We have never touched a fly fishing rod in our life and Kyle was an exceptional guide for us newbies! We have been wanting to get into fly fishing but wanted to try it with a guide before we invested in the gear. Long story short, we had an unforgettable experience and we will be buying our own gear! Kyle was patient and taught us so much during our half day trip. He also provided water for us in the boat to ensure we stayed hydrated. The Madison River just outside of Bozeman was beautiful surrounded by mountains. Overall, it is worth the money. Don't be scared if you've never been fly fishing before! Highly recommend Montana Angler! read more

Recently went on a guided Montana Angler for my first time fly fishing guided float trip experience . Beautiful scenery . Didn't get enough instruction. Caught nothing during Mayfly hatching . Next time I'll try a different fishing company. Disappointed. read more

We were total fishing novices - Carter of Montana Anglers made sure we had a fun flyfishing experience and successful time! Super knowledgeable and very patient with us newbies - he really explained how to best use the flyfishing poles, so when we hit the water we were ready to go. Amazing wild life sightings - multiple golden eagles bald eagles, osprey, a swimming bull-snake and some deer - along with catching trout and white fish. Well worth the spend $ - thank you Carter and Montana Angler! read more

I was recently on a float trip down the Yellowstone River with Montana Anglers. The weather changed during the middle of the trip and it started to rain heavily with thunder and lightning. The guide had no clue as to what to do except to keep fishing. Being out on the water in a metal boat holding a rod is more than tempting fate. It is a lack of knowledge of basic safety practices. When the trip was over, my guide asked me to exit the boat on an unstable rocky prominence, in the pouring rain. I slipped backwards, landing on a large boulder shattering my ribs. After a trip to Bozeman General Hospital, I called Brian Mcgeehan, the owner of the company to discuss my experience. He was totally uncaring and his only reply was "that's fishing". No Brian, that is not just fishing that is neglience. If I would have landed 2 inches to the right, I would have shattered my spine and would have been permanently paralyzed. Both guides on my trip said the owner only cares about the money that he is making. They did not have kind things to say about him. Now, neither do I. There are many other tour operators serving this area. You would be wise to pick anyone else! read more

Great selection of brands and merch. Probably went in to 15+ fly fishing stores this trip and this was the most unique. Good service, parking out front. Don't miss it. read more

Best place to enjoy fly fishing in Montana. First class place to catch trout and enjoy nature.

Had an absolutely amazing time floating the Yellowstone with Matt. The overall experience was stellar, Matt's experience and wisdom shined, and he was super patient with my poor casting and dad jokes. I'd absolutely recommend anyone float with these folks. read more

We had a great day with Montana Angler! My wife and I are brand new to flyfishing and we couldn't have asked for a better first experience. It was 18 degrees outside and our guide, Adam, knew the perfect place to take us. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and patient. We spent the day fishing a spring-fed creek and catching brown and rainbow trout. The service from start to finish was flawless and we couldn't have asked for a better guide or day on the water! We will definitely use them again when we return to beautiful Montana! read more

Third trip with Montana Angler and the experience was fantastic, as always. We had to work around the June '22 historic flooding, and our guides Ben and Jared worked hard to give us the best possible fishing opportunity. We stayed at the Boulder River Outpost where Simon took great care of us. Every meal he prepared was top notch (especially the cast iron cookies) and he covered all the details for us. The Outpost is located in an absolutely gorgeous location And we were treated to some amazing sunsets. Can't wait for next year! read more

We had the best time on the drift boat fly fishing for trout for the first time with our guide Carter. He gave really patient and easily understood directions and was super fun to hangout with! Definitely the highlight of our trip read more

Wow! What a great experience! We were lucky to end up with Ben for a group trip. My 11 year old son and I had never been fly fishing before, so instead of just hitting the river, Ben expertly and patiently spent the time to get him dialed into everything he needed to know and sure enough, he caught a fish on the first cast! He is just as much "teacher" and "coach" as he is "guide." Ben was extremely friendly and very knowledgeable, even on a river he didn't guide as often. He engaged with my son, making what could be a long day, very interesting and fun. He took the time and energy to drag the boat up a tributary and have us disembark in an area that he had a "feeling" about, and after a short but pleasant walk up the stream we did, indeed, hook the catch of the day (see photo) from the whole group! I can't recommend Ben enough. Although he was the perfect guide for a family of newbies, I'm 100% sure he would be just as great for an angler of many years' experience. Finally, his very friendly canine boat companion "Remmy" kept us entertained by chasing rocks thrown in the river and generally just keeping us company. Thanks Ben, and Montana Angler for a once in a lifetime experience. We are "hooked" (haha) on fly fishing and next time we come up, we'll be asking for Ben to help us out again. read more

Montana Angler - Ben Hahn is the MAN!! - Fishing Near Me - Bozeman, Montana

Our trip DEFINITELY met (and exceeded) our expectations. Heather did an outstanding job getting us there, and ready to fish, without any hassle.  She was a great help and SO patient with a couple of novice fly fishers.  She got us rolling and had us on fish the whole time we were out in the boat.  She was very knowledgeable about the river, the environment and kept us engaged and entertained the whole day.  We couldn't have asked for a better guide experience. Everything from start to finish on the trip couldn't have been any easier.  You have a wonderful system for reservations and communicating what needed to be done from our end.  And you have a great guide in Heather - I would have no doubts your other guides would be up to the same standards.  I would recommend Montana Angler to anyone looking for a guide trip in the area. read more

Montana Anglers Fly Fishing guide service was great. I have been fly fishing Southwest Montana for over a decade every summer. I really wanted a guide that could help me become a better fly fisherman ... so not only did that person need to be a great guide ... they needed to be a strong teacher as well. Our guide Dario was excellent: great guide, teacher, communicator, and person. We loved the day! Not only did we catch trout floating the Madison but we also frequently stepped off the boat and spent time wading and honing my water reading skills, fly casting, mending, and hook-setting. I think we taught a (fisher)man to fish better. It was great and hopefully, we'll do it again soon! read more

Great little shop that has qualified people. Found two items that I couldn't even find on amazon. They also offer classes for beginners to experts at no charge. If you are going to Bozeman area to fish, do take time to stop here. read more

Doesn't matter if this is your first time fly fishing or you are a veteran; this company will work with you to have the best experience and improve your game. I consider it a game. I was a first timer and the rest were advanced even to veteran level, but our instructor, Pierce, was able to cater our experience to each level. Phenomenal! read more

What a fantastic way for my husband and son to start out our vacation and first time in Montana. From the first email when I booked the trip to the moment I picked them up from a full day of fishing was first class. Jared was their guide and was so knowledgeable about all of Montana. They both caught several brown and rainbow trout and just really enjoyed the entire day. There are a lot of fishing outfitters you can find when researching trips but I would highly recommend this company. Great people great service and really represent Montana well. read more

I can't speak highly enough about the experience of booking a trip and then fishing for two days with Montana Angler. Hank responded quickly to my emails during the planning and booking stage and then we adjusted the plans based on our wishes and the weather conditions -- cold and blustery. My fantasy was crisp, sunny October dry fly fishing but nature gave us crisp, cloudy, bug-less, windy nymph and streamer fishing which turned out to be a blast. Excellent customer service, great guide, fun fishing, beautiful scenery, an informative web site, and some good tips for fishing on our own. Looking forward to next year! read more
