Side Cosmik Fries and Appetizer Sampler

Came back and the food quality wasn't as good. The service was mid and they weren't attentive to my needs.

Sunday afternoon at 1:30, the place was dead but yet our food came out cold. Not impressed with their brunch food whatsoever and the cleanliness of the place leaves something to be desired. There is a coating of dust on everything, so don't look up; and cobwebs too, ugh. Our server was nice enough, but kept filling my 'water, no ice' from a pitcher of water with ice. Won't be coming back here.

Wow I was surprised by how packed it was for a Tuesday night. The entire packing lot was full! Thank god my friends and I made a reservation. It took awhile for our ciders to get to us. We got: - honeycrisp cider: it tasted like apple nice and I wish there was more carbonation. - chicken Caesar wrap with cosmik fries: I enjoyed this a lot! I will say that the portion is actually a little smaller than the wraps in NYC. I paid the $1 to have the salad become a wrap and for the fries. However my friends and I were surprised that they charged $0.60 for a side of ranch lol. - supper club wrap: I tried my friend's and I prefer the chicken Caesar! This turkey and cheese seemed like grocery store slices.

No wait at noon on Sunday. I had w people in my party. We had water and a delicious spicy bloody mary within minutes. I ordered an order of Cosmik fries and a Cobb salad with Romaine instead of mixed greens. My guest had lobster macaroon and cheese. She loved it. Portions were very generous. Compostela straws and to go containers got a bit soggy.

After a short wait, we were seated and our waiter greeted us with a smile. This place has a large beer section but they were out of a few of our first choices, thus the 4 stars. I enjoyed a honey crisp beer and others had a Marquette IPA and a dark beer. To start, we had the cheese curds which were crispy cubes of gooey cheese served with a ranch style dressing. Get the cheese curds- you won't regret it! My Caesar salad came with a nice serving of chicken breast. The grilled cheese was crispy and oozing with cheese. The Nashville Hot Sandwich with Kosmic fries was also good. All in all, an enjoyable experience!

Hopcat has been a go to for years. Their fries are too good, Cosmik Fries are a must have always! They've really elevated their cocktail offerings in the last few years, everything has been delicious. I tried their espresso martini last visit, Presto Espresso...SO GOOD. Their Mac and Cheese was phenomenal and way more filling than anticipated. My only complaint would be the to go containers. The compostable boxes are not pasta friendly and most of the box ended up getting stuck in the food when reheating. This is a great spot to meet up with friends. Despite being known for their adult drinks, they're very kid friendly and the arcade is a great way to keep kids entertained while waiting on food.

I am much older than the normal demographics and been eating out as long as those in it been on earth so I was not impressed and so was my brunch lunch eating out group. The food was average at best especially the Mac and Cheese I had. Another complained that the bacon on her sandwich was under cooked. Only was the fries was a hit. Service was below average by not coming back enough to check on the table and also had to remind about refills and take home boxes. A star was taken off for that. I always take off a star off for Pepsi products instead of Coke products. While it is easy to get to and plenty of parking, I won't be back. I have been to this chain for 3 times. Don't need to come again.

Now that I have been here about 4 times, I wanted to share some thoughts. I like Hopcat! The large spaces open and bright with many windows. There is very nice outdoor seating and I have to mention that the bathrooms were updated well and they are cared for. I have ordered mostly apps, burgers and the fish and chips! I really do enjoy the fish and chips with the crispiness and the generous portion and what seems like homemade tartar sauce! Very good! the onion rings are fried to perfection and the pretzel nuggz are a nice shareable. The burgers are very good! Juicy, flavorful and many ways to order with different cheeses and various toppings. Each time I have visited Hopcat, the service has been splendid! I have also brought a large group and the service did not suffer, it was quite efficient. I will continue to return here. It's very pleasant.

I am glad that I ordered the savoury mac and cheese.

Weeks before the announcement, a friend and I were discussing potential replacements for Claddagh, left empty since Dec 2019. I loved Claddagh and will miss its fish and chips and Reuben sandwiches. I thought either Jolly Pumpkin or Hopcat would be a good replacement given the interest in microbreweries. I was pleased to see that Hopcat would open up even though I've never been to any of its locations - I guessed right! I waited impatiently for the opening and was in the neighborhood (at Mitchell's) when the soft opening was taking place. Like everyone else, I had heard about the fries and was eager to try them. The restaurant was partially full when I arrived after the lunch rush but there was still a wait. A slight one for me but others had longer ones. Whereas Claddagh was very dark and had numerous rooms, as expected of an Irish pub, Hopcat is bright and cavernous. Garage doors at the front open up to a patio. Despite the sunny, summer day, the doors were not open nor was anyone dining out. A bar is at the center of the main dining area. It had the requisite TVs and was surrounded by numerous high tops. Booth seating was available along the sides of the space. Along the perimeter of the restaurant are low tops. There is another room in the back. I ordered the elotes to start. I love elotes and was excited to try this restaurant's version. I found it to be very dense, overcooked even, tasting more like a flourless corn cake, than a dip. I did not enjoy it. I also thought the fries were overrated. The seasonings on them were tasty but the fries were a bit dried out. The burger, however, was delicious. There were 8 on the menu, including vegan and turkey. I went with the Hangover Helper which included a perfectly fried egg, lovely bacon strips, and a hash brown. Hash brown, oh, happy days! I also ordered mac and cheese as a side. I didn't see it on the menu but my server indicated it was available. The cup of mac was coated in a savory cheese sauce and quite yummy. I liked the server. I thought she was pleasant and informative and I noted that she hopping. There seemed to be a lot of people hanging around the hostess stand but not a ton of servers throughout the restaurant.

I have loved HopCat since college days in East Lansing! Over time the menu has changed but I felt the food remained great, until now. We got the rodeo and cowboy burgers for pick up. Online ordering was very easy and customizable with exceptional staff at the host stand. It was busy when I picked up however I was helped fast and easy. Despite the location being great and actual restaurant nice and clean. The food was just not good. Those burger Pattie's seemed to be frozen grocery store burgers. There was absolutely no flavor and they weren't cooked well at all. There wasn't much for the toppings on the burgers despite us getting burgers with several toppings. The fries were pretty good however not cooked fully. Sad day when HopCat burgers aren't good anymore. Hopefully things will change in the future so we can return

Love the atmosphere in this HopCat!! I've been to the Royal Oak, Detroit and East Lansing one and I think this one might be my new fav. We sat at the bar and ordered food up there as well. We really loved our bartender Jeremy! So personable & friendly. Side note I really wish the cheese ale soup would make a come back

Lone Lights is a place that makes their own spirits, which you can purchase, and also sample with a menu that rotates seasonally. Their drinks are unique and provide a variety of things to experiment with for flavors. There is a membership you can buy that gives you a coaster, discounts off drinks and merch, and access to events. The bar atmosphere is great and I look forward to summer when they can open up the doors and we can spread out a little bit more. The bar isn't huge inside so it can crowd at busy times, but the staff hustles and are all super friendly. It's a favorite for almost everyone in our neighborhood!

This is a perfect place for apps/drinks! A few of my girlfriends and I spent NYE night here, early on in the evening and it was wonderful. The bartenders treated us so special and we loved the vibe. There's live music on certain nights which we were happy to experience while we were there! I highly recommend this spot for a gathering with friends or intimate date because the atmosphere is on point! This is also right next to the Sidecar Slider Bar which features a bit less expensive drinks and more of a sports bar vibe so although they are very different it was super fun to spend time at both in one night and have two totally different experiences!

From Retro Bliss to Corporate Miss - 1Up's New Management Hits Rock Bottom…read more.. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. 1Up Arcade Bar, once my go-to haven for arcade nostalgia and friendly vibes, has devolved into a shell of its former self. Under the new management, the experience has gone from retro joy to something resembling a garish corporate money pit. If you're looking to relive the good old days of arcade glory, consider this your neon-lit warning sign to stay far, far away. First off, the bartenders. Remember last year when 1Up's bartenders were warm, cheerful, and chatty, making you feel like you were part of the family? Well, those days are deader than my high score on Pac-Man. The new bartenders treat you with the exact enthusiasm you'd expect from someone waiting at the DMV. Ordering a drink here feels like you've personally interrupted their day--and heaven forbid you ask any questions about the menu. Smiles? Gone. Friendly banter? Vanished. You're left standing there with your overpriced, uninspired drink wondering if you've wandered into a soulless high-end cocktail bar by mistake. Ah, the drinks. Once playful and creative masterpieces that added to 1Up's charm, they've been replaced with pretentious, unimaginative concoctions that scream, "We're fancy now; please empty your wallet." No fun, no spirit (pun intended), just overpriced disappointments. At their current price point, I half expected the drink to come with complimentary resentment from the staff. And don't get me started on the arcade machines. Gone are the iconic retro classics that made me feel like I'd stepped back into the golden age of arcades. Instead, the place is now stuffed with bright, flashy, wallet-draining horrors you'd find at a Dave and Buster's. What happened to the charm? The authenticity? Now it's just a playground for toddlers with no attention spans and those who value flashing lights over actual gameplay. Speaking of, if you're a Gen Z-er armed with your parents' credit card and an inability to go three seconds without dopamine overload, this place might actually be a dream come true for you. The rest of us? Not so much. Look, 1Up Arcade Bar used to be a gem, but now it feels like a soulless cash grab. Don't come here hoping for a genuine arcade bar experience because you'll leave disappointed--and poorer. Save your time, save your money, and spare yourself the heartbreak of seeing what this place has become. RIP, old 1Up. You are sorely missed.
