host's extra touches like breakfast tostada with pickled onions, tamales, quesadillas, scrambled eggs, chorizo, an array of fresh fruit, yogurt, coconut chia pudding, granola, juices and excellent coffee. The host's kitchen and the breakfast area were at the front of the villa so the vibe was open and welcoming. A large wood table and chairs flagged by a shell & cactus garden and a whispering water fixture made up the lower level. There was also a sun deck above with tables and chairs for early morning or evening views. Behind my room was a cute cantina-style outdoor community kitchen/dining area with a grass roof. Guests were allowed to put our own food and drinks in the fridge and use the microwave. There was a large dining table with chairs and a hammock to make another perfect hang out area. The dip pool area was hidden behind a large lemon tree, beyond the cantina and the host's house. It was small and perfect for cooling off from a hot day. The only head's-up that I would give to other visitors who don't have strong legs is that the steps leading up to the pool and the first few steps leading up to the roof top areas are tall and there are no hand rails and nothing to hold on to. I have bad knees and did not attempt either since I had nothing to hold on to. The metal stairs up to the roof have hand rails but you must climb a few stairs without handrails first. This is not a complaint, just a consideration for other travelers who might have physical limitations similar to mine. I was visiting friends in El Centenario, so the location was perfect for me. La Paz Is about a 12-minute drive away. As a solo female traveler, I felt safe at all times. I was excited to share my experience to hopefully encourage another traveler to experience the magic of Casa Xochitl.

They had awesome palapas and umbrellas on the beach with relaxing bean bags to lie on. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food at the restaurant was delicious and the drinks as well. Bar and restaurant service on the beach and poolside. We had a double bed room and a king bed room. The rooms were basic but clean and really had everything we needed. Any issue we had was always quickly responded to. Every room has a small balcony overlooking the beach, a refrigerator, tv, and great air conditioning. This place is not super fancy but has a great beach vibe. The pool was cool and refreshing and the beach was wonderful. It is very close to some gorgeous beaches like Balandras and tecolote. A short drive to the malecon and along with the restaurant here on the beach, had another great restaurant right next door, the seaside restaurant. I would definitely recommend staying here if you just want a simple relaxing vacation.

The rates are affordable and the rooms are good, a bit outdated however I think it's a good old school style hotel. The food and drinks is actually pretty good and not too expensive, very reasonable prices. The beach area is calming and clean, staff actually racked the sand every morning for the guests which shows how much pride there is in this place. If you're looking for more, extra or wow factor, then try and vacation where the stars are and stay at the Ritz Carlton. The bad is they don't have any gym equipment and the parking lot is limited parking, locals park there to because they have a public beach entrance next to the resort. However everyone is very friendly, great people to practice your Spanish if you're trying to learn.

Hot water failure in many rooms, the flippant receptionist was argumentative about it being already fixed. Restaurant menu other than breakfast is flavorless, overpriced, takes over 90 minutes to prepare, and kitchen staff are not ready to work at times. There is a sliding door main entrance with faulty sensors. It banged into my mother's arm as she tried to enter the hotel, bruising her badly. It also hit my grandson's head. If you have little kids, elderly folks, are differently abled, this double set of quick-closing glass doors is hazardous. I saw several guests get hit by it daily on my 5 day stay. There is an open landfill full of hazardous materials from the ongoing construction of this unfinished building right on the side of the building! This includes rusty iron rebar, twisted metal, splintery scrap lumber strewn about in huge piles, cinderblocks, huge concrete tubes... in a big giant pit, open and accessible right by the parking lot. It occupies the whole side of the building, also ruining the ocean view from the rooms. There are no safety barriers marking this area, so keep your kiddos away from that! Shower doors are not installed properly. One guest in our party had the glass shower door fall on his head, shatter, and cut open his foot. ...And this is the worst part; the staff lied and covered it up. The hotel receptionist was first on the scene to give 1st aid. She claimed the laceration from the shattered glass shower door was nothing, and did not need stitches. It ended up needing 6 sutures. Our group was in shock, but we were rushed off to a SMALLER room so they could clean up the shattered glass and spilled blood and claim it never happened. Then the manager got a personal friend ("doctor"). This loser took over 2 hours to arrive (the manager who called him said we should have gone to the hospital after he called his buddy). The doctor's examination for concussion symptoms was a 2 second glance for alertness... that's it! This patient later went home and was treated for a concussion which was never entered on the hotel "doctor's" eval. -the "doctor" gave his foot a shot of anesthesia, then realized he did not have the right supplies in his bag to give the stitches, so they had to go to the hospital. He did say the patient shouldn't walk for a week, which the hotel manager denied. When we demanded a solution, they gave us an insurance form and a promise for reimbursement to get us to leave. After a week of speaking to their Mexican insurance company, and Expedia... there is no solution in sight. Sneaky, deceptive, bad people running a dangerous place. DO NOT STAY HERE!

I booked 4 superior rooms. My nephew was in the shower when the glass door collapsed hitting him on the head and causing concussion and laceration to his foot. The staff downplayed the incident saying he was ok and that they would have their doctor come and treat him. Meanwhile they rushed to clean the evidence. The receptionist Joanna, gave first aid saying that he didn't need stitches as he was no longer bleeding, but he was. Two hours later the Dr showed up, same story, nothing wrong he'll be ok but he does need stitches and he won't be able to work for 1 week. He injected the anesthetic but had to drive him to a nearby clinic because he had no tools to stitch him up. This happened Thursday night 3/26. They were downsized to another room because "They didn't have any other rooms". It's Sunday 3/29 and still no incident report from the manager Ruben and no doctor note or assessment has been received. This experience has been a nightmare to say the least! I asked for a refund for that room and the manager said that in any case I would have to pay them for the damaged door!!! What a terrible thing to say! Very dismissive, they hung up on me when I asked for the doctors note, and very unpleasant experience. Would never stay there again!

Didn't know what to expect. Hector, the manager there, made me feel like a King. The service was amazing. Every time Hector saw me he suggested places to eat and things to do, then he would ask me if I wanted breakfast the next day to have the ladies ready to cook for us. $100 pesos for the meal ($5.00 USD). The rooms are mainly 2bd, 2bath, with AC, a kitchen living room, and balcony. Each room has a pull out bed. Great price, but taxes are a killer. Perfect for a family. If you have a car, they have very secured parking. The pool was never busy. It felt like the resort was ours for the 4 nights we stayed there. The cleaning was service was very good. Better than I expected. Will definitely stay there next time we go. The beaches are much better than Cabo 100%. FYI: Right now during COVID, the public beaches are closed and last call for alcohol is 5pm. I already booked prior to the new mandate. There's ways around the beach rule. You can access beaches that can only by accessed by private hotels and if you take the boat tours, the beaches are accessible.
