We wanted to create a drought-tolerant garden in our front yard and hoped to get a rebate from the DWP for removing our large lawn.I didn't want any succulents and I wanted lots of color. I found Erin online and last November, she and her team transformed our front yard into a paradise! She worked with us to create exactly what we were looking for. She designed the garden so that different plants bloom in different seasons. Spring was amazing and now that we're in July, everything is lush and full. Our neighbors stop by on their walks to see what's blooming today. The birds, Hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies are incredibly happy! We have constant entertainment when we look out our kitchen windows! The icing on the cake? We got our DWP rebate, too! I have always wanted a flower garden front yard. I have been trying to do it myself and I wasn't getting very far. I decided to get some help. Erin and her team helped rescue and transform my garden into a beautiful charming oasis. In spring I had utilized a different landscaping company to get rid of artificial turf and help turn my front and back yard into a garden with mostly native plants. Unfortunately the result was disappointing : the plants the other company recommended were unsuitable and the layout was very unpleasant; many of the plants didn't survive the summer. I have noticed that many landscaping companies are only interested in the "hard scape" and don't really know about planting or how to create planting layouts that are sustainable and ecologically appropriate . Their interest seems to be to place quick growing boxwood hedges/ other utilitarian plants that can be clipped and blown every 1-2 weeks with least fuss. I called Erin for help knowing that I wanted my yard to look a certain way but not sure how to accomplish it. Erin immediately understood my goals and shared my vision for a pollinator friendly garden with native plants and created a charming layout . She invited me to collaborate with her on plant selection and helped to select plants that would thrive . She has great communication skills and I really appreciated her positive attitude and enthusiasm for my project. Erin is an experienced professional who cares about achieving the best outcome for her clients: she rescheduled the planting when it looked like the weather was unfavorable rather than just get it over with . Her team started working the day after Thanksgiving and were extremely efficient at removing dead plants, planting new ones and mulching the slope. They also rearranged the irrigation to support the new plants. Finally Erin was able to find me a special guava tree for my yard. Erin knows how to garden but our interactions since the beginning were off. Erin failed to set expectations on numerous occasions. She would subcontract work out without our knowledge and send us a bill for $500 to time sprinklers. We asked the person that installed the sprinklers why it cost $500 to adjust the timing and he was shocked by the large price tag. We confronted Erin and she acted overly emotional and insisted that she didn't mark up the price of sprinkler repair. After this interaction, all of our plants died after spending thousands of dollars to Erin on getting the garden going. We hired a third party to look at the sprinkler systems and the third party revealed to us that a 30 day pause timer had been placed on the sprinklers just before we went out of town. Erin refused to give us a break on the sprinkler bill and hounded us for all bills that we did not pay the same day they were presented. We waited a few days to pay a bill and she sent us emails that she had a "sinking feeling" that we were not going to pay. On top of this, should we take a long time to send us our bills. I feel like expectations could have been set much more clearly. Especially since Erin would sub out her work, an estimate would have been helpful. All in all, this situation has simply been weird and I shouldn't have to be faced with drama with a gardener. read more

I don't begrudge you making money I understand that is why I overpaid for your plants just thought there would be some customer service. Here is my story: I am a science professor who moved from New Jersey to the San Fernando Valley over forty years ago. We found Erin through a neighbor's posting on the Nextdoor community website, and we loved what she had posted on her Facebook page about the numerous reasons for installing a California-friendly drought-tolerant yard to replace our lovely but unnecessary front lawn. From the initial contacts through the final product, the entire experience has been a delight. Erin was very responsive in the initial planning stages, then she came to see our yard to hear our ideas and to educate us about low-water yards. Next she generated a terrific initial design, I sent back some proposed revisions, and we agreed upon a plan. As others have posted here, she shared some Pinterest pages with us to review to share our preferences with her, which was an efficient and helpful method for seeing the possibilities. She and her crew were polite, hard working, and thorough during the installation. They tore out all the turf, converted the sprinklers to drip irrigation, and laid down weed barriers before planting the plants, laying the thick mulch, and laying a beautiful stone walkway to the front entryway. In addition to installing low plants on the parkway and a huge variety of drought-tolerant plants in the front yard, she replaced our old rose bushes with lower-water bushes, landscaped a hopeless side-yard strip with native grasses and flowering plants, and created a succulent garden in a dead space between our garage and our neighbor's garage. She moved our mini-palms to the back yard where they'll now fit in better, and she'll install a couple of baby trees in the front yard once they arrive. All in all, it's been a delight upgrading our yard, and we couldn't recommend Erin and Hope Gardens any more highly! read more
