I was shocked since it was the morning we were heading out. But Steve explained to me that another guy he knew was having better luck and he hadn't done too well the day before. So, reluctantly, I took Steve's advice and fished with another guide. We all limited! Wow... I called Steve two days later and thanked him. He told me he was on the fish now so I booked another day with him. This time, I fished with three other guys. We were on fish all day. Steve knew the Kenai. We hooked about 8 fish but two of the guys in the boat were not good fisherman and lost several. After these two turkeys were ready to head back early (I hadn't had a bite yet), Steve obliged them. I was sick. Then, Steve offered to take me back out (at like hour no 7 of the day). I jumped on the chance! We motored to a new section of the river and Steve pulled out the secret weapon. We pounded some good water until finally I got the bite I was looking for. I hooked a 42# hen and had a fantastic fight ending in my best king yet! I can't say enough for Steve. He knows his craft as well as anyone I have ever fished with. He's in it for all the right reasons! If you're fishing the Kenai penninsula, you should be so lucky as to fish with McClure!

While I haven't fished in years, I found his teachings easy to understand and exciting. I was engaged in his knowledge and learned quickly from his lesson. Because of this, I was enjoying my time on the river quickly. Our family has never had such an experience and will cherish it forever. Kenai Coldwater Fishing will be our first choice in future Fishing endeavors. Not only did we leave with fish, but we left with a once in a lifetime, unforgettable experience!!

My life has become a fairytale. The main protagonist- Seth. There must be a hidden language to…read moredescribe the impeccable joy it was having Seth as our fisherman guide. Alas. There is not, nonetheless Let me take you on a journey. Me and my flock are not Alaskan natives. We traveled very far from Louisiana to fish these mighty waters. Having absolutely no prior experience (nor genetic predisposition it seems) in the fish world, we shivered with fear, yet anticipation for the salmon extravaganza that awaited us. Cap'n Seth greeted us with a warm smile and an even warmer "hello there!". He was our beacon of light in our ignorant darkness. On the ride over, we shared many a laugh together. Arriving to the fishing destination (Seth provided an education on salmon strategy that rivals even Yale University. The diligence in which he instructed me and my fellow fishers was far beyond your average instruction. He was patient as an eagle in positioning us in our proper and prime fishing locale. Moana would be jealous of his keenness with water. We could tell by all the friendly greetings that Seth received from his fellow river guides that he is well liked by his peers, and it is easy to see why. Some might call him the River King - we certainly do. Let me tell you dear reader, I was by far the worst fisher out there, yet Seth wouldn't back down from helping me- and behold- I hooked a salmon. That salmon is my prize, the apple of my eye, the reason for my season. Never could I have done it without Seth. My crew caught more fish than we knew what to do with. Even us biggies couldn't eat the whole catch. The real founder of the feast was Seth. I could write forever about this journey, but let me leave you with this, give Seth your time, your business, and your conversation. If there is anyone who deserves it, it's him. We enjoyed conversing with Seth the entire trip as he answered our curious questions about life in Alaska and on the river. Thanks again Set. Shoutout to Katy (spelled with a Y) for saving us with waders.

We were very late in checking in, and the owners stayed to welcome me. That really shows they care about their business and they are professional and friendly. If you were going on a fishing expedition, this would be a very good option as it has several amenities: fish freezers, a LARGE outdoor jacuzzi (clean and HOT!), most cabins have kitchens, and it even has a canoe for communal use (they have new lifejackets in variety of sizes.) I didn't bring my computer, but they also have wireless. I brought a DVD, but unfortunately my room didn't have a DVD player. They have satellite cable with flatscreen tvs. My room was small, but the linens were very comfy and the price was very low; I feel I got an excellent value. It looks like they have great options for both small and big parties. A large group could rent a whole house, and they have private, 2-person cabins for those on a quiet getaway. I would definitely stay here again.

I stayed in the Mallard Cabin which had a small kitchen, living room, bed room and bathroom. It was perfectly sized for a couple or a couple with small children. The cabin was well equipped and comfortable. Alaska Serenity Lodge is conveniently located five minutes from Soldotna and the Kenai River. There was plenty to do in my off time, I was fortunate enough to catch a 100 Halibut during my stay. He is very patient and helpful to all skill levels of his clients and is a great help to all of them. I watched him with a client who said she has never been able to catch a fish in her life...she is jinxed...and she caught her limit in hours. He cares about his clients....switches things around for family emergencies and unexpected problems.
