My wife and I just wrapped up our second stay with them for an adults only 5 night stay. The ranch is truly like nothing else we've experienced. At the beginning of your stay the head wrangler catches up with you and pairs you with 1 of their 130 horses that are wonderfully trained and cared for on site. The food is one of the major highlights for me and you will enjoy plated 3-4 course dinners each night, with several entrees to choose from at each meal. The cabins and amenities are great, but what really makes your stay special is the people, both the staff and guests, that you spend the week with. I can honestly say it is the best customer service experience I have had to-date, and that doesn't do it justice, because you leave there feeling like family. Things to consider: 1. The Guest Ranch appears pricey to some and we definitely agree that it's a considerable amount of money to spend on a 5 night vacation. That said, we left both years satisfied and without any regrets. 2. We have only visited in late September and early October near the end of their season. Both stays had at least 1 day of rainy weather. You can ride horse and do most activities even with rain, or just read and drink coffee next the a roaring fire, but weather and timing of the visit may be something to consider. 3. Alcohol is not included but the bar is very generous and has a great wine list. That said, we've brought special bottles of wine to the ranch to enjoy with dinner, without issues.

Then we saw the Madison River Tubing truck and so I looked into them and what they had to offer. It looked and sounded so fun, so I decided to book it online. The process was easy and smooth. The website did say each person needed a Montana Conservation License, which I had to purchase separately on another website. It was easy enough, however, I was never asked to present it. Maybe it was just in case. They also have coolers, dry bags, waterproof Bluetooth speakers, towels and waterproof phone cases for rental. We arrived on the day of our excursion at the "California Corner" and checked in. I had added a Bluetooth speaker and dry bag to our reservation. The river was flowing really fast while we were there, so our float was only about 90 minutes, but it was a lot of fun! You have to watch out for rocks and brush, but other than that it was a really fun and relaxing time. That water was a little chilly, but it felt good on such a hot day! The staff are excellent--very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend Madison River Tubing.

The drive to the put-in is so beautiful I recommend that option. The company is well-organized, safety conscious and helpful at the put-in and take out. It's a wonderful way to experience the Madison River and the scenery. And, you will cool off! Take beer if you like but have a designated driver.

The path to the waterfall is also paved with asphalt so it's a smooth walk up and great for strollers. There are two vault toilets at the parking lot, and a small picnic area near the entrance of the parking lot. This is an amazing waterfall. Water cascades down a columnar basalt face so it's particularly stunning. I've seen amazing columnar basalt formations (Devils Tower, Devils Postpile), but none with a water element. It's very memorable. I saw some people trying to scramble up the rocks to get to the top of the waterfall, but I'm not sure how safe that is. From satellite photos it looks like there's just forest up there anyways.

All the way up is paved which makes the experience nicer and easier, if you're not looking to break a leg going up haha. The sunset up there are amazing and all pictures are Instagram worthy!!! I took my 70 year old grandma and she enjoyed the hike and even made it from start to finish. The ride there is a bit intense with many curves so I'd recommend to take a bag for those that may get car sick. I'll be coming back to Montana, just for this beauty!

On the first day, we hiked two miles in to a remote alpine lake and I caught my first Arctic Greyling (and then 10 more and a dozen or so Yellowstone Cutthroats). On the second day, we spent the morning honing my casting skills on the Firehole River, catching over a dozen fat Rainbows and Browns. After lunch we hit the Gibbon for what Buddy called "feature water" where I caught a couple Westslope Cutthroats and bunch of hungry Browns on dry flies. 50 fish, 5 species in 2 days. Being from California, I am not accustomed to seeing such a great mass of land and understanding that it is managed and maintained by a few honest people.
