Went here for the first time to see one of my favorite bands: The Plot in You. If I could give this venue zero stars I would. When we arrived at 8pm (an hr after the show started) there was already a line snaking around the building, and an employee of the venue told us there were already hundreds of people inside (venue definitely broke their fire code, we looked it up). The line moved extremely slow - the employees weren't scanning tix but instead reading off of a paper list, also the venue was already so packed there was literally no room for any new patrons to stand. We were actually in line so long we missed the first two bands playing that night, and half of the set of the third band - and we were offered no refunds on our tickets. I saw a few people leaving angrily in the parking lot for the same reason.. My rum and coke I ordered at the bar was over $20 (and it was house rum)... We eventually pushed our way to get through the doorway of the space where the bands were playing just enough to be out of the way of people coming and going from the room. We felt so claustrophobic and the space felt very unsafe due to the place being way over capacity. It was very very hot inside which was expected but not to the extent of over 100 degrees, but I wasnt prepared for the people around me's sweat to fall/drip on me - again, packed like sardines: otherwise that wouldn't have been happening. Oh, and forget about being able to go back out to the bar to get another over priced drink. There was no staff to help patrons in and out of the space. I will say the bartender that gave me my $20 rum and coke was pleasant. This will be the first and last time we go to this venue. Shame on management for over selling and overall putting a lot of people in an unsafe space read more

I read a lot of negative reviews about Hooligans and was very reserved in going to the venue HOWEVER, we went to the Hinder show last night Oct 26,2021 and the place was fantastic! Of course its not a massive amphitheater or huge concert hall its a small one that is perfect for who and what they deliver as far as expectations for said establishment. 1) Entry and security Long line for a show - that is normal and the line was average for the size of the place, no issue with that at all for it moved quickly. Security was professional and conducted themselves as such! They were thorough and that is there job! Good on them! 2) Appearance and accessibility Was definitely not a Ritz-Carlton but guess what!?! It was what you should expect for a small business in Jacksonville NC! I loved how you had an area out front in order to escape the noise and have a conversation. The bathrooms were the appropriate size and I had no issues with them at all. I saw a man in a wheel chair inside and the place is more than in compliance for access for folks who may need it. 3) Service and Internal Security Service was amazing! We had the pleasure of being served by two female bartenders in the music hall and they were fast, accurate, and very polite considering the volume! We sat in the VIP section and had a bartender come by and check on us every few minutes! It was fantastic! Prices are not bad at all for a club! Of course you get plastic cups because lets be real folks - glass would be everywhere if they tried to serve in said containers. Security was great! One guy looked like he hated life but the others were professional and courteous. Overall I would recommend this place for a good show and a good time! Its Rock and Roll people! Deal with it! Rock on Hooligans!!! read more

This was only my second time ever going to this particular bar and venue. Last time was over a decade ago. First impression loved the plant life in the courtyard. The magnolia tree will soon have the prettiest flowers. The security personal looked at me strange and said ohh well. When I informed him that I can not go through metal detectors or use the wand. As I have an implantable device. I told him bottom half is ok to wand. But he just put it down on the table and said ok then. Like he's never had someone not be able to go though. Inside the bar was clean looking. Noice was loud but to be expected. The lady bartender made me such an awesome drink. I asked for something fruity. It was prepared and mixed perfectly. I enjoyed the well balanced drink. We had front row tickets to see hellsapoppin. It was the best tshoe. Great view. Seats hurt the butt after sitting on them for a few hours. I would def go to this bar again to see another show. read more

I had a wonderful time at this venue tonight for a showcase. The staff were very friendly and the space was clean and set up in to three big rooms. The bathroom were clean and drinks were good. Not to mention, the great looking bouncers! read more

Ignore the old bad reviews. We've been here for multiple shows. Security makes me feel safe. Drinks taste great. The band we've seen have put on fun shows and typically do meet and greets after. We have even brought our kids! Give Hooligans a chance. We didn't go here the first few years we lived here because poor word-of-mouth. Well, that info was wrong. Looking forward to the next show! read more

Oh J-ville, the limited places we have to circulate landed us back at Hooligans. I have to say, that although they wand you (girls) and pat you down (boys) at the door, the place isn't half as bad as I seem to expect. Didn't see any on the floor brawls or completely inappropriate shenanigans. If you slip in before midnight ladies, there's no cover and if the bar tender's in a good mood, he'll pour a generous shot. Not too much happening on a Friday night (guess it wasn't payday). The talented dancers of last time's adventures were no where to be found. This time there was more open dance floor and skeevie sideline watchers than the norm. At least this provides me with adequate dance space (yeah, please don't encroach.) Can't complain too much about this place. Was able to catch a taxicab asap so I didn't have to freeze while waiting in the shady parking lot. read more

Went here for a concert on Sunday. Only complaint is that they were about 20 minutes late opening the doors, the security checkpoint was pretty slow, and it was really hot and humid. But once inside the a/c was awesome. The acoustics in the stage area were great. Staff was nice. Bartenders and server was cute. Bathroom is kind of small but luckily it wasn't too busy. I'll definitely will go back. read more

Seeing a show there is a debacle thanks to all the drunken marines who don't care if they spill drinks on you, or run into you and cause you to spill your own drink, and/or, openly smoke cigarettes inside the venue space when thats not allowed and sucks for those around them who don't smoke. Drinks are okay, but are over priced for the quality- cheap plastic cups and weak pours. One of the bartenders that I ordered a shot from tonight pocketed a dollar of my change right in front of me (ordered a $5 fireball, gave her a 20, she gave me back $14 since she took a bill and shoved it into her front pocket without even asking). Unprofessional and technically that's stealing since I didn't personally tip her yet/she likely doesn't tell her boss. I was going to call her out but didn't feel like dealing with it. Visual and sound quality of shows isn't too bad. I've seen Waka Floka there in the past, and tonight I saw Riff Raff. The lighting effects were cool, but the sound level is insanely loud, though not too diluted. Don't even try standing up front unless it's your absolute favorite artist/band of all time, because you will get shoved and pushed, drinks poured on you, and have to deal with Marines moshing or fighting. You can see just fine from the sides and the back. Parts of the floor were also slick from people just dropping drinks and bottles like idiots and no one on the staff bothering to clean it. A dude in the VIP section (aka an elevated Grandma looking fenced in area beside the main floor), popped a bottle of champagne and proceeded to spray everyone within 10 feet (including me), for no reason, and during a song that wasn't even hype. I left smelling like overpriced bubbly and regret. Bathrooms are small and dingy (2 stalls in the ladies room that don't lock). Parking isn't too bad (no fee), although it can fill up depending on who's performing. It's been about 2 years since I last visited Hooligans, and now I remember why I don't very often even though I'm a local and live within minutes of the place. Unless they get a really popular artist again, I probably won't ever be back. read more

Good selection of micro-brewed beer. Attracts too many kids. And murders. lol. Neat fact is that it's the only bar in Jacksonville (maybe even all of Onslow?). Meaning, you don't need to have membership. There is a retarded law in NC that "outlawed" bars (it requires "bars" to be "private clubs" and enforce memberships) and this is the last remaining bar... but a friend said they might have changed that law in the last couple years... can't find anything on it! read more

We had come for my sister's birthday . We had fun up until this drunk guy kept bother my sister . We had told their security guy about it , he said he would handle it but failed to . So the guy bothered her one last time . So she told if he kept up that was going to use her lawful right to defend herself . The security guy came over and told her she can't do anything til he swings . Which if I might add that's against the law ! Just saying . I would not recommend this place for security reasons other than that it was fun . Got to meet one of the bands and had a great time til the situation happened . But still piss poor security. read more

I called Hooligans to inquire about a show coming to their venue. Their voicemail states that the best way to reach them is with a Facebook message so I sent the message and someone responded quickly and asked how they could help. I asked if they would accomodate a handicapped person or someone with physical limitations, who would require a chair or some sort of seating for the show. I waited two days and got no reply until I wrote again and asked if they were able to get any information. Another two days passed with no reply from Hooligans. I wrote again, this time frustrated, asking for a simple yes or no to my request. I could see that my messages had been read and thought it was incredibly unprofessional that they would not respond. I finally received a short response that was unhelpful. I asked if they could provide us with chairs again (this was still unanswered) and they (person unknown) wrote "Yes there is seating". I replied, that Tickeyfly says this show is standing room only. I never heard from Hooligans again and therefore, did not purchase tickets to the show. I've never seen a venue who does not accommodate handicapped people. I've also never seen a venue who is so unhelpful to people who want to give them business. I don't know who was answering the Facebook messages because they did not disclose their name, but they were completely useless. I tried to call the venue several times in hopes to speak with a manager as I really wanted to attend this show, but no one would answer or return my voicemail. What a poor establishment. read more

SO SHADY! STAY AWAY! This is by far the creepiest, most disgusting bar I've EVER been to. They took my husband's expensive pocket knife and now claim that they "don't know where it went". BS. They definitely stole it and by the looks of this place, they probably sold it for drugs. They also tried to give him SOMEONE ELSE'S cheaper pocket knife thinking that would make up for it! All the while, they were getting pissy at my husband because he just wants his knife back. Yeah, that's great customer service right there. They've lied so many times about the "laws" they enforce claiming that they can take someone's personal property and just not give it back. Yeah, that's called stealing you idiots. I've been to bars in at least 6 different states in my life (including others in Jville), and not once have I been wanded on my way in. It's probably because all they want to do is steal your stuff. No wonder so many fights break out here. The bouncer is the shadiest creep and I'm still trying to figure out why this place would employ him if they want people coming back to their bar. Clearly, the manager has no moral standards and will just hire any cracked out bum off the street. They try really hard to make it look nice, but really it just looks like a creepy, dingy dump. Also, the bartender pays no attention to the few patrons this place does have. She just seemed rude, impatient and honestly, dumb. So your best bet is to just stay far far away from this place. read more

I was so disappointed that I was literally the only female on that dance floor tonight. I left to go home at midnight because the DJ played nothing but ghetto rap music that we've all heard a million times. It's a dance hall! That's why I go there. To dance. If the music sucks, there's no point in going. Please do something to spice it up every weekend, not just payday weekends. Most of your customers are regulars so they see the same stuff every weekend. Try doing and 80s party or something. Please no ghetto rap. How can you dance to ghetto rap? read more

Hooligans attracts some really awesome bands! There is no pressure to buy memberships. The bartenders know their stuff. Kind of standoffish, but there is a lot of traffic, so they keep really busy... I like the fact that there are three areas... You can go dance with the hip hop pop stuff or you can hang out int he casual bar area and watch some television, or my favorite pool and skee ball.... Cars in each area... Drinks are a more pricey than other clubs, but they are made well. There is a SERIOUS lack of bathrooms though... read more

I waited a few days to calm down before I wrote this. I went to the event on Wednesday to see Avatar for my birthday. I was so excited. Partway through the night a man came up to me and my brother (clearly intoxicated) and proceeded to try to push my brother into the mosh pit and started pulling on me. My brother kinda brushed him away from me and I chalked it up to too much booze. During the performance one of my friends got dizzy and lightheaded (an adopted brother of mine so to speak) and I told him to go sit down. When I realized he needed to go home I proceeded to go outside to talk to someone and he followed behind. I was fussing st him because he could have fallen and the same drunk started butting into the conversation at one point standing up and coming toward me like he intended to push me. A security person stepped between us and I said as long as he kept that guy away from me I was fine. The guy came up to me again and my friend chased him off. So I was sitting in a chair and that SAME GUY came up to me and cornered me in the chair. I brushed past him and made a very clear statement that if he came at me again I would knock him out, by then I was freaking out. The security guy came over talked to the guy then sent him back inside. He THEN proceeded to tell me if I said that again he'd kick ME out...so wait....I'm supposed to let him come at me and not do anything? No way in hell. I won't be going back especially not when I see that women aren't safe there read more

There's been several changes at Hooligans since a couple years ago, which is when most of these reviews were posted. I know the current manager and he does a hell of a job. The bartenders are friendly. Security dudes are pretty chill, until your drunk ass done fucked up. Great support for local bands and great turn outs for the national bands. read more
