Horrible customer service. One guy is rude any time he talks to me. They do not want to help me achieve my goals.

I found myself needing to rent a U-Haul truck and this was the most convenient place for me to do…read moreso. It is located off of the beaten path a bit and is very close to the Southern Dunes area. This a a local family owned franchise. I was able to make my reservation online. They have a small fleet, but good variety of trucks. The rental process was easy, but they really try to push the insurance for the truck. Even rental car places have stopped trying to push it. The lady working that day was very nice. They rent many other things, in addition to U-Hauls, including trailers, heavy lawn equipment, generator, party stuff, pressure washer, backhoes, ladders, stump grinders, bounce houses, sno cone machines, pop corn machines, and power tools. They have just about everything. You can rent their equipment in either 4-Hour, 24-Hour, weekly or monthly blocks. I rented my truck in a 4 hour block. So I was in and out. No time to dilly dally. If you go into the building, it has stuff all over the place, but it not cluttered to the point where you cannot move around. Also, note that you may walk in and there be no one attending the store. It happened to me a couple of times. They will eventually be back. They only have a few people working, most of the time there is only one and they may be out checking out equipment or doing something else. If you rent a truck just beware that the closest gas station is now at the corner of Southport and Bluff Roads (about a mile and a half away). This place is a decent option to take care of your rental needs. I will definitely keep them in mind if and when I need to rent some heavy equipment.

(The following experience occurred at the Greenfield location but may be applicable to this…read morelocation as well) Very disappointed in K&R toolshed. I have rented 5-6 times from them over the past few years. The Saturday before Labor Day weekend 2021 I went in to rent an Aerator from them. It was towards the end of the day and the employee I was speaking with said that I would have to pay the full day rate (about $115) or I would have to have the Aerator back in 50 minutes if I wanted to pay the 3 hour rate because they were closing. I pointed out that I only needed it for about 3 hours. I also pointed out that they could look at my past rental history to verify that this is about how long I had used this piece of equipment on past rentals. I asked to speak to the manager and was told that he was the manager (big guy with a beard and glasses, I didn't catch his name.) The guy again said that I could either pay the full rate or have the Aerator back in 50 minutes (obviously wouldn't work as I live 20 minutes from this place so round trip would give me 10 minutes to use it.) I pointed out that it was too expensive and not worth it to me to pay the 1 day rate when I only needed it for 3 hours (about $56 for the 3 hour rate.) While I was in the lobby speaking with the manager a second employee came into the lobby and started interjecting into the conversation stating that I was talking in circles and that I wasn't going to get "a break" so I should either pay the day rate or leave. I was honestly shocked and was about leave after being spoken to like that and said "Wow I guess I can just go to Home Depot next time. I don't know, maybe my business doesn't matter to you guys?" (I am not a high end customer, not a professional contractor, but I have rented from them on a fairly regular basis.) Honestly the thing that bothered me the most was what I perceived to be very poor businesses sense on the managers part. Flabbergasted, I said "I don't understand, on the one hand you can either let this machine sit in your warehouse over the weekend and generate no revenue (and lose a customer) or you can rent it to me for a fair price (I agreed to pay the 4 hour rate) and be making money with it." I said "I just can't imagine a business owner would choose the first option." The manager then said that that was the direction he had been given by the owner (who he said was his father in law.) I asked him if I could speak to the owner because I just couldn't imagine a successful business owner who would see this situation and make that choice. The manager called his father in law, the owner, and put him on speaker phone. I explained to the owner the above information and to his credit he agreed to rent the Aerator for the 4 hour rate which I felt was fair enough and I agreed. Fast forward to Monday (according to my religious beliefs I try to avoid working on Sunday and didn't aerate the grass on Sunday, we also didn't want the grass to be full of mud plugs for our Labor Day barbecue.) We had a great Labor Day with friends and family and took advantage of our lawn. Then, in the evening I Aerated our lawn in both the front and backyards and then cleaned the Aerator, (made sure it was spotless.) Tuesday morning (They we're not open Sunday or Monday on Labor Day) at 9:23a I promptly returned the Aerator (Time frame to return it was before 930a Tuesday.) When I dropped it off I shook the same managers hand as he helped me unload it from my vehicle. He then said, "We discussed it, me, the other manager from the other location, and the owner (sounds like they are all family) and we are not going to rent to you again." I said, "Ok do you mind explaining why?" He said "Because you threw a baby fit and we don't want to rent to you." I said "Ok that's fine." I am very disappointed at this business and this experience has left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I will say that this is the first time that I have had issues with this place, but after this experience I would not recommend K&R toolshed to others. This is really too bad because I would have preferred to give my business to a locally owned business rather than a big box store. If you choose to come here I hope your experience is better than mine.

Unfortunately, had a bad experience and it just seemed like bad communication between departments…read more The guys in the shop were really nice and helped me pick out what I needed when I was there. However, when it came to delivery my order was over 2 hours late and they only sent it out after I called for the third time without any notifications or updates that they would be late, the dispatcher let me know after I called that the original truck broke down. Then for pickup I called 3 times before I was sent to a dispatcher who finally got a pickup scheduled days later than my original pickup time. The first two times the person who answered the phone seems annoyed that I called and just said "we're busy" and did not give me a pick up number or anything. The dispatcher told me that she never notification that the pickup was ready. Additionally, when I asked ove the phone if the extra time would be charged or if it was on them, one of the shop employees said I would have to pay based on when it was picked up. I now know that wasn't true but it really stressed me out because I was completely left out stranded and had to stay home from work for 2 days to wait for them to do the pickup and had no idea when and if they would actually come. I spent $150 each way for delivery and I only live 10 minutes down the road. The whole point was I needed things to be timely. I would rate the shop experience 4/5 and the delivery experience 0/5. While I would absolutely rent from them again, I'm never doing delivery. The equipment was in good working order and the delivery driver was nice and helpful when he did get there.

I have started to take on bigger projects around my house and this past weekend it was time to tear out a cement patio and replace it. I wanted to figure out the quickest and easiest way to do and I needed a Jack hammer. After browsing all my tool rental options this not only seemed reliable, but by far more affordable. In comparison, the HD would require a $350 deposit for a $90 rental. I believe I spent a total of $133 on a Jack hammer, 2 chisel picks, and a wheel barrel. Best part was, I got a refund on a chisel pick without even asking. They asked me if I had used both, which I hadn't, and they just refunded me. I loved that!! The employees are all incredibly friendly and helpful here! Like I said, I was a bit uneasy at first, but once I started talking to someone, I was feeling much better. Overall great employees, good prices, and reliable tools!!
