I had a fishing trip scheduled during my honeymoon. I a veteran and Wildland firefighter, I saved up money all fire season last year to take a guided fishing trip at the end of my stay in Alaska. Come a couple day before the fishing trip, I hadn't heard from the lodge about who the guide is, what river we will be fishing on, and we were supposed to start at 5am the day off. Gloria, the owner, called me at 8 am the day of my trip, and told me they had forgotten about my trip, to call them back and they could see what they can do. I was staying in Palmer, which they knew, 3 hours away. I tried calling them back multiple times, sent multiple emails with no response. I spoke to Mandi at the end of the day, when they finally answered, she asked if I could reschedule for the next day. I told her that we couldn't because we were leaving in a day. She said she would talk to Gloria and Justin, to see what they could do. I didn't hear anything back, I called the next couple of days and left voicemails but still didn't hear anything. On Friday I called and left a voicemail saying if I didn't hear anything back that I would be forced to take other action. Instantly I got a call back, Justin gaslighted me, blamed me, said he had heard of no such email and blamed me the entire conversation, and refused to help in anyway. Lots of good lodges and guide services in the area. Definitely do not to business with salmon catcher.

Loved this place! It's the perfect amount of authentic Alaska and comfortable lodging. Terry and his staff were super helpful and have done an incredible job with the entire place. He spoiled us with service and support. He has all the fishing gear you need (poles, waders, boots, nets, coolers, ice, etc). The lodges are nice and decorated with log furnishings. The beds were comfortable, the water was hot, and we spent every night in the sauna, hot tub, and massage chairs. The fishing days included back trolling the Kenai in both a motor boat and drift boat, and we did some deep sea halibut fishing. All the guides affiliated with Terry were super friendly and had nothing but great things to say about The Salmon Catcher Lodge. I will absolutely, 100% go back to Alaska and stay here!

I really enjoyed my stay here. It was nice just to sit back and have everything taken care of for you...the schedule, the directions, the guides, the fishing, the gutting and cleaning, the packing, shipping, etc... Moreover, there doesn't seem to be a bad room in the place. Even the fishing guides (not ones hired by Terry) said that the Salmon Catcher is one of the nicer lodges in the area. Of course it was the only place I stayed so I can't speak on behalf of any other lodge. There is even an on-site laundry room and (I believe) each room has its own fridge and TV which is nice. The guides Terry hired were great. They literally did everything for us. But my favorite part - definitely Terry. He's just classic. My buddy and I got a kick out of him. We really did. I would be remiss if I didn't mention Terry. One thing I can say is he definitely wants his guests to be satisfied. It not only shows, but he even went out of his way to make sure we were happy. He really did! We might come back next year and if we do, we will likely stay here again.

We stayed at the Salmon Catcher lodge for 5 nights in August, our only regret was that we didn't stay longer. Terry, his wife Angie and the entire crew were incredibly hospitable. Terry even brought us dinner at 11:00 pm when we arrived- he said he knew we would be hungry after a long day of traveling . The Lodge itself is beautiful and has all of the comforts of home. The rooms are spacious, have kitchens, laundry available and wi-fi. Alaska is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited, and I credit that to Terry. He plans every trip with attention to detail for each guest. I wanted to see nature, my son wanted to fish- we both got exactly what we hoped for. Great beauty, great fishing, first class all the way!

My son and I had a fantastic time. We caught plenty of Halibut and Salmon. We are planning on coming back next year. The lodge accommodations were top notch. I feel we were spoiled, can't imagine any other place in Soldotna being any better.

Best guides, closest to the best fishing, great support staff!…read more Having lived near the Kenai River for over 30 years and still avidly fish the river, I know these folks are top notch guides. One of the best things about HiLo is their location. They are located on Beaver Hole on the lower river. A lot of the other lodges on the river either are located much further upriver or meet you somewhere on the lower river. With Hi-Lo, you step off their dock and 10 yards aways is one of the very best fishing spots on the lower Kenai River. If you want to catch fish that are blushed or turning red, then fish upstream. If you want to have the first crack at the first fish coming out of the Ocean and into the river silver bright and in mint shape, then you have to fish with Hi-Lo if you don't want to wait at some launch in the dark hoping the guides show up or start an hour earlier in the morning at 5am so the guide has time to run downriver through a hundred boats in the dark. Eat breakfast, step on the boat, and literally one minute later you are fishing in a premium spot. I have my own boat and base out of a launch several docks from them and ALWAYS use their services to help book my friends trip not only for salmon but halibut charters and any other activities. I fish side by side with their boats often and I ALWAYS get out fished. Very knowledgeable folks. When ever we fish late or we catch too many fish (haha, yes it happens!) I can rely on Melissa and their crew to get my fish processed for my guests. Always comes out perfectly Having fished the Kenai river since 1971, there are only several outfits I can personally give my stamp of approval to and Hi-Lo is one of them!

So, we always discussed since then to plan an Alaskan vacation that was more land than a cruise. However, the pandemic happened and our vacation plans were on the shelf until this year. We are not avid fishermen. I haven't touched a pole since I was a child but we decided to book a 5 day fishing package with Kenai Riverbend Resort that's located in Soldotna, Alaska. Once I booked with them and they received our payment, they emailed our confirmation as well as travel information, packing instructions and obtaining fishing licenses. Best.DECISION.ever We flew into Anchorage and decided to rent a car to take the scenic drive to Soldotna (roughly 3 hours). The resort is located by the Kenai River and it has been in business for 40+ years by the Cho family. The history of how this business came into fruition is amazing and every American dream for anyone who comes to America. They have a lot of returning visitors. One man shared he's been vacationing at Kenai Riverbend Resort for 20+ years! Talk about great customer service when you hear stories like this. At the resort, you can either rent an RV space, lodge (2 or less) or cabin (4 or more). If you don't have fishing gear, they have the necessary gear to make your fishing excursions successful. Their guides are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful and have been with the company for years. Dan and I were upgraded to a cabin next to the river and it was just beautiful. This is glamping at its finest. The cabin had a fridge, microwave, sink, cookware, dishes, hot plate and a gas grill. Dan and I agreed that next time we are here, we are buying a week's worth of groceries instead of dining out. We had 2 halibut fishing excursions at Cook Inlet and Homer as well as 2 silver salmon excursions on the river. Dan and I came prepared with our seabands and motion sickness medication. Our first day on halibut fishing, the guides (Christian and Mason) were super helpful and the remaining group were fun (I was the only female and they all cheered when I got the first catch of the day!). We forgoed the second day of halibut fishing to rest and explore instead. Our third day was an afternoon of silver salmon fishing on the river. While the current flowed fast, the river was smooth. Our guide, Jeremy was helpful and fun as well while we fished. Our fourth day was a morning of silver salmon fishing on the river, which went by quickly because we all caught the max number of salmon (3 per person) for the day. It was cold, rainy and fun! If you're wondering about the fish we caught, the resort will clean, filet, vacuum seal your fish and freeze it all until you check out. You can either have it mailed via FedEx or have them box it for you to travel with. Note: Anchorage International Airport has a storage freezer for your fish if you're planning to stay overnight in Anchorage. ***If you're traveling through Seattle from Anchorage and will be staying overnight...contact your hotel to see if they'll store it in their freezer as the SmartCarte baggage storage does not open until 8am at SeaTac. We took home 70+ lbs of fish. The resort and surrounding area was peaceful, serene and breathtaking. Alaska always brings things back into perspective about life. Keep it simple. Are we returning? Absolutely. Recommend: HIGHLY

We've never…read moregone on a fishing excursion before, so we weren't sure what to expect, but Hooksetters made everything easy, comfortable, and enjoyable! We went out on one salt water excursion from Homer and 3 river charters, which were all exceptional. The guides called the night prior to ensure we knew what time to meet them the next day and to confirm the location. There were several changes to our itinerary based on the weather, which were communicated well ahead of time so we could plan appropriately. The guides were personable, professional, and worked incredibly hard to make sure we caught as many fish as possible. They filleted the fish on the river and on the boat back to harbor (ocean), then we were able to drop the fish off at the processors on our way back to the lodge for freezing and packing. Each person is allowed 50 pounds of fish, and we easily filled two boxes with halibut and sockeye salmon. The lodge is equipped with lots of extra equipment for use - waders, rain-gear, fishing poles, coolers, etc. Breakfast is a help yourself situation with cereal, yogurt, fruit, breads, and one cooked item that can be heated like quiche or breakfast burritos. Lunches are packed the night before so you can grab and go. They contain sandwiches, chips, cookies, trail mix, nuts, and bottled water. Hors d'oeuvres were served every night but Thursday, the cook's night off. They usually consisted of a soup, meats, cheeses, and crackers. There were also meatballs and jalapeño poppers. Dinner was varied, with salads each night and bbq ribs, salmon, bacon wrapped filet, bbq brats, and pork loin. There was also dessert, of course! If you're late, the cook wraps up your food so you can heat it up later. All in all, I was very impressed with this location, but the people were what really made it memorable. Everyone was so helpful and friendly, especially for rookies like us. There were several guests who had been here before and were back again, and I can see why. First Ez limit is basically a booking service and just sells your purchase to other guides. So you have zero idea who you will actually go with and their qualifications. Secondly they overbook assuming some will cancel, but will not give refunds for their overbooking . My family of eight was told two days prior to one of three dates we had booked that they could only fill 5 of the slots 6 slots that they had billed us and I had paid. On their site they advertise their services are better because they offer " Quality less rushed all day charters". However on the first day the guide Greg assigned to us told us at 12:30 that we had 20 minutes left to catch our remaining fish before Greg had his next guides coming in that would need our spot. Had I not been able to find another guide, Ez limit would have destroyed our trip to Alaska, including my 3 grandkids. Very rude when I asked if my 4 times deployed son in law could get a military discount. They could have jest said no. My strong advice is to choose a guide service that will actually be the guide who will be taking you, not just reselling to others. And don't pay extra thinking you'll get "Quality less rushed all day charters" Strong thumbs down for Ez Limit
