Wouldn't you know it, I paid $235 to have them cleaned and X-rayed, then she sent me on my way without pulling the broken tooth. She apparently scheduled me for a follow-up cleaning, which I did not keep (I only wanted a $99 tooth extraction, not a freaking commitment) so she put me into collections over a bill for a missed appointment. I feel like such a chump. This was 5+ years ago I think. I hope she becomes a politician, she would fit right in.

We had left our long-time dentist due to a falling out over poor care and billing issues, and I didn't feel comfortable simply picking out an appropriate dentist out of the phone book. Upon our orthodontist's recommendation, we went to see Dr. Alcorn. My 13-year-old son was understandably anxious, but Dr. Alcorn's staff could not have been more considerate and understanding. They made him feel as comfortable as possible under the circumstances. They gave me the option to sit in on the procedure, but I didn't because my son absolutely forbid it. So I sat in the waiting area, wondering if he was doing okay. Dr. Alcorn came out to tell me that he did well, and was happy to answer the few questions I had. My son told me that his hygienist was "cool", which is high praise indeed from him! A week later, I took my son back for a checkup on the gums where his teeth had been removed, and to have the remaining adult molars sealed to help guard against future cavities. At the same time, I had my 10-year-old daughter in for her cleaning. Both kids said they liked the hygienists that were working with them. I will say this, Dr. Alcorn has a no-nonsense way about her. She is definitely not the "warm fuzzy" type, although her receptionist and her hygienists are. If you are a very sensitive individual that prefers to be coddled a bit, then Dr. Alcorn is probably not a good match for you. There are some highly regarded dentists in Charlottesville that specialize in sedated dentistry, that might prove a better fit. For my family, however, Dr. Alcorn and her staff turned out to be just what we needed!

They must have a new receptionist, as I see the review below shed some negative light on the office because of a bad one, but I had a great experience with the front desk that was quick and efficient. So don't let that scare you away. I met with Doctor Julia, the newest Bronson family member to be a dentist, and she was fantastic! She did a full check up of my teeth, jaw, and tongue/gums before running an x-ray as part of Phase I for the ALF orthontic treatment. I found her to be energetic, friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and overall a wonderful dentist. The whole family (dad, daughter, and son = family dream team!) was so nice and made me feel comfortable about the treatment schedule (12-24 months long), ensuring that I understood exactly what my diagnoses were in simple terms, as well as what the costs will be from beginning to end. I am excited to return to this office for my future treatments! Not to mention, the office in McLean is brand new, with all state of the art equipment ensuring for a modern and effective dental experience. Thanks, Doctor Julia!! See you again soon.

So I confirmed the appointment only to show up and find the business closed for the day after driving for an hour and missing work with a sick 1 year old. When I called she repeatedly sent my calls to fax and pretended she didn't remember who I was. Eventually she told me I had no appointment that day or any day that she could find (despite TWO calls by me confirming, one that morning). Just not worth the huge multiple hassles. Obviously I didn't make up having an appointment! She has a really really bad attitude and it ruins the whole business. I would never ever go back.

Dr. B worked with us to get him back on track and really advocated for my son's care with our insurance company when we needed to admit him for outpatient surgery to fix his cavity (it was necessary so he could be under full anesthesia due to his previous dental experience). That was 8 years ago and now all 3 of my kids go there and we love them! The whole office is kid friendly and makes dental appointments less scary. After being with Dr. B for so long, my son is no longer afraid of the dentist. They recently added another male dentist to the practice (I feel terrible that I can't remember his name right now) but my kids have seen him twice and he was great too. He made them laugh even when he had to fix a cavity.

She was scared... and his solution was to tell her he would have to "manually" force her to take it (as he started to put on gloves). This man is a monster, and I don't know how he has even one good review. My advice is to run - and be advised that he makes you pay for the procedure PRIOR to having it done. After this experience I took my daughter to my own dentist, who is a very nice woman, and she has never had a single issue. It makes me ill that this man advertises that he works with special needs children, and I would hate to see how he treats a child when the parent ISN'T in the room, after seeing how he behaved with me right there.
