After spending a couple of weeks in Poland I decided I needed a break from the delicious cuisine in the country and return to something I'm never tired of, Indian food. After a quick search I found Hot Chili and decided to try it out. The restaurant is conveniently located near the stare miasto, and so was only a ten minute walk from our hotel. The restaurant itself is not very large but has nice decor and lovely staff who all speak clear English as well. In three days I came here three times, resulting in the staff recognizing our group. Why did I return to the same place in a city as amazing as Krakow? Because the food is top notch! To be honest, I did not have high expectations for Indian food in Poland, but I was surprised with food as delicious as the kind I am accustomed to coming from Silicon Valley. Over three visits me and my friends got to try many different dishes: Mango chicken, chicken kadahi, butter chicken, kadahi paneer, and chicken korma. The standout was definitely the mango chicken which was ordered twice. I am usually not a fan of this dish as it is often so sweet, but Hot Chili made the best mango chicken I have ever had. Their naan is also worth a mention; large pieces which were nice and crunchy. Compared to the cheaper Polish fare, Hot chili definitely dents the budget as the prices were on par to what I would pay in the states. HOWEVER, their food is simply delicious and if you're looking for a better deal go at lunch (which lasts from 11:30-4:30) and costs 20 zl. per person (around $5.30 in dollars) and includes salad, samosa, rice, naan, and your choice of a chicken or vegetarian dish (there are also cheaper meal options but why pay less when you could have everything for $5!). Moral of the story: go to this restaurant and you will not be disappointed. I loved it every time and miss it now that I've left Krakow.
Tip: be careful with the spice level, its a bit all over the place. I love spicy so I didn't mind what they gave me, but my friend who ordered "European spicy" got a dish much spicier than mine (and I ordered as hot as possible). read more
