I stayed in a king bed room rather than a suite this time. No microwave, but there is a mini fridge and a room safe. Also an iron and ironing board which I needed. The room is spacious and elegant. No views from the room, but on the roof sun deck and pool the view makes up for that. I am impressed with the quality and elegance as well as cleanliness and service. Three blocks to an Oxxo, and other stores. A very short walk down to the boardwalk. Highly recommended.

Prior to our arrival, we accepted the hotel's offer to pick us up at the airport. The cost was 380 pesos. The hotel manager, (yes the manager), ALEXIA, arrived on time and was professional and friendly. We arrived at the hotel in the evening, and our room was ready. This boutique hotel's location on the Malecon is perfect. In addition, the hotel's entrance is really nice with a boho chic vibe. Our room, Unit 1, was about 900 square feet with two bedrooms, one bathroom, a living room, dining room, and kitchen. This room did not have a view of the ocean (we booked late in the game). Upon first entering the room, it looked really nice; also decorated in a boho chic vibe. There are a lot of steps inside this room. For example, the living area is sunken from the entrance and the kitchen is sunken from the living room. The same thing occurs upstairs to the bedrooms and bathroom. People with mobility issues or children might want to consider other hotel options. Regarding the condition of the unit, it was good. The kitchen was fully outfitted for cooking, and the appliances were in new condition. We did have an issue with the safe, as it was not secured to the wall. It appeared it had been pulled away from the wall for some reason because the holes in the wall were visible. We reported the issue, and they secured the safe the following day. We also had an issue with hot water in the shower and sink. It was somewhat hit or miss; not a huge issue for us. WIFI in the room interacting with the smart TV was troublesome at times. There is no pool at this hotel. In room massage services are available for $90 per hour. Regarding the service, it was fantastic (FIVE STARS). In addition to picking us up at the airport, ALEXIA helped arrange excursions including a beach tour and sand boarding adventure for a really great price. In addition to ALEXIA, all of the staff members were friendly and professional including FRIEDA, CONCEPCION, and PRICILLA. Overall, we had a great experience at Casa Al Mar with only a coupe of minor room issues; one of which we reported, and they handled it right away. Booking in advance for a balcony room with an ocean view is recommended.

Every morning we sat on our balcony and enjoyed our coffees. And something that always tells you what to expect - the most stylish bathrooms inroom and at the beach. We enjoyed several meals at hotel restaurant Barco and drinks at Puerto at the beach club. We also enjoyed chatting with other guests who were also smiling. We enjoyed gorgeous sunsets. Swimming in the warm waters of the Sea of Cortez. Native birds visiting. The hotel staff helped us arrange a private tour to Isla Espiritu Santos - most magical place. Memories to last a lifetime. This place is not super fancy but has a great beach vibe. The pool was cool and refreshing and the beach was wonderful. It is very close to some gorgeous beaches like Balandras and tecolote. A short drive to the malecon and along with the restaurant here on the beach, had another great restaurant right next door, the seaside restaurant. The rates are affordable and the rooms are good, a bit outdated however I think it's a good old school style hotel. The food and drinks is actually pretty good and not too expensive, very reasonable prices. The beach area is calming and clean, staff actually racked the sand every morning for the guests which shows how much pride there is in this place. If you're looking for more, extra or wow factor, then try and vacation where the stars are and stay at the Ritz Carlton. The bad is they don't have any gym equipment and the parking lot is limited parking, locals park there to because they have a public beach entrance next to the resort. However everyone is very friendly, great people to practice your Spanish if you're trying to learn.

The room was nice and clean, they provide everything you need and have excellent room service. The bathroom comes with the usual shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. Outside it is very noisy lots of people partying driving down the street with loud music and such but that is to be expected since it's a party place. If you turn on the air conditioner it drowns out the noise so we slept really well. Overall great experience and will definitely be staying again. There is a resteraunt on the roof on the 5th floor. It was very good! They have a ton of options to choose from and all are very good. The orange juice was very fresh and was delicious which to me is always a plus. The coffee was good and they serve it with warm creamer so the coffee doesn't get cold and will come to top you off regularly. The food came out very fast and the wait staff is very attentive. There is also a great view from up there so if you don't want to eat I would still take a look. Very pleasant experience all around!

They had parking in the hotel garage and the parking lot across the street. be careful with parking in the lot, make sure to prove you are with the hotel so you don't get charged to park. The hotel was clean and the bed was made each day. Our room had a beautiful view of the sunset over the water. We loved watching the sunset from our balcony, but we did not love getting trapped on our balcony for over an hour because we closed the sliding door and there is no handle on the exterior of the door. WARNING- If you close the sliding door to your room from the balcony it will lock and you will need to call over to guests on a different balcony to call the front desk to come let you back in. 2nd warning- If you latch your hotel room door the staff will not be able to get into your room to open the balcony door to let you back into your room. 3rd warning- if you do latch your hotel room door and close the sliding balcony door make sure to bring your phone and jacket because you will be out there for over an hour until they can call a maintainence worker to get a very tall ladder to climb the side of the building and break down a part of your wall to get into the room to open the balcony door for you. (None of this was the hotel staff's fault, I just wish there was a warning sign or something) The mojitos from the roof top bar were delicious.

Back history - we got the Poseidon room 11 most likely the most expensive about $415 a night and we were excited to start our vacation with a great view in luxury. Not at all luxury and more like a bad Airbnb experience, let me explain below in details. By the way I complained to the manager via WhatsApp since that was the form of communication, ***and read to the end to hear the excuses from all of these issue outlined below We spoke to Elisa and right away was charged the 50% remaining fee upfront? Would think this is done at check out but ok. Then here is our experience: 1. Entered the room it was literally 90+ degrees. I told the manager prior I would be there at 3pm and then before that time I was running late and would be there at 5:30. You would think the room would be nice an chilled since we traveled over 2 hours to get to this location. Maybe some water or something as a customary gesture... no crickets 2. The door is digital, would not lock after we enter asked Elisa to let us know, she didn't know we eventually figured it out on our own but it meant that one of us had to stay behind since we couldn't lock it. So far wasting our vacation to figure something so simple not even the bar tender would know.... 3. The fire pit on the balcony which is one of the amenities of the room wouldn't start and asked Elisa and of course didn't know. 4. The bed for our son was not made and no sheets or pillows. It was clear it was three of us and we would not fit on one bed.... 5. They brought us a fan since after 3 hours still not. The fan was disgusting!!! Dust all of it like in a kitchen with grease...Don't understand what kind of customer service this establishment thinks is a standard. 6. Salamander in our room they said it's normal so I guess we deal with it and let it sleep with us. 7. No toiletries, we didn't see any in the cubby of the shower but then later on was told it was there all along. When I spoke to the manager he said that they can't have the air conditioner running because this area has electric issues so they don't want to consume the energy and thankful that they have it.... As if saying I was a spoiled brat and should know that having it on all day was selfish. Hay I'm paying like $500 a night and the most expensive room so maybe I should get the best treatment or service that they can offer. The bartender at night was the nicest and polite person their and was able to order food before they closed. The good things about this place was that they offered a place to eat when there really wasn't a lot in the area. The free breakfast was not really anything - black coffee ( had to ask for milk as if it was too much to give me for my coffee) and some cereal kids boxes were left around. To get to beach, you have to walk down a bit so if you are not a hiker don't bother since it is not handicap friendly- not an issue for us but could see a problem for older people. The jacuzzi at night was not working - they were going I turn it on but heard some linking noises when they tried and the manager came back and said it's the summer they don't usually have this on... guess no jacuzzi under the stars. They didn't turn in the fire pit and the bartender delivered our drinks before our meal which was nice. Think the bartender at least helped the situation a little since the manager at night was horrible. You know when someone talks to you and the thing is they don't apologize at all or accept that the service is bad and here is what they would do... One last thing - why give me a menu showing Mexican prices and then charge me at the end US DOLLARS?? Think this I a bit illegal and taking advantage since then they also take the currency in MEXICAN and convert it back which makes it almost extra charge... they did the same thing with the remains 50% hotel fee, it was cheaper when I didn't it online. Something not right here, Never again! Let me be clear if I got a small normal room I would say who cares deal with it at least it has a good view, etc but for what I rented it was the highest amount and was treated poorly.

The breakfast was delicious, healthy and varied every day. There was more than plenty to eat and delicious coffee. The host, Dan, is a very friendly guy who is knowledgeable about the area and keeps a low profile. The location is perfect for visitors to El Crntenario or a short drive if you want to stay in a quiet place just outside of La Paz. I highly recommend Casa Xochitl for visitors looking for tranquility and comfort! If you want to read a more detailed review, please read on. I felt like Dan and his beautiful casa deserved more than compact commentary. It was warm, late and dark when I entered the gates of Casa Xochitl for the first time. The gardens twinkled with little lights and I got my first feelings of what a special place I was entering. My host, Dan, was cool & kind and took his time to show me around my room even though I had checked in after his bed time. He reminded me of the old beach bums back home; with his white hair, flip flops, easy vibe and permanent tan. He was clearly a hard working dude, to be able to manage and maintain that gorgeous and complex property on his own. He was unobtrusive but happy to answer my questions and proved to be an amazing chef. I booked the dome room just for the open air shower and I was not disappointed. It was like having my own private casita - A beautiful brick building with pleasing decor reflective of the local culture. The bed was cool and comfortable, as was the temperature controlled room. A noise machine and charging station were provided at the head of the bed. A guest robe, drinking water, and pool towels were also supplied in the room. The spacious bathroom was nicely stocked and the towels were large, thick, and soft. There was a warning against flushing paper due to being at sea level but the toilet had a bidet and a comfortable alternative to flushing paper. I was pleasantly surprised by the size and appointments of the room. The place was spotless and all of the linens smelled crisply fresh. I did see a little lizard squiggle up the wall behind my suitcase on my last morning but no bugs in the four nights of my stay and the lizard was clean. I woke up at 5:30am the first morning and when I opened the front door of my room to look out at the grounds, I felt like Dorothy! The sun was starting to get ready; warming the colorful flower petals and cacti. The birds were in full song, a gentle breeze rustled through the tall palms, and the water from a nearby fountain trickled through the rocks. I was waiting for a Mexican Munchkin to pop out from behind the colorful bush on the other side of the gravel path. This was the way to start a day! I sat upon the blue bench on my private porch at length; sipping my coffee and combing my bare toes up and down the back of the sweetest resident dog who was snuggled at my feet. She would not give me her ball! My daily breakfast was delicious, nutritious, and abundant. Each day was a different dish featuring local specialties and the host's extra touches like breakfast tostada with pickled onions, tamales, quesadillas, scrambled eggs, chorizo, an array of fresh fruit, yogurt, coconut chia pudding, granola, juices and excellent coffee. The host's kitchen and the breakfast area were at the front of the villa so the vibe was open and welcoming. A large wood table and chairs flagged by a shell & cactus garden and a whispering water fixture made up the lower level. There was also a sun deck above with tables and chairs for early morning or evening views. Behind my room was a cute cantina-style outdoor community kitchen/dining area with a grass roof. Guests were allowed to put our own food and drinks in the fridge and use the microwave. There was a large dining table with chairs and a hammock to make another perfect hang out area. The dip pool area was hidden behind a large lemon tree, beyond the cantina and the host's house. It was small and perfect for cooling off from a hot day. The only head's-up that I would give to other visitors who don't have strong legs is that the steps leading up to the pool and the first few steps leading up to the roof top areas are tall and there are no hand rails and nothing to hold on to. I have bad knees and did not attempt either since I had nothing to hold on to. The metal stairs up to the roof have hand rails but you must climb a few stairs without handrails first. This is not a complaint, just a consideration for other travelers who might have physical limitations similar to mine. I was visiting friends in El Centenario, so the location was perfect for me. La Paz Is about a 12-minute drive away. As a solo female traveler, I felt safe at all times. I was excited to share my experience to hopefully encourage another traveler to experience the magic of Casa Xochitl.
