Georgian Mall

Georgian Mall

It's probably closer to two months since I first dropped by Georgian Mall. I was in the parking lot…read morefor the Barrie Ribfest -- the drive-thru edition. It was held in front of the old Sears store, which is currently Spirit Halloween. That's my first impression of this mall. Stores close, but this mall and the folks behind it find creative ways to lure shoppers and eaters to come here. While heading over to the ribfest, I noticed an L.L. Bean sign. As a fan of casual, comfy clothing, I knew that I had to return and check it out. The mall's layout is interesting. I parked by the entrance closest to L.L. Bean and Moxie's, which was the second floor. This mall has two floors, but the top floor is more like a third of space than what you get on the first floor. If someone forced you to choose a single floor to shop, you would want the first floor because you've got more variety and the food court is there. I would be torn if this restriction was there, for Coles and Showcase are on the second floor and I love them. The main anchor stores are Hudson's Bay, SportChek, and Homesense. The former is massive and decent. I checked out the food court because, hey, I like food and my feet automatically moved me here. You get your usual chains, such as A&W, Subway, and Teriyaki Experience. The ones that I didn't recognize were Good Karma (Indian fare that looked so good) and Wikki Hut (Asian-South American mix of food that looked yummy). There is a blocked-off area to dine, with two staff members checking for your proof of vaccination and ID at the entrance. I spent most of my time in L.L. Bean and Hot Topic. I enjoyed looking at cool merchandise in both and ultimately making a purchase in the latter. I ended up getting snacks at Mr Pretzels and Kernels Popcorn. They are away from the food court, but the aroma from the latter lured me over here. I love that they are practically next to each other. I am a fan of both places and would definitely return to this mall just for these two businesses. The mall is clean and nicely kept. The women's washroom was bright and in great shape, which also included a separate nursery section. I saw a dental clinic. I didn't see any other health services, so you're not coming here for a doctor's appointment. However, you can get your prescription at Shoppers Drug Mart. The only downside during this pandemic is that there aren't places to sit down to take a breather, other than the blocked-off food court. I wanted to eat my pretzel and pretzel dogs somewhere. I ended up sitting in front of the fireplace where you technically aren't supposed to sit down, but I did anyway. It's a decent mall that has practically everything you need and a lot more. There was lots of parking available. I like it here it and would come back to shop some more. (405)

LL Bean

L.L. Bean has been in Canada for a few years now. I am not an early adopter. This visit was my…read morefirst at any of its stores in Canada. Over a month ago, I was at Georgian Mall for the Barrie Ribfest that was in drive-thru format. While driving over to the exact ribfest parking lot location, I noticed an L.L. Bean sign. I didn't have a chance to walk around this mall thanks to going to three different Yelp experiences that day (some would call me crazy, but I like determined). I vowed to return. That return trip happened yesterday. I didn't look at the mall map in advance. It is rare for me these days. I guessed. I saw the business's name at an entrance and decided to park by it. Although it was busy at around 2 pm, I didn't have any problem finding a parking spot. I parked near the Moxie's, which is near this entrance. I liked guessing. Sure enough, L.L. Bean is the first store on your left that you see when you walk through this mall entrance. Sweet! This store is big and bright. A woman welcomed me. It was a nice touch. No sales folks were following me around the store. It felt like a leisurely stroll. Full disclosure: Years ago, well before I knew what Yelp was, I did a road trip to the east coast, took a ferry with my car over to the States, and drove back through the States back home. One of my stops was the flagship L.L. Bean store in Freeport, ME. I loved it so much, especially posing next to an oversized set of signature boots. I wish that this store had that same magical feel. Instead, I looked at the pretty puffy jacket colours. They looked cool and warm. Sadly, you're looking at shelling out at least $300 for one. Ouch! I am a casual person, so t-shirts, cashmere sweaters, and hoodies work for me clothes-wise. You get all of them here. The prices seemed jacked up to accommodate the exchange rate and perhaps more. It's the only downside that I can think of. The quality, colour selection, and style still make me happy. I like the footwear here. I started with a pair of purple Rieker Mary Jane shoes that L.L. Bean used to carry years ago. I still have a blue suede pair of slip-on shoes. The best thing is that it carries shoes in a woman's size 11. If you are looking for a sale, there's a sale section in the back left corner of the store when you walk in. It wasn't heavily discounted, but 20% off is better than nothing. You can get pretty cool gifts if you don't know your recipient's pant or shirt size. There are insulated beverage tumblers, comfy beds for your dog or cat, and cozy sherpa throws. I enjoyed looking at everything, including the travel accessories and bags. Although I didn't buy anything, I was thrilled to walk into this store and check out the merchandise. It's nice that I can get something from L.L. Bean driving up north a bit rather than ordering online, and dealing with shipping, duty, and a longer wait to have it in my hands. (399)

The customer service needs improvement. I have purchased a blazer that was a bit large and returned…read morefor a smaller size. Since they did not have it in the store they have ordered it in from another store without being refunded for my money. When the exchange arrived 4 days later and I have attempted to pick up, the blazer was not the right colour. However I was ready to accept the exchange until I was told that the new( wrong) color is actually more expensive and I had to pay the difference in price. I rejected from principle..I have wasted over 40 minutes in the store waiting for the cahier to figure out the mix-up in colour and authorization for a refund since they suggested that instead of a refund to settle with a store credit. Ridiculous....I do not believe I will ever return to this store. They should have at least match the price of the incorrect colour or ship the product to your door instead of expecting you to do multiple trips due to their incompetence. To bad, I liked their products.

I would pay $20 for a repaired coat and not over $100. Not good quality coat! I have coats that are over 10 years old that look good. This is a quote from their website: "Nothing is more important for us than our Customers" However, this is far from truth! My experience: I was disrespected by the manager and the phone call that I just got, from head office, did not acknowledged that I had to go out of my way to get my coat fixed and I had only wore it 11 days. The coat fell apart, there was a 7 inch opening and you could see the stuffing and another spot where one inch of the stitching came undone and more was going to unravel from that area. The coat is still at the store as I was not going to wait around for two hours! I had waited for an hour and I should have been told that it would be two. Waste of my time and my money as I now have to drive back there. I was not offered by the store nor the head office any compensation for my time, money, stress and negative treatment. This company use to be know as a very reputable company with the best quality of clothing. Heck, the coat is regularly priced at $300. It should be a great coat. Now I will just have a repaired coat. I could have gotten a coat, that is not defective and repaired, from a used clothing store for way less. I have higher standards than this and I should not have to pay for a repaired coat - it is a defective coat, coats should last for years and years. Not eleven days!!!!!!! The sales associate reassured me that this was a good quality coat and that the coat is made by the company as it has a Laura tag on it and she said that they stand behind their product. Not true!!! I have not been treated good by Laura company. I would be embarrassed if something I sold fell apart in 11 days. Heck I would give them their money back even if it was a used item I sold them from my home. Well I guess I am more honorable. I hope they treat other customers better. It is too bad this happened as there was another coat I was waiting to go on sale and I was going to buy that one two. I love to have many coats and I do have many. Not one other one ( including my son's) has ever fallen apart, ever! Well you lost a sale for that coat. PS It was noted that I got it on sale. Yes, true but it still cost a lot and I have a coat that I paid only $50 for that has been snowboarded in and it still looks like new. Not one stitch out of it. I would not have paid anything for my coat from Laura as it is defective. Also now costing $10 more in gas. Thanks for that! Poor customer service treatment: The manager just looked at me and continued to get clothing from the change rooms and then hung them up. Another sales associate could have done this but I only talked with her for a few minutes and then was gone. Customers are to come first. I use to be a manager of a store too. You stop and talk and then go back to what you were doing. So sad that I was treated like this. I will not shop there again.
