We didn't use the hotel so I can't comment on that but we visited the restaurant for a family meal…read moreand I was extremely impressed considering this place is a JD Weatherspoon. I hadn't visited a Weatherspoon for quite a long time, but my previous experiences of eating in them had always been pretty poor, amazingly cheap but rubbish quality. The decor was as I would expect, adequate but soulless. I was however immediately impressed by the new menu design and options. The prices were all still incredibly cheap so although the menu appealed to me I didn't hold any high hopes! I went for a gourmet burger, that came with fries, onion rings and a pint for a mere £6.99. The "free drink" choices were extensive so I was impressed with that alone. I also ordered a children's spag bol for my 1.5 year old son. The food arrived and I was immediately surprised by how good it looked. The giant burger stack was presented really well, the bun was fresh and lightly toasted, the burger was thick and juicy. I couldn't quite believe my eyes or taste buds! Now for £6.99 I have no doubt in my mind these weren't the finest ingredients (quite possibly even horse), but I didn't actually care as it tasted great. My son also wolfed down almost all of his meal and the bit I tried was not the bland tasteless sauce I was expecting, but flavorsome and meaty. If you haven't tried a Weatherspoon in a while and want a cheap meal out then I can't recommend enough for value for money!

Checking in at the hotel late at night we wore happy to have some food at the hotels restaurant. We…read moreall ordered the salmon. We were starving so the tummy was very pleased. Then we had dessert. Me and two in my company got their "hot chocolate with whipped cream". A cute idea, putting ice cream and whipped cream in a cup and then on the side you've got a little cup to poor meted chocolate over it. I would have preferred a smaller serving. The other one in the company had "etton mess" like meringue with strawberry coulis. - The waitresses was nice and friendly. - The restaurant itself could get a lift up. Pretty boring setup not cozy. - A little overpriced I would say

Got a groupon deal for 1 night's stay and afternoon tea, and looking for a quiet night away from it…read moreall, this hotel & spa seemed like just the place. Easy to find just a short walk from Carnoustie station, we were given a lovely welcome at the desk. Our room was clean and nicely sized - no pokey chain-hotel boxes here. The afternoon tea I wouldn't bother with again. We couldn't swap the husband's hot drink for a fruit juice/cola because "the kitchen is separate to us" and the scones were a bit dry. The spa facilities on the other hand are what made this a relaxing break. A decent sized pool (and warm too!), spa tub and a sauna - we spent plenty of time using these facilities and not so much in the gym. A well located hotel for relaxing - right by the beach for long walks, skip the restaurant and get something from the local chippy.
