After spending a couple of weeks in Poland I decided I needed a break from the delicious cuisine in…read morethe country and return to something I'm never tired of, Indian food. After a quick search I found Hot Chili and decided to try it out. The restaurant is conveniently located near the stare miasto, and so was only a ten minute walk from our hotel. The restaurant itself is not very large but has nice decor and lovely staff who all speak clear English as well. In three days I came here three times, resulting in the staff recognizing our group. Why did I return to the same place in a city as amazing as Krakow? Because the food is top notch! To be honest, I did not have high expectations for Indian food in Poland, but I was surprised with food as delicious as the kind I am accustomed to coming from Silicon Valley. Over three visits me and my friends got to try many different dishes: Mango chicken, chicken kadahi, butter chicken, kadahi paneer, and chicken korma. The standout was definitely the mango chicken which was ordered twice. I am usually not a fan of this dish as it is often so sweet, but Hot Chili made the best mango chicken I have ever had. Their naan is also worth a mention; large pieces which were nice and crunchy. Compared to the cheaper Polish fare, Hot chili definitely dents the budget as the prices were on par to what I would pay in the states. HOWEVER, their food is simply delicious and if you're looking for a better deal go at lunch (which lasts from 11:30-4:30) and costs 20 zl. per person (around $5.30 in dollars) and includes salad, samosa, rice, naan, and your choice of a chicken or vegetarian dish (there are also cheaper meal options but why pay less when you could have everything for $5!). Moral of the story: go to this restaurant and you will not be disappointed. I loved it every time and miss it now that I've left Krakow. Tip: be careful with the spice level, its a bit all over the place. I love spicy so I didn't mind what they gave me, but my friend who ordered "European spicy" got a dish much spicier than mine (and I ordered as hot as possible).

In some cabinets by the back wall there are some food products available to purchase (I didn't look too closely). My friend (with whom I was dining) chose this place to meet for lunch as they have some good deals on set menus. For around 20 zloty you can get a main course (with rice), a samosa and naan bread. I decided on Chicken Jalfrezi, while my friend had the Chicken Tikka Masala. I was slightly surprised when the waitress asked us how spicy we wanted our meals. I was feeling slightly cowardly and opted for mild, my friend chose medium. The restaurant was fairly quiet when we dined and the food arrived fairly quickly. The starter was a samosa with two very colourful sauces. It looked really colourful and tasted amazing (the samosa was pretty difficult to eat with a knife and fork). The main course was quite nice (although I marginally prefer RotiRoti for overall atmosphere and Yellow Dog for its food). It was certainly filling. I didn't actually finish my meal. My dinner companion finished hers completely (normally it's her who leaves some food). The only criticism (from her) was that she ordered medium and her meal was actually quite mild. This isn't too surprising as in some Polish restaurants the food is "adjusted" for the Polish palate.

The food here is good enough to warrant five stars. But other areas let this restaurant down…read more Service is very slow. It took them about an hour to take our food order (perhaps this is a deliberate ploy to sell more drinks?). So it was a full hour and a half from the moment we entered the restaurant to when the food arrived. The waiting staff were border-line rude. They practically told our slightly noisy group to shut up when they couldn't hear some us trying to place our order. Also, when taking a drinks order quite late in the evening it would of been nice if they'd told us that they were closing very soon. It seems this place is all about the money, needless to say they didn't get a tip on our 800 zloty bill. The interior isn't exactly pleasant either. The decor and lighting is fairly dull. Our group of a dozen or so people was seated separately in an oddly-shaped side room, getting in or out of the room involved asking half a dozen or more people to move. It would have been nice if they had some Indian style music playing in the background. One of the paintings had a swastika logo on it, which we thought was and little strange and some people may find offensive. The food was very nice (although at one point I felt like popping out to MacDonald's due to the long waiting times). The lassi was very nice. I tried both the mango and banana variety of this yoghurt-based drink. It was 12 zloty a glass and very addictive (especially if you are waiting for your food). Fortunately it was served in reasonably large glasses. My main course was chicken balti (served in a little bucket as is traditional), served with rice and naan bread. The chicken was very tasty, but very very mild despite the fact I had ordered medium. The hotness scale is something many Indian restaurants in Poland fail to get right. Portion size was good. All other members of our dining party enjoyed their meals. So to sum up, only go there if you have a couple of hours to spare and are not annoyed by poor service.

Delicious / Pyszne ! I accidentally discovered this brand new restaurant while walking to…read moreBiedronka nearby. I came back for dinner tonight, and it was wonderful. I had the Butter Chicken Masala, mild. I always start at lowest spice level and add more spice in future visits if I can, and I will add more spice next time. The Basmati Rice was also delicious and a good match with the chicken. I ordered the Chai Tea, which they make fresh when ordered. It had the right amount of spiciness. Very nice decorations in the restaurant too. The restaurant is part of the Pyszne.pl network, so you can order food for delivery. They speak Polish and English (maybe more?). Casual atmosphere. I will definitely be back! // Przypadkowo odkryłam nową restaurację idąc do pobliskiej Biedronki. Wróciłam dziś wieczorem na kolację i było cudownie. Miałam Maślany Kurczaka Masala, łagodny. Zawsze zaczynam od najniższego poziomu przyprawy i dodam więcej przypraw w przyszłych odwiedzinach, jeśli mogę, i następnym razem dodam więcej przypraw. Swobodna atmosfera. Na pewno wrócę!
