Despite never having been to New Century Bar prior to a change in management, given what I've been…read moretold by previous patrons of this pub I would have to say that the new management have done a world of good. It was not as busy as I had expected a pub in Motherwell to be at 9 P.M. but the atmosphere was vibrant nonetheless, helped by a group of friendly locals at the bar who became loudier and funnier with each passing round. Football was shown on flatscreen TVs around the room with speakers providing music as a soundtrack. The lone barman was as nice as they come, and despite coming across as rather quiet and shy he was often involved in conversation with friendly drinkers at the bar and could be seen having a joke and a laugh with them. I can imagine weekends at New Century Bar have an atmosphere unmatched by most pubs in Motherwell. Live bands play on Saturday nights while Sundays host karaoke so I will definitely be coming back one weekend to test my theory and would recommend others in the area to consider doing the same.

My friend Lisa is a karaoke diva and loves to belt out a good tune, so once we knew that they did karaoke on Sunday evenings, we decided to head there. The bar was busy but spacious, with a really mixed crowd of people. Young and old sat together, people who looked like they would be more at home in the Cathouse mingled with tanned, blonde barbie doll lookalikes. It was quite a surreal crowd, the likes of which it's very rare to find. We had a great night and vowed to go back again, especially on karaoke night!

The 'Leccy bar is a great venue for parties, and I have frequented it many times in the past for…read more18th's, 21st's, 50th's and all sorts. The main function hall looks small but actually holds about 200 people, with plenty of seats and a good sized dance floor. It is just a typical pub hall, which could probably do with a bit of modernisation but then that adds to the charm of it, it isn't supposed to be a boutique bar, which is reflected in the cheap prices at the bar. They have even gone a little bit fancy and do cocktails. Hire of the hall is cheap and they let you in during the day to decorate. The buffet, which they can provide, is actually amazing, with a great selection of sandwiches, pakora and pizza and loads more. We even stuffed some in our handbags for munching in the taxi home! Out of the way of the clubs though so if you are going into Motherwell afterwards you might want to take a taxi!

I never really thought the day would come when I would review the Motherwell Point. Mainly because,…read morebefore it was refurbished and reopened last year, it was a complete dive, and known as a bit of a granny disco (sorry to any grannys out there, but it's true!) It reopened under the new, rather rubbish name of 'Skoosh' and has all of a sudden became the place to be in Motherwell, shunning the Megabar up the road. This place looks a lot like someone's living room at a house party, with stripy wallpaper and chrome wall art, with a teeny dance floor which is always dangerously packed out. The drinks are averagely priced, with no promotional deals that I have heard of, which kind of takes the shine off of it, although that may change for special occasions or events. Even though it is small, it has plenty of seating and you always manage to get a table if you're there early enough. The clientele are older; it is an over 21's club afterall, which makes it all the better in my book. I'd rather party with a 35 year old than a sleazy young 17 year old! You never see underagers in here, which is refreshing. The bar is well staffed and there are always loads of security, which is really reassuring. I actually quite like the place despite myself, and it's somewhere where I would consider going more often, if I'm too skint for town!
