Potatoes were burnt and bacon was so crispy it shatters when bitten into. Didn't eat either. I know the cook can see it's burnt, so why serve it? Especially when charging the most one could get away with charging for an egg sandwich.

Such an adorable spot! Wonderful baked goods and lovely coffees. This is a favorite spot to visit. My sister and I will stop and sit in the sunny dining area and enjoy baked treats or sometimes breakfast. I think this would be a wonderful place to arrange a meet up with a new friend, too.

Very cute small bakery vibes with limited seating, especially around brunch time on the weekend! I got the ham and havarti croissant (toasted). The flavor was good but the croissant was a little bit too too oily. I'd like to return to try the other very aesthetic items but the croissant was honestly just okay. Small parking lot so I did neighborhood street parking!

Three stars for its fantastic vibe and appearance of food. Went there several times recently for breakfast and lunch. It is a small cafe with a small menu (but lots of bakery stuff). Food tasted so-so; the portion size was super small. For example, the tuna melt croissant sandwich was no more than 1/3 of the croissant sandwich served in Pekara Bakery & Bistro... The best were breakfast sandwich and granola+yogurt. Because of the small sizes. their dishes were too pricey. So it's not very likely for me to come here often. What this restaurant does good at is its vibe and the appearance of the dishes. As soon as you walk into it, you are greeted with all kinds of small, colorful and lovely decor. Their restroom is painted pink, and had cute baskets etc. inside as well. Food is also served in a delicate, Ins-style way (except their tiny sizes). So in general this cafe is good for working and having simple breakfast/lunch, and perfect for taking photos, but not appropriate for having full meal.

Hopscotch is THE cutest bakery in the Champaign area! Their interior is always beautifully decorated and the speciality items are made to align with the season. The workers are always so kind and helpful with your every need. For food, I absolutely love their soft cinnamon rolls and flaky croissants which are 100% worth coming back for. On Valentine's Day, my boyfriend and I got to try the matcha panna cotta which was just melt in your mouth amazing! However, I would not recommend ordering from their all-day food menu, since they excel the most in their pastries and baked goods. They also offer options for custom made cakes which is something worth noting. As for drinks, I've tried their matcha horchata latte over the summer which tasted a bit water down, but they do have better and stronger coffee selections. A note to the wise-- there is very limited indoor seating and parking lot spaces, but options for street parking in the neighborhood. I would love to see this place expand to cater to the large audience it attracts since it has so much potential. Although Hopscotch is not necessarily the best for studying or sitting down to eat a full-on brunch, it's ideal for stopping by to pick up a delicious pastry every now and again!

Don't waste your money on Hopescotch cakes! I got an 8inch vanilla cake with matcha buttercream icing from Hopscotch. The cake looked great but it was THE worst experience in terms of flavor and texture. the cake sponge was clearly stale, very dense, and smelled really bad. The icing on the top was also so stiff that it fell apart when cutting the cake. I specifically asked the lady at the cashier that I want a fresh cake and this was far from being fresh. I didn't expect Hopscotch to sell this quality of cake. I felt really embarrassed in the party seeing everyone finding their way to the trash can to get rid of their slice. I have contacted the store and nobody responded, next step is to take the leftover cake to the store and ask the owner to try it out! Update: I stopped by the store and explained the problem; the manager was very rude and said she choose to refuse a refund because of my review! Customer service on par with cake quality! Interesting fact, when I was there to complain, the other two cakes from yesterday were still there waiting for the next poor customer. My party was ruined and I'm not getting a refund but I hope at least this review helps the next person

    Chocolate Croissant

The quality of the food at Hopscotch has gone down drastically over the years and I no longer believe in my glowing 5-star review from 2 years ago. Often, I think we assume what looks great would taste great, but hopscotch with its quaint interior and cute knick-knacks serves as a prime example that looks are deceiving. I've been going to hopscotch 2-3x a week just for their chocolate croissant. It certainly WAS the best in town: the buttery crust, gooey-exploding chocolate, and sea salt on top *chef's kiss*. Recently, I noticed the differences in the chocolate croissants. Some days, they were 1/2 size of what I would normally get. From this past weekend, the color of the chocolate croissants looked SEVERELY UNDERBAKED (photo attached in comparison with their regular chocolate croissant). Without giving it too much thought, I still took one to-go, only to find out that it was underbaked, and tasted so flour-y that I had to toss it. The other day, I ordered another chocolate croissant around 1 p.m. and couldn't help but notice that it tasted a day(s) old. I am not entirely sure if it was actually days old or if they overbaked it that day. However, the lack of quality control in this bakery is disappointing. Regardless of size, quality, and taste, I have stayed loyal and paid their set price of $6.14 because I assumed the bakery was having an off-day. However, when you encounter more than one or two instances of poor products, it's not "just" an off-day.

We stayed at the air bnb above this bakery and just had to try it. It's in a charming neighborhood in Champaign just a block off of Prospect Ave and across the street from Southside Elementary School. There's a small parking lot and plenty of street parking available. Inside you will find an adorable bakery and cafe. We went in around 9am on a Friday and the place was ours. There's seating available if you would like to enjoy your treats in house. We ordered carry out to share with some friends and family. 2 cinnamon rolls, 2 tomato and herb quiche, 2 bagels and cream cheese. I split a quiche and one of the jug ge cinnamon rolls with my husband. They were both well made and the cinnamon roll was delicious! I wish they had a few more savory breakfast items but their traffic might be lighter on weekdays..? They had some baked desserts that looked amazing and some unique drinks you won't find just anywhere like a brown sugar and fig latte. I also noticed hand made marshmallows! They sell specialty food items and gifts as well. This place is really cute and seems to have a little bit of everything. No matter who you are and what you're looking for Hopscotch has something for everyone. Stop in and check it out for yourself!

Very disappointed in Hopscotch. We ordered my daughter's graduation cake for $300. It looked beautiful. We expected it to taste decent at minimum. It was tasteless, dry and felt like 3 days old. Could not believe something that looked so good tasted so bad. We were recommended to go there by my daughter who went to school there at UofI. She was just as disappointed in them. Then there was order delay issue. At first they said would be delivered in the AM, barely got there in time for dinner !!! Could not get anyone on phone. Only over email or text. Very unprofessional!!! If I would of read reviews first about this place I would of never ordered from here. Save your money. It looks amazing. But tastes horrible !!!

This is a neighborhood place. Friendly staff, homey atmosphere, walkable from the neighborhood. Small parking lot but people inside so they must have walked. Just enough baked goods and other items to have a good selection. Chocolate croissant had a sprinkle if salt. Mocha was good. Lots of charm!

    Iced Americano & Tiramisu
    Runzer W.

I ordered a cup of iced Americano and Tiramisu to go. The vibe inside was pretty cozy, which might be a nice spot for study and chatting. I especially love the Tiramisu, which I think is the best in town! The coffee was strong and might be dark roasted as my favorite. Nice and friendly service as well. I would be more excited if it expands its opening period and adds more parking spaces!

They also had chocolate chip cookie sandwiches, frosted sugar cookies, cake pops and slabs of frosted cake to go. There was just so much sugary goodness everywhere I looked. We picked up a variety pack of cupcakes to go, and my kids loved them. The cupcakes are more on the smaller side, which is great with me because they are so rich -- you really only need two or three bites and you're satisfied. The frosting on the cupcakes tastes like it's a buttercream base. The cupcakes are meticulously decorated -- all of them had a sprinkling of edible gold, so it felt that much more elevated. Fancy cupcakes! If you want to make a big impression on someone, gifting a cupcake or two from this place will do the trick.

We got the Oreo, red velvet, and a big slice of chocolate cake with white frosting, which was my personal favorite. The cake texture was at once moist & fluffy.. The ratio of frosting to cake = A+. Service was super friendly and parking was easy (they have a lot).

Always in pursuit of "off the beaten path" gems you can often find in places in small town Indiana,…read morethe Red Room Cakery fits that bill. Prairieton....small township, population maybe 1300...maybe, 12 minutes from the south side of Terre Haute. Discovered on a Facebook post indicating a "pop-up from 10am-2pm" on the Sunday we showed up, the Red Room Cakery is actually wholesale and not normally open to the public. Lots of cake displays and brag books about, cakes are clearly this guys jam, in addition to the baked goods he sells thru restaurants in a 50 miles radius of his Prairieton ovens. And by "this guy," I am referring to Chef J who is here this day with his side kick employee Olivia. And don't underestimate Olivia and her shy demeanor, as a current student of Purdue's hospitality program and an award winning cake baker from a 4-H event not so long ago, she knows her way around a baked good. I always say "behind every good man is a better woman" and that be Olivia in this case. Chef J could not be more of a sweeter teddy bear type personality if he tried. Kind of a bit unexpected considering that this spot is not normally open to the public, which really means "I have enough business and I would rather not deal with the public." But on this day and in this moment of this pop-up that I show up with my aging folks from Terre Haute, we were treated with real midwestern hospitality...the kind that I have forgotten about living on the west coast and in giant urban cities around the planet. I tend to drill down hard to get to the meat of a business or a person, so after grilling this overgrown teddy bear a bit, Chef J is explaining to me his military career (thank you for your service!) and how he got into cooking before he is inviting me around the back to see the action of the kitchen. The smell of hot sugar and yeast coming from an oven, painting a glaze of a gooey cinnamon concoction on top of the twists baked just so, the perfect amount of flaky crust and mildly doughy center to make this twist Mid-westernly delish. We are consuming one right on the spot before we depart. Some lava cakes for good measure, we walk out with some items to enjoy at home and happy to have made the acquaintance of Chef J and Olivia. And those lava cakes.... Keep in the frig vs the counter and then pop in the microwave for about 30-40 seconds....incredible! Really delicious. The actual establishment is again not normally open, so I am appreciating this unicorn moment. There is no hot coffee option, music chiming in or even many places to sit. Nothing about this spot says "hang out/linger." Rumor has it that Chef J tried pizza for awhile and it just did not catch on. What I clearly know and the greater Praireton area does not....bakers make the best pizzas because the dough is always exceptional. But anyway.... I consider the Red Room Cakery and our unique moment to visit and buy some baked goods moment a big win and really enjoyed taking the trip over from Terre Haute. Chef J is celebrating 10 years of being in business this summer. I am on the look out during all visits now moving forward when in Terre Haute to see if the baked goods served at an eatery come from the Red Room Cakery. Because there they are a little bit delicious and a little bit Midwestern, which makes the perfect baked good in my eyes.

Owner was very down to earth and honest with his suggestions. Also we got to sample a few things, so that's always a plus. We started by checking everything out, the inventory was low but still a few options. Sampled a couple of ice creams. Ended up getting a Muncher cup is what i think they were called. Two scoops of ice cream with a cupcake. Another member of our party got a muffin they enjoyed, then our last memeber got a single cupcake and drink. The owner gave us a brownie on the house too. Ended up eating inside and watching a little bit of a cooking show that was on. Along with chatting with the owner. All in all if you want a great environment and treat this is the place to go. Was updated that they will be serving beer and wine soon. Also at some point will be doing soups and sandwiches. I'm sure this business will do great if they keep up the good work!
