This Hospice is full of friendly compassionate and a professional staff. Our nurses taking care of my husband are angels. Dr Kanesh is an A+ doctor who listens to every family members concern with the utmost patience. Hospice by the Sea is clean , tranquil, and provides good services for the caretaker. The cafe has good food so you don't have to leave. There are tropical gardens surrounding the property helping to make end of life less frightening and more accepting. One thing you might consider if you are thinking of taking your loved ones to hospice by the sea. at the hospital, they only sent a representative of hospice by the Sea. you never met a hospice worker. you don't see one there. All you see are the workers who come. And the doctor comes once a day and all he did was prescribe morphine. constantly! he said she was in pain. And because of all the morphine. We never got to say goodbye. Maybe that's the right thing I don't know. But you should know when you're making the decision. And that if you just take them home, you get a hospice worker. here you don't get anyone personal. That's really my only complaint. they were fine. The place was nice. a nice bed for my mom. I had a pretty uncomfortable chair that pulled out into a bed but that's all right I guess. And it had a nice door going out into a porch. read more

I felt comfortable coming here and spending entire days with my grandfather and other family members. A small facility, super clean, friendly staff, and a great cafe. My husband was there for the last five days of his life. They made him comfortable so he was in no pain. It's a beautiful place for family.

This review is three years overdue. In September 2015 I had to make a critical decision - how to deal with the end of life of my 90 year old cousin Edythe. I held her medical power of attorney and when her frail health took a Dranatic turn for the worse, and she was presented with an option of having a surgical procedure which would likely have left her on a ventilator, she opted not to do so. Thus, her option was end of life care, and this facility was recommended to me. It is actually located 5 minutes from where I reside, and I had never visited them. I guess it's like why would I visit a hospice if I wasn't visiting someone as a resident or volunteering? And I had done neither. At that time, the facility had gone through a total renovation and everything was brand new - it had the odor of newness. All rooms were private, each one configured a bit differently, high ceilings and each had views to their exterior gardens and grounds, some with doors which opened to the outside. The nursing and aide staff were incredible. Responsive. Sensitive. Informed. Knowledgable. Always available. They kept Edythe clean and showed her respect. My husband and I were there around the clock, taking shifts at being at her side, as we had promised her that she would not be alone, up to the very end. We also had private duty aides to supplement the care Hospice was providing. The ministry staff was also quite good, I met with a rabbi who was on staff for Hospice and he played a guitar for my cousin as well as prayed for her, including on her last day of life. I cannot comment on the food service as Edythe was not eating. The physical plant was immaculate. There was armed security at the front entrance to screen everyone entering as the facility maintains a fair amount of narcotic medications, and it's always better to be safe. After all, this is South Florida.... I had no issues with the service provided and am appreciative that there are individuals willing to work in an environment where everyone around them is coping with death, either their own or a loved one. It is never easy saying goodbye to a loved one, in this case my mother, but Trustbridge (formally Hospice by the Sea) made it better. Given the choice many have had to continue life in a manner that would be painful and limited the choice was made to allow my mother to pass peacefully and without pain or discomfort. Trustbridge allowed that to occur. My mother was transferred by Trustbridge from the hospital to the center and when she was bathed and ready I got the call to come over. She was in a nice room with an outside patio. The facility was so clean and each person that I came in contact with displayed a caring and warm attitude. I spoke with the hospice doctor and the two different nurses while my mother was there and each one showed compassion and care for my mother. A special thanks to the amazing, talented and totally unexpected voice of the Music Therapist who came into the room to sing to my mother. When she started to sing it was like an angel came into sign my mother to heaven as she passed shortly after. read more

Was present constantly there to alleviate a lot of pressure.Provided great deal of pain relief at all times to our dying grandma so that her wishes of dying in her own bed were granted.They even consoled us and directed us to the next steps to be done after her death. This place was an absolutely game-changer for our family. My father was in the hospital and took a turn for the worst. We've never dealt with anything like this and things were moving so fast. We made a quick (and scary) decision to move him here - sight unseen. I can't tell you how grateful we are to have made that call. In his last days - my dad was comforted, surrounded by family and completely at peace. Carlton came in to perform a beautiful/respectful ceremony for my father (a proud veteran). They thanked him for his years of service in Vietnam, placed an American flag by his side and saluted him. It was such a beautiful and emotional tribute the way they honored him. We were so touched - it completely brought us to tears. He passed away moments later. I'll forever be grateful for the (short) time we all spent here. Ive been with hospice by the sea since Dec of 2018. My fathers health is rapidly declining. I am LUCKY IF a nurse comes once a month. They cant seem to come when my father is awake from 4 pm to 6 pm, They leave work at 4 pm and that leaves me in the lurch! Dad has a wound now on his heal and Dr Orsorno said its a pressure point and to elevate it. I asked if we should put him on antibiotics he said no and I asked about taking him to the hospital he said no again to that. I have requested a nurse come to the house tomorrow to look at the wound which has not opened yet... I have been called by a representative and then asked what my name was...ITS IN THE FILE Ive been told IF you keep feeding him thats just keeping him alive...well DUH I want my dad with me as long as I can have him They have wanted to draw blood on my 96 year old father who has dementia and I have refused as not to cause him any more confusion as he is in the final stages of his life I get bills that reflect the charges of 151.00 per day (what they do for me every day really is beyond me) I was told thats how hospice works The nurse that is on my swan team case is again out of the office this week so tomorrow they are sending someone to look at dads foot and see what wound care can be done I dont hate hospice by the sea...its not their fault the people they employ send my 80 pound father EXTRA LARGE DIAPERS...or a seat cushion for a wheelchair other than the one my father has.... I dont hate the nurse that looked at my aide that I pay out of my own money to help with my dad as IF he would agree with whatever she was saying...I PAY HIM..he isnt going to agree with anyone but me What I do hate is the health care system in the state of florida not hospice by the sea personally The end is nearing and all I am trying to do is help my dad in any way I can IF it was up to me when my time comes I am going out of state for my own health care because florida health care leaves a lot to be desired I will update after the nurse comes tomorrow to access my fathers heal. I was presented with a choice. One choice was to push an old, great lady (my mom) to go through a lot of cumbersome medical interventions to ultimately live at a lesser level. Alternatively, we could honor her option to keep her comfortable, treated with dignity, and kept pain-free. I hate to put this review under the Hospice by the Sea location (Boca) but there doesn't seem to be an option to leave a review for TrustBridge Hospice at Bethesda East Hospital (Boynton Beach) which is the facility that this review is about. They are under the same ownership so unfortunately the Boca entity is associated with the Boynton entity. The nurses at TrustBridge Hospice Bethesda East Hospital are in serious need of sensitivity training courses. Management really needs to step in and issue a mandate for these staff members. Hospice is an extremely upsetting environment for the patient and the family and this place does not take that into account at all. The nurses are insensitive and abrasive. We used TB for someone else's care many years ago and they were absolutley excellent from beginning to end. The medical industry has changed significantly since the pre-Covid days and what I heard internally at the facility is that they haven't been able to get the same level of excellent employees and employee professionalism as they had prior. They're working with whatever nurses they can scrape up and it really shows. We are way past the Covid days and they should be able to get some valuable, professional employees by now - that's no longer a viable excuse. There were however, two excellent nurses on staff there - Francine and Gene. Sensitivity classes should be mandated and these two should be leading the course. They were warm, kind, extremely helpful and sensitive to my father's needs and the needs of the family. Other than them, the other nurses and nurse managers that we encountered were the absolute bottom of the barrel. Jessica, one of the nurse managers, should not under any circumstances be working with humans in any capacity, hospice or otherwise. She's just an overall disgrace to the medical profession. Hospice is within the care profession and in order to qualify, you should at the very least, actually care. It takes a certain type of personality to work in hospice and the nurses at TB Bethesda East just do not have what it takes. At all. read more

I am giving them one star because they are clean and two nurses who were lovely and helpful over an entire week. The other nurses were cold detached and so unkind to my dying mom and heartbroken father. The physician was defensive and disrespectful to my father is is a retired MD. Her lack of compassion was astonishing. I've worked in the field my entire career and have never witnessed such dispassionate care. My mom died alone choking on fluids. I would never utilize a hospice who did not allow families to visit while the patient was dying. read more

What has happened to this place? They cared for my grandmother when she passed away here 20 years ago, they cared for my mother when she passed away five years ago, and now it is my father here--but this place has changed for the worst. If you had asked me what I thought about Hospice By the Sea a month ago, I would have a given rave review. They were so attentive and helped us through one of the most challenging times a family goes through. But now, they have changed ownership--something that feels corporate and uncaring--called Trustbridge. It comes down to this: they now want only patients who are dying within a few days. Well, my father isn't dying fast enough for them--he is currently on morphine every six hours, is 93 years old, can barely move his arms, and sleeps most of the day. After a week of him being here, the social worker and the Dr asked my family to move him because they aren't a long term care facility. But they have told us that they want him out. Out where?? He is dying and you are a hospice! Shame on you. I can't believe that you are making us move this man who you should be caring for in his last days. Was selected because the locations near home could not accommodate my husbands needs & their Trust Bridge representative produced the answers (read lip service) that led me to believe this was the least worse location. Upon arrival at the back door as they were pulling my husband out of the ambulance transport, I approached and said "Honey they won't let me walk-in with you I have to go through the front door and I will see you inside in a minute". Once inside I had to produce ID & get a sticker and wait. Someone came and brought me to my Husbands room. He had already been medicated, was sleeping, and never spoke again. He woke occasionally for moments. Not one of the requirements we sought and were assured they could fulfill were provided. When we questioned the staff both the nurses and the Doctor, they lied to our face. - For a period, my Husbands breathing was unnecessarily horrible. I knew from this from experience & of what we learned from the #1 Acute hospital we came from, where a top rated Respitory Therapist taught us a great deal. At this time of his distress I realized his oxygen had been turned off. I got the nurse and as she was turning it back on said "oh no sweetie it is ON see". Yes. I saw that it was OFF, (it's right there on the wall you can't not see it unless you are not looking at it), his breathing was so bad I came to get you, yet she told me I didn't see what I was looking at. Once the oxygen was back on he became more comfortable in his manner of breathing. I can not even begin to list everything that didn't happen that we were assured they would do. What they DID do, was eliminate the option that we were told that sometimes people need rest to recover and do come out of hospice. I know this is true because my own Uncle came out of hospice (in California) and lived two more years. What they DID do, was rob our family of saying good bye and of hearing his voice one more time, this hurts me to every cell in my body, why, why, why? What they DID was make it so he could not drink water, therefore, you can count the days on how long a person can live without water. What they DID do was facilitate his death. - Maybe I am the fool, for trusting and believing what their Rep. said. After me, my Son & Sister-In-Law spent every second of 6 weeks with him, with his mind in-tack (except the occasions his oxygen dropped) though he had issues we were not without hope and were looking for a place that could meet his oxygen needs, dress a wound, and give his body recovery time he needed. This is not that place. *When I said "I" in the above, most instances it meant we, because my Husband & I were always with the love and tremendous support and help with EVERYTHING he needed, from his little Sister (my Sister-in-Law) and our Son, during the regular hospital, to the rehabilitation hospital (even Doctors had HOPE when they recommended that place). / Once at Hospice by the Sea, renamed Trust Bridge, he never spoke again, was moved once in the bed, was on the clock pumped with medication. - 2 stars for the architect, interior designer, Cleaning staff, Cafeteria Staff. The most relevant employees were nice, they were competent, they are accomplished liers. read more

All care practices hospice medication protocols were explained thoroughly..IT IS VERY UNFORTUNATE that my father passed here but I am a physician and can highly recommend this facility to patients and families!!! When my 93 year old maternal grandmother began suffering from congestive heart failure I was forlorn to imagine her living out her last days in a hospital. That's when I learned about hospice care from my boyfriend's mother. For those that don't know hospice provides end of life care. No feeding tubes, endless blood draws, machines constantly beeping or a sterile hospital environment here. This facility is smaller than another hospice place in West Palm. I chose this place over the other for that reason and because the phone liaison seemed less 'salesy'. The nursing staff are the best and believe me I know - I've been in almost every hospital in S. FL by now. They are gentle and kind, and really connect with patients and family on a personal level. There are also a ton of volunteers milling about. Hospice by the Sea's private rooms are like NY studio apartments, minus a kitchen. Family members can stay as long as they like with their loved ones- visiting hours are 24/7/365. Rooms have sofas or recliners, cots, and bathrooms. The patient rooms overlook fountains with beautiful flower canopies that hang over the balconies; creating a sense of peace and well-being. There is also a family area with a lounge, coffee station with cookies, and wifi. They also allow dogs and artifacts from home. I recommend bringing in a few pictures to spruce things up for your loved one. Sneak into the staff lounge to take advantage of the soda and snack vending machines. The door says 'Vestibule' and is located in a hallway off the main entrance. There is also a cafe with limited hours. I recommend the egg salad sandwich on rye which comes with delicious deli style pickle. I went through all the ups and downs one faces when a family member is passing. At the end of it all, Brenda the Social Worker sat with me and we had such an amazing conversation. Medicare covered the entire cost of our stay and if you are searching for hospice but don't have a lot of time or money I recommend Hospice by the Sea. It's true what they say, death is a part of life - but it doesn't need to be as painful and ugly as we sometimes imagine it. read more

My recent experience at Trustbridge was mediocre to abysmal. I give 3 stars because they are a clean facility, the grounds are pretty and location is convenient. My mom was sent here from another hospital due to covid and she lasted about 4 weeks before she passed away yesterday. I recommend to anyone In this position to look for a small non-chain private Hospice. Not this McHospice. I'll begin with entering the building for a window visit. This is like entering the CIA building. Be prepared to spend on average 10 painful minutes giving the security guard The same information you give every single visit. Surely there must be a way to create an account so that people aren't tortured for 10 minutes as the security guard fumbles along. If anyone's loved one is critical I suggest skipping this step and going around to the back as your loved one could expire by the time the security guard has done his job. Then you have to wait for an escort. Nursing care seemed good overall. What I found was zero effort at communication With the family member as to the overall plan and overall prognosis unless you make repeated calls and try to piece together bits and pieces of scant information the nurses would impart. Responses were robotic. Such as your mom is comfortable. Ok is she doing well? Well I wouldn't use that word well. She is comfortable. She ate 40 percent. Most people are not death experts. For most people this is their first experience with hospice. It would have been nice to get concise pictures of what exactly is going on and what I could expect. It would have been nice to have more communication with families explaining their loved ones unIque situation and goals. Certain doctors, like Dr Koby were excellent in this regard. Certain nurses were more forthcoming with information. As for social workers: horrendous is a kind adjective I would use to describe communication with them. If someone is new to this place stay away from a social worker known as Randee, the absolute worst of the bunch. She'll call you screaming about discharge as your mom is a week away from death. I have found that they call you without even looking at the patient. They are rushed on the phone and spend most of the time Rattling off Medicare and CDC rules. Hospice by the Sea or Trustbridge was a very depressing and cold experience for me. If you look at their website you will see pet therapy is available, music therapy is available, etc. In fact they never provided my mom with a phone until the very end was near and she could no longer even hear. I didnt even know a phone was available. By my moms last day I couldn't stand it and complained to corporate. This lit a fire and I received a call back from a supervisor who did not take the time to review my moms file and still had to call me back to answer a simple question of whether my mom had received morphine. We Also got stuck with a nasty nurse Yvonne on my moms last day as far as Her brief communication with me. I only hope she was better with my mom on her last day on earth than she was with me on the phone. I described my experience with her on the phone as talking to Macy's about a return. I seemed to be an annoyance to her. I know now that my mom was 6 hours away from dying when I had my window visit at 130 I got a return call from the nurse at 4:00. She told me she saw my mom before 130. I don't know when she returned to visit her but I would say my mom was alone for 3 hours during her final hours. I hope someone was actually there at the end as they claimed they were. Overall my experience with this place was sad and cold, although sprinkled with some friendly and kind CNAs and nurses. I often think of Target employees when I rate customer service because I find them to be kind and helpful--it is my baseline. I think to myself - would I find more compassion and communication from a Target employee than I found at Trustbridge? Sadly yes. I will be writing a letter stating these points to the corporate office. For others I say look for a private smaller non chain hospice. read more

Trustbridge now operates this facility and it is located at Pinecrest which is connected to Delray Medical Center just off Linton Blvd. Despite other negative reviews I've come across, my experience with Trustbridge at the Pinecrest unit has been excellent. My mother was admitted to Trustbridge hospice care directly from the Delray Medical Center ER. The process was very caring from the beginning and throughout the two days that she was in Hospice before passing away peacefully. All personnel seeing to my mother's care in her final days were very professional and empathetic. read more

Trustbridge \ Hospice by the Sea was an utterly disappointing experience. I will always regret not going with Vitas for my mom. With the diagnosis of Stage 4 cancer and chemo no longer being effective, we knew that the end would be just months away. My mom was a very active person her whole life and lived and cared for herself. As the disease progressed, my husband and I moved her into our home and signed her up with Trustbridge. At initial sign-up everyone was nice and seemed to sincerely care (work on commission?). They ordered her bed and other DME equipment right away. Mom was assigned a nurse to come and drain the accumulating fluids 3x a week. She was also assigned an aide to bathe her 2x week (her aide was the best part of her experience with Trustbridge). The nurse Deborah was nice enough, but she rarely saw my mom. 70% of the time we had a different nurse come to our home. As a result, NO ONE was overseeing her care. No ONE knew if she was worse from one day to the next. As it turns out, each nurse was getting different amounts of fluid drained and the last 3 nurses didn't drain anything. They never questioned why, or what to do, or consult a doctor. They just sat on the bed, wrote notes in their computer, and left. Two days later another nurse would come and do the same thing. All the while, my mom is alert, playing cards, social, but I could tell the fluid was really accumulating. I ended up calling Trustbridge demanding care for my mom! Two days later on Monday a new nurse and PA came to see her and was shocked to see how large her abdomen was with fluid. They asked if anyone had been taking measurements? Hell no, they weren't doing much at all. They suggested having her drained at the hospital. They ordered the EMT transportation, and took her to their facility in Boca (off Palmetto). The doctor was very nice and had her scheduled mom as an outpatient at Delray Medical for Wednesday, two days later. I had a conversation with him and though he normally takes a very conservative approach with hospice patients, he felt she could greatly benefit by getting her drained, fixing the tube. He believed she should be out of pain after and go home that evening. (This should have actually been done over a week earlier!) That first night, Monday evening she was in pain from the EMT ride and all the fluid. They put her her on morphine. Tuesday they increased the morphine so much she was comatose. The nurse that night, said don't worry, your mom is fine, she isn't ready to leave this world. I left. She died 4 hours later. As a note - The PA who came to my house and suggested to go to their facility (for an appointment to get drained) called the place their "resort". It is anything but! It has a new feeling but is an eerie, depressing place impossible to find nurses around. There is one person who sits at a desk if you need anything. I did want to speak to the nurse and overheard two nurses talking in the halls saying how they both disliked working there. My biggest regret is not having gone with Vitas. I just know my mom would have enjoyed many more months (who know, maybe years) of life if I had been with Vitas and not Trustbridge. Shame on you Trustbridge. read more

I am writing about the bereavement counseling I received at Trustbridge Hospice at 1531 W Palmetto Park Rd, Boca Raton, formerly known as Hospice by the Sea. I am overwhelmingly grateful for the help I received from Betsy Klasko my bereavement counselor at Trustbridge. I never knew about hospice helping the family members who remained behind. I was unaware of how I was affected by the trauma of burying both my younger brother and my 97-year old mother within six months of each other. The hospice people with my brother and mother were wonderful, very caring and respectful. I thought I'd be okay afterwards when I returned to work, but I wasn't. Betsy recognized this and encouraged me to continue meeting with her. She counseled me on my feelings and thoughts, she educated me about grief and grieving. Whatever she told me made sense and comforted me. I urge anyone who is offered this service to use it. This is an incredibly helpful, meaningful, free service offered by hospice to family members who have lost loved ones. read more

My 60-year-old sister was transitioned here after tragically being diagnosed with Stage-4 gall bladder cancer back on January 16th. I flew down from Chicago to help her transition to hospice care from Boca Raton Community Hospital on January 31st. The hospital's palliative care consultant and oncology unit social worker both encouraged my family to place my sister at Hospice by the Sea - in part, because they both work with Trustbridge - the new management company of this center. We did tour the facility and were glad to see it was well-maintained and clean. I wish I could tell you it was all good. And some of it was. The doctors - Dr. Luck and Dr. David - were marvelous and so incredibly compassionate. The nursing staff was great also. We really loved Joseph and Jackie. But - here's the real issue: the first day my sister was brought in, she wanted more pain medication and went to press the call button with no result. I pressed it for her and had no result either. We waited for a staff member or nurse to come by, but no one did. Pressed the button again. Nothing. It was then that I realized - right before I was leaving my sister for the evening - that staff PLACED HER IN A ROOM WITH AN INOPERABLE CALL BUTTON! I almost left her, thinking she had access to staff with that button, and she would have been left alone for most of the night with no help. I was furious! I demanded staff fix it, but they couldn't because it was after hours. They referred me to the charge nurse, Leif, who told me he could have a bell put in her room for the evening. I kid you not - he then brought to her room one of those little old-fashioned silver bells that you ding when you want service at the DMV or some such place. It could not be heard down the hall by the desk and CNA staff! I demanded then that the charge nurse sit outside my sister's room all night until I got there the next day. Staff had her moved to a (much smaller) room the next day because they weren't sure when the call button would be able to be fixed in the original room. During all this commotion, I repeatedly asked staff to speak to a social worker. My sister had asked that I be her power of attorney. I had no experience with that and wanted to talk to a social worker, whom I was told would be able to help. I finally was able to speak to a social worker, Brenda, who just gave me power of attorney papers and explained that they would need to be notarized. I asked repeatedly for a notary. First, I was given a sheet of names of mobile notaries. Then I was told there was one on staff right there in the hospice center. So I asked for her to come to my sister's room. The notary finally came, but appeared to not be sure where signatures should be placed. The paperwork was filled out and notarized. A few days later, when I finally used the power of attorney - I was told it was invalid because the names were placed in the wrong sections! I had an unusable power of attorney. I came back to the hospice center after that incredibly upset! I could not believe that staff was that inept. They deal with these issues all the time as part of their responsibilities. I demanded to speak to the social worker. It was another social worker who was sent to my sister's room. Her name was Randee. I was yelling about how the notary was inept, and she said to me, "I'm sorry, but your sister isn't the only person receiving care here." !! Then she told me she could have a notary out on a Saturday morning for a $50 charge. I replied, "A charge your organization should pay for after the inept work of the first notary!" And Randee said to me, and I am not making this up: "If you don't like the care your sister is receiving here, you can just bring her home!" What an insensitive and rude slap in the face to my sister! She had no compassion and was only concerned about one-upping me instead of resolving the situation. My jaw dropped and I told her I would be reporting her and Hospice by the Sea administration to the Florida regulatory agency who oversees hospice centers. She replied, "GO AHEAD!" If it weren't for the marvelous doctors and nursing staff, I would have given this review of Hospice by the Sea zero stars. Avoid this place like the plague if you hope to receive support and guidance during the most stressful time of your life from their administration. They are worthless! read more

My relative has been in this facility for 2 days. She has suffered the entire time because the nurses refuse to distribute medicine in a timely manner. If my family wasn't present- my relative would not be getting any attention. There is only one RN working at all times and seemingly no one in the facility knows where she is. The doctor is never here. Therefore, trying to get ahold of him for medicinal purposes is extremely difficult. The nurses at this facility ignore all the patients. Tonight, for instance, I witnessed a patient shouting "Hello" for 45 minutes, attempting to get the attention of the staff. I went to the front desk to tell the attendant, he was nasty and told me the nurses were "aware" of the situation. After 15 minutes a CNA went to the shouting patients door and CLOSED it. She didn't even CHECK ON HIM. This place is the WORST. If I could give it ZERO stars I would. read more

My sweet mom donated her time at this Hospice for years and when she saw the love and care they give with an open heart she knew when she had incurable lung cancer at 83 she knew where she wanted to drift gently into the arms of God. I was there with her every day for her last days and I was moved to tears at the kindness and care she received. I'm not ready to go yet but I want to donate my time and be a part of such a loving & caring place. She drifted painlessly and peacefully away. read more

If your relative has a chance, avoid this place, though it is very beautiful and calm. My mother left the ICU unit at Boca hospital after a week of abuse there. Since she had made it through hospice twice before, and lived another 5 years, the family saw this as a recovery place. However, the nurses at Trustbridge normally administer morphine daily, in other names, of course so family can be unaware. When our mother was doing better and did not die in 2 weeks, she was scheduled to move out. But the morphine eventually caught up with her. In the end, we were surprised to learn that 3 weeks later she died of sepsis which developed at Trustbridge without us knowing, making us question greatly the quality of care she had there. read more

Hospice by the Sea saved my father's life and my life 4 weeks ago. I didn't know whom to turn to for advice or help. Dad was 94 years old, Alzheimer's and in terrible, awful pain. I thought Hospice was for cancer patients in their last days. Brenda, the nurse who came to our home, explained what Hospice by the Sea is, and the criteria for admission. We talked about getting his pain under control, and taking it day by day after that. If he stabilized, he would come home. The next 9 days were pain-free for my dad and truly soothing for my mom and me. We visited daily. The nurses and aides and nurse practitioner were amazing. They explained everything to mom and me. They cared for my dad as if he was their own dad. They talked to him, washed him, and shaved him. They explained to us what was happening. There were no secrets. We talked to Dad to the very end. He heard us. He squeezed our hands. He opened his eyes when he could. He desperately wanted to leave this world, and be free of the pain and indignity of his disease. He had long ceased to be the husband and dad we knew. Hospice by the Sea was a gift to my dad, mom and me. I will be forever grateful to Brenda, Nicole, Marcia, Eleanor and Peggy. read more

The staff at this hospice made this difficult time much worse for my family. They were openly hostile and tried to kick my father out in retribution because we dared to question their treatment. Their lack of respect and professionalism towards my family was inexcusable. My father suffered from dementia which sometimes caused him to choke on his food which would get caught in his lungs. His doctors said he did not have much time left and recommended hospice. My father was not in pain. He was alert and could talk and joke with us. His long term memory was good but he could not remember what he did 5 minutes ago. My father sometimes wakes up confused in the middle of the night and needs a little reassurance to get back to sleep. When we brought him the first night we thought we could relax, knowing he was taken care of. However, the next morning we found my Dad was unresponsive and could not be awakened. We checked with the hospice doctor, who found that a nurse had given my Dad 2 doses of Morphine in the middle of the night without the doctor's orders. My Dad was not in pain and had never needed Morphine. The doctor could not give us a good reason why my father was drugged. My father did not regain consciousness for a day and a half. After we complained to the doctor about the Morphine, the administrative staff became defensive and hostile towards our family. The next day, while my Dad was still unconscious, we were told by the staff that my Dad no longer qualified for their hospice (even though he did qualify) and that we would have to find another hospice facility immediately. It was a holiday weekend and we could not find another facility. I asked the hospice doctor to speak with my Dad's regular doctor, but he refused. He arrogantly stated, "I am the expert on end of life care, not your Dad's doctor." He said that my Dad needed longer term care and did not qualify for this facility. My Dad passed away a few days later. The week we spent at the hospice took a terrible toll on my family. We had to argue with the doctor and the administrative staff daily to keep them from pushing my Dad out of the facility. My brother and I took turns staying 24 hours with my Dad to make sure he received proper care because we no longer trusted their care. We lost a precious day and half of time with my Dad because they overdosed him with Morphine. Because we questioned the care they were providing they tried bully and intimidate us so that we would leave. They should be ashamed of the pain and anguish they inflicted on our family during my Dad's last days. read more

Trustbridge hardly increased the quality of life. Your life will look NOTHING like the happy, stock photo footage, on their website. It's highly misleading to suggest that this company provides "care" because that's not what they do at all. The family are in for the most gut wrenching time of their lives. YOU will be providing all the care. YOU will be cleaning up the vomit. YOU will be staying home from work. YOU will be getting very little sleep, YOU will be emptying the urine bag. If you need 24 hour care YOU better be prepared to tough it out or you'll be told to hire additional help. THEY will provide nothing as far as actual care. THEY will provide the drugs and equipment. Expect your nurse to briefly stop by once a week to give advice and arrange the deliveries of all the drugs and equipment that they can squeeze out of the insurance company. You'll be given a phone number for emergencies and after about a two hour wait a nurse will stop by to offer advice. This is not what I expected at all. I wish I could say that they improved the quality of the end of life process for my wife and I, but sadly, they did not. The nurses were very compassionate and nice but the business is not like it used to be. Now the majority of the work and burden has been shifted to the people who are physically and emotionally least equipped to handle it. read more

Hospice was called in to help my dear mother, and although she had Alzheimers, I wish to believe that she knew that they were there for her; as us her family. Hospice volunteers and staff came every week and checked in on my mother's status of pain, etc. They were very compassionate and professional. My mother Dorothy Rothman, was in her day, a Ballroom dancer at Roseland, and Madison Square Garden in NY. Knowing this, a dear Hospice volunteer, came into her place, and played music on a Violin, of all the oldies my Mother loved. Momma may not have known who or what was happening, but we, the Family did...and that meant the world to us. We wish to Thank you at Hospice (PBC) Pearl Team (Judith Sharpe), and all the other Nurses and volunteers that unselfishly care and take care of our loved ones. I first-hand know what it is like to lose a loved one, I lost both parents, one to Cancer and the other to Dementia. I have Cancer and know that we all need help here and there, and when the time comes for me to stay at home and get good care from caring people...Hospice will be first on my list. 2010...I would give 0 stars for this horrible facility if possible!! I cared for my parents and had help from hospice in Broward county while my dad was living with me, and when my mom was able to go back home after her stroke we started with hospice of Palm Beach County for my dad. The nurse began overmedicating him (giving him full strength antipsychotic meds from the beginning). Once I saw what she had done, I had to send my poor father to the Hospice by the Sea facility in Boca Raton due to that nurse that was overdosing him with different meds (she should have been arrested); it took 3 days to see him feeling better. Then 2 days later in that same Hospice by the Sea facility in Boca Raton, I walked in about 4 hours after lunch time to see my father sideways in the bed with his feces (wet and dry) covered all over him, head to toe, in his nails, his hair, his mouth!!!! He was crying and yelling for help for who knows how long. The bed and floor covered with wet and dried feces as well. And a untouched lunch tray sitting on the table. He had been like that for what seemed to be at least 4 hours and the staff is/was responsible!!!. Imagine the trauma for my mother and myself seeing him like that....and all they tried to do was quiet me down with no apologies. It's a travesty that these places (i.e., hospitals and even hospice!!!) are not regulated properly!!!! read more

I contacted Hospice by the Sea in Broward County as my father's health grew more precarious. I was a little hesitant to use them as his condition wasn't necessary terminal in the short term. They explained everything to me, including their emphasis on the patient's comfort and they were willing to modify their default protocols in line with our concerns and needs. From the moment the first nurse arrived for an evaluation at home, I was sold. They were kind and informative and made sure to explain everything they were doing and intended to do. They had necessary equipment delivered in the middle of the night, and additional equipment delivered over the next two days. The individual caregivers and supervisors who attended my dad were fantastic and worked to make sure my father had everything he needed. I recommend them highly. read more

Firstly, the name is now Trustbridge and not Hospice By The Sea. My friend's father went in years ago and within two days he had passed away, despite being stable and given a prognosis of no less than 4-6 months. My grandmother also went in and we were told that she was fine and we could go home after two days, and again in two days she had passed away. My father was diagnosed with colon cancer and we opted for home hospice. The intake nurse was very kind and assured us that we would have whatever help we needed and that initially it would only be 3x/wk as he was considered Level One. Within a month, his needs had changed but they did not provide more care until I contacted the CEO of Trustbridge. Even then, the quality of care was subpar at best. The nurses and aides were abrupt, some were very pushy and rough. I had to intervene numerous times and shudder to think about those who do not have a bossy advocate such as me. And they do not want to do anything related to "care" such as stoma care or PEG tube care. Some of them spoke English very poorly and I finally asked that they send someone who spoke English as a first language, only to be told that "that is not our population." Huh?? Eventually I hired private duty nursing from a home health agency. I was told that they only come out when a patient is very sick for "symptom management." ARE YOU KIDDING? Meaning, if a patient cannot breathe, they will send someone out, and this someone will NOT be a physician. Their social worker was extremely rude and I reported her and would not allow her to return. In summary, do NOT Trust "Trustbridge", which name should be changed to Lack of Trust-Bridge. read more

Worst experience ever my grandfather is currently patient here and when he went in he was coherent they moved him in the middle of the night with a blindfold on and within one hour he was unresponsive and drugged beyond recognition. The nurses claimed he had pain when I said no he didn't they asked how did I know I told them I asked him before we came and then I asked how did they know he did they had no answer. He will remain knocked out for the remainder of his stay which as most of you know will be death. This is so cruel his last moments could have been special spent with loved ones instead he slept in a drug induced coma with no interaction if he opened his eyes or spoke at all the nurses ran in and injected him with some more sedative. He was denied food and water the entire time they claimed he did not need it as you know the body cannot survive without water I was aware it was his time but I did not think hurrying the process was important I simply wanted God to run his course. This was so inhumane I cannot express my pain and disgust animals definitely receive better treatment. One more point for you to ponder once you enter hospice you longer qualify for any medication no diabetic medicine, or blood pressure medicine even if it is not related to your main aliment. You no longer qualify as a human being you are just taking up air and are better off dead. read more

My father had to undergo what we were told was a simple procedure for an aortic aneurysm at Bethesda Medical East in Delay Beach, Florida but a few days later his kidneys became blocked and the only choices we had were either dialysis every day for the rest of his life or to take him home and keep him comfortable. That's where Trustbridge came in. They supposedly made all of the arrangements to have everything we would need at the house; hospital bed, oxygen tanks, nurse care, etc. I was assured at least 5 times that everything was taken care of. I arrived home shortly before the ambulance did to learn from the nurse that no medications were at the house and none were sent home with my Dad. It took 4 hours to get the meds delivered during which time my Dad suffered incredible pain. There was nothing the nurse could do. I even offered to go pick up the meds but kept getting told that they were in route and would arrive shortly. It was an agonizing time. The meds finally arrived and were administered. Four hours later my wonderful Dad passed away. I will never forgive Trustbridge for making my Dad suffer the way he did in his last few hours with us. The best they could do was offer their condolences and say they would check into why this happened and make sure it's never repeated. Truthfully I wouldn't trust them again. If your loved one is under their care make sure you ask all the right questions and do as much as you can yourself. It's hard enough to lose a loved one. Don't add regrets about their care to your grieving. read more
