I'm writing this review because of the price point that Horizon charged me for replacing my garbage disposal under my sink. I decided to buy the unit myself from Home Depot hoping to save some money. I paid $199 for the replacement unit. However, when the (nice/polite) technician arrived he charged $407 just to remove the old unit and install the new one, supposedly including the military discount and senior discount. If I had known this, I would've gone on you tube and done it myself. It took him about 35 minutes to complete the job, so that's basically $700/hr. That's disgusting and very unfair. Thats more than I ever made per hour and I'm a medical professional; saving lives every shift. Never again. Either shop around or learn the technique on you tube and do it yourself.

Price gouged. $900 to replace a single 90deg elbow in an easily accessible location for a gas supply line. During the home selling process, an inspection uncovered a minor leak at a 90deg elbow supplying gas to my water heater. I called BGE out, they shut off gas at our meter and said call a plumber. After calling a few plumbers, Google found me Horizon and I'm thankful they were able to come out same day. When the responding Tech arrived, I explained BGE confirmed the small leak, had shut off the gas, and pointed to the elbow. He grabbed a step ladder from his truck and within 45 mins had replaced the 1" elbow and departed. Bill was $900.

On a Friday afternoon, I reached out to ~5-7 vendors to assess a broken HVAC in a DC condo. Ricardo was able to come out IMMEDIATELY at 8PM on a Friday night. He did a quick dusting of the unit which hadn't been serviced in a while and even went to the roof as a part of his diagnosis. After sticking around for a couple hours trying to find the source of the problem, I was mentally preparing myself to pay a diagnosis and service fee, but there was no such thing. What signaled to me Ricardo was top notch was the fact that this man lives in Baltimore, easily a 50-minute commute from where I was in DC. He didn't leave until I was satisfied with his work until 930PM on a FRIDAY night. This type of service is difficult if not impossible to find. Ricardo patiently explained what the problem was, why I wouldn't have working AC after he would leave, and what my options were. He was very transparent with pricing, sent over a couple of quotes, and laid out what install schedules would look like depending on which manufacturer I went with. He and his team came in Tuesday and the install lasted about 7 hours. Fully working AC in less than 2 business days at a reasonable and competitive price. You cannot beat that.

This was kind of a nightmare experience for me. Our kitchen sink became clogged, and we called…read morethese guys in to take a look at it. We got a few estimates and theirs was the lowest, and the man I spoke to on the phone was extremely friendly and nice. When their workers got to our house, he spent a lot of time talking about how the pipes under our sink were installed poorly (to be fair, they definitely were). I told them that we were aware of that, but for right now we didn't have the money to re-pipe the whole thing and just wanted to unclog the drain. He said ok and started trying to unscrew the pipes. One of them broke (may or may not have been their fault), and he goes back to saying we should re-do the whole system. I asked how much it would be, and he said it would be several hundred dollars, so I again said no, and that I just wanted the drain unclogged. He said he'd have to get rid of the broken pipe, which I understand, but the next thing I know, they're down there with a sawzall and cutting out every piece of pipe under the sink. In a few seconds, there was nothing left under there at all! I was extremely upset, but the man just kept saying that it would have had to be done anyway, blah blah blah... I was so stunned I didn't even know what to say, besides "I already told you, I can't afford it!" So he said ok and got ready to leave, but then said "well, I'd hate for you to have to pay the fee for us to come out here without getting anything out of it, why don't we snake your drain anyway?" I said ok, and they did, but then admitted that they couldn't test whether or not it had worked since they had CUT OUT ALL THE PIPES. Then, they had the audacity to charge me more than I was quoted, for "extra work"-- I'm assuming the two seconds it took to cut out all my pipes. I did eventually get some (not all) of that money back, but really this was the worst experience I've ever had with a plumber. The only good that came of it was that, as I burst into tears on reading the bill, the plumber sighed and admitted that if we went to a hardware store we should be able to do the re-piping ourselves, which we did, though it took all weekend. A few final things: the owners (of which there are several--the plumber talked to at least 3 of them) seem to hire out contractors, and there didn't seem to be much love between them and the contractors. Overall, I would not recommend these guys at all.

I called them yesterday with a stopped up kitchen sink and they were here this morning and done in an hour. Very professional.
