You couldn't ask for nicer people the view from the lodge is unbelievable. First trip I did the river had a great time limited at the first gravel bar. Second day was Halibut and Cod again great people. The negative on this trip was after running out of Homer for an hour we started fishing but noticed the bilge pump running a long time as a boat owner I know that was way to long. Had a blast! Hosts were wonderful, accomodating, went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed. Cabin was beautiful, had everything you needed including a washer and dryer. Fishing was first rate with guides, captains and first mates knowledgeable and fun. Very helpful while on our excursions. I booked this charter fishing trip with Fish On charters for my son's graduation. This was the main reason for us going to Alaska. The communication was not good with this company and when I did ask question, they acted like I should know this info. We spent so much money getting ready for this adventure, (rain gear and such). A couple days before the charter date I was told a few different times that we would get a text telling us where to meet and the times. I booked our Airbnb because I was told by Fish On that is where the boys would leave from at the time of booking this charter, I was also told at time of booking that most likely it would be later morning due to the tide schedule. Finally the night before the said charter, I believe it was about 6pm I get the text they would need to be in a different town about an hour or more away from Kenai at 6am. OK, that was fine, but then 4 hours later I get a text they are cancelling due to weather out of Ninilchik. When I called, I was told we would get a refund. So, with this upsetting news we all went to the spit in Homer. The weather that day was one of the best in our entire time in Alaska. So, I asked why they cancelled because they could have brought the boat to Homer as there was plenty of boats out fishing. I was told the Homer boat captain and deck hand got sick. HMM Ok, so you took our captain and had him go do that charter in Homer? That is what I suspect happened. Did I get a full refund, no... they charged me $49. Why, I have no clue as Darlene the owner has yet to respond to my text msg. Mind you, it took me asking about where my refund was on more than a couple occasions. There are so many charters in this area, so if I were you, I would not trust them and go with someone else. Very heart breaking for my son as this was supposed to be the highlight of our trip. I just feel we were lied to, and their lack of communication is not the best. read more

Alaska Fish on was a very professional outfitter our guide. Connor took us out and put us on the fish both days that he was with us. We were blown out two days of halibut fishing, but they worked their best to keep us on the water whether salmon fishing or found us another larger boat to go halibut fishing, we limited out. They were very helpful as far as getting us on the water, taking care of us while we're on the water and processing our fish, it was a one stop shop. They did a fantastic job. Gary and Darlene are are gracious hosts, they organized our entire trip, they are friendly people. They set us up on our fist days fishing for some Halibut out of homer, Diamond Cape with captain Clay & Deckhand youngster Henry. These guys were great, were personable, and excited to get us on the fish, and boy did they. All 6 of us on the boat limited out on halibut, only 2 salmon were caught, one by me. But all & all a great day of fishing with great people. My personal recommendation, stay the night in homer, fish on will alter the sleeping accommodations and allow you to stay the night in homer, saves you from having to wake up super early and dive almost 2 hours. That evening we drove to their camp in Kenai, they have 3 cabins that sleep up to 7 people. They also have rooms in their larger lodge, the views are amazing from the lodge. They have coin operated laundry machines which really help a ton. The kitchen is pretty well stocked with plates & cooking utensils, bring your own spices etc. Beds are super cozy, windows are pretty well blacked out, helping to make it appear as night time, only 3-4 hours of darkness, crazy. The cabins are pretty cozy, new and very clean. The cabin is pretty well sound proof, and very well insulated. The heater kicks butt. Day 2 and 3 of fishing was on the Kasilof river with guide J.D. he's a good dude, very passionate about getting us some salmon, we were there early in the season, and weren't that lucky but that's okay, he was a solid dude, worked hard for us. Only 4 salmon were caught by prob over 20 boats within two days, maybe more. One of the guests that was with us day one of river fishing, she caught prob a 30" steelhead, beautiful fish, just a little early in the season for salmon. Ask to be placed with J.D. on the river, tell J.D. Sam the Plumber from California sent you. He's a cool guy. Alaska fish on offers fish processing, vacuum sealed and flashed frozen, they provide an airline approved container so you can ship your fish back, we only caught 1 small salmon, but I heard from the grapevine that they may be sending some salmon back with us anyways. Couple of other things, I wanted to fry some cod I caught, it was delicious, Gary brought me coals and lighter fluid so I didn't have to stink up the house, was able to do it out on the outdoor bbq grille. I really cant think of one negative thing to say about the entire experience, this was my first time to Alaska, and they made it memorable, I'm considering bringing my kids back on another future trip, and I'll defiantly use their services once again. The low rating probably includes some misunderstanding on my part. The staff was responsive in planning this endeavor. I asked to work In A "hiking" day in order to offset a bad weather day. They went right along with it. What I was not informed of was the fact that offsetting is not a practice here. You go regardless of the weather. In hindsight I do understand this logic NOW. The guides are in high demand. Which brings me to my second point. Our first guide was contracted through Gary and Darlene. (From this point forward I will simply state Darleen because other than a wader issue which I will get to in a second Gary didn't deal with us at all). He operated Darleens boats and used Gary waders. He was fine. It took me a while to get the hang of snagging fish because when Sockeye or Red Salmon fishing that's how it's done. I am an avid successful fisherman here in NW Florida. I'm not inept. I got skunked. Day 2. Halibut fishing. Enter unfavorable conditions. This leisurely fishing trip became a game of beat the weather. We bagged and popped smoke. This captain was our favorite of the three. Day 3 - Early on we are informed about plans our Guide had that night. So the trip was not relaxing again I got skunked. I dropped over $5000 on this trip to catch two halibut. It's never fun fishing knowing you have a time crunch. This captain advertised his own guide business on his boat. Also provided his own waders that he purchased. In other words, I may be wrong, But There were not enough guides to cover our party and they reached out to this guy. Not a good feeling knowing that when you booked 10 months prior. After day three - my father-in-law alerted Gary to a pair of waders, where the entire boot Filled with water. Ice cold Galatian / snowmelt runoff water. My father-in-law is one of the best freshman I know, And I am certain he did not put that hole there. The second sockeye trip we fished a little deeper which exposed that hole. Gary basically accused him of piercing it with a hook, And ensured that we Observed the disgusted look on his face after he tossed it in the trash. My father-I -law was the one entitled to the pissed look, not Gary. This of course was right after I alerted them to the fact that we were booked for a fly in trip that we did not pay for. Given that fact you think Gary would have taken our word for the damaged wader. Gary told us that he does not handle those sorts of things and instructed me to go to speak with Darlene. My failing in this is not Doing better research as to what catching when, the seasonally dictated methods for catching the fish As well as the type that we would be targeting. We were told we would be fishing for kings on the third day and that never happened. They were in season and catchable. Do not ever book a party telling them they're going to be doing one thing and they do another. But like I said I believe they ran out of guides for the 3/3 trip. In hindsight I would have paid more and opted for a guide service that invested more into their clients versus passing them on to some random guide. Heck Darlene couldn't even remember my name when I went inside to inform her about being scheduled for a trip we did not pay for. We lived in their downstairs basement, much more quieter and respectful Than the other two parties that stayed down there, and she couldn't even tell us our names. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The workers were extremely friendly, the rooms were clean, and the breakfast buffet was more than sufficient. Our fishing guides were great. The lessons they gave to us novice fishermen ensured that we had fun and that we caught fish. I have to give huge props to Gary and Darlene at Alaska Fish On charters. They made my dream trip possible. I wanted to always go fishing in Alaska for halibut and salmon. So I woke up, went to the airport and flew to Anchorage. I reached out to a few charter companies while waiting to board my flight. (crazy I know, but this is how my life is currently, I can't plan much in the future). I returned Fish On Charter's call while waiting in the rental car line after arriving in Anchorage. While in line I booked a fly in bear/fishing trip, river fishing for salmon, and a halibut trip. I was also booked into a very nice river cabin on the Kenai River. Darlene made sure everything was perfect with me before hanging up the phone. Needless to say I was super excited to start my adventure. I received the invoice for my trip and lots of maps on where to meet the guides, to get to the cabin, to get to Fish On Charters, and other places for our trip. Pro Tip. Use the maps, google and apple maps may send you to the wrong place. After everything was booked I came across the Yelp review posted about Fish On Charters. I became deflated and concerned about how my trip was going to play out. I mean this is a trip of a lifetime and I really didn't plan well in advance so anything was possible. I spoke with Darlene about the review and I felt her response was genuine. I was still a little concerned, who wouldn't be, this trip isn't cheap and it is a dream trip for me. I wanted everything to be perfect. My first adventure was the bear/fishing fly in. This was the top priority of my trip. we showed up to the location early and eager to get our trip started. Unfortunately, fog was in the area and the trip cancelled. I was extremely bummed out and disappointed. I spoke with Darlene regarding the cancellation and she said give her 10 minutes and she'd call me back. About 15 minutes later I was rescheduled to see the bears later on in the week and she scheduled a Sockeye salmon trip for this afternoon. Boom, adventure back on. We met our guide and my wife, who's never fished in her life caught a huge socket almost immediately. She was more hooked that the fish. NO LIE. Halibut fishing AMAZING.. Throwing back 50 pound fish because they are too small is something I never could imagine. The Fly In bear trip was again out of this world. Alaska Fish On Charters makes dreams come true! I recently took my workaholic father on a 5 day trip with Gary and the crew. The cabin we stayed in was new, clean, comfortable and roomy. More importantly these guys know how to catch fish and go the distance to be masters of their craft! We intentionally went in the slower season because we wanted the 3 silver salmon daily limit Bill and Gary helped us fish the river and helped us land the nicest fish I have ever seen. We took home over 200 pounds of fillets! I heard my father tell multiple people that "This is the most fun I have EVER had!" What was a once in a lifetime trip is going to become a tradition! Stayed on site for one week and it was great! 5 people in the Cabin (no issues) but my advice to anyone booking a trip with Gay and Darlene is immediate call @ Ron at www.alaskarentacar.net or 877-277-0650 as Rental cars in Alaska are hard to come by. My reservation with Avis was canceled at the last minute and Ron was there to save the day! Now to the fishing, we had the best fishing guides all week...3 King Salmon over 30 lbs and 30-40 lbs Halibuts. The five of us had a wonderful Trip and we can't wait to come back in 2021. read more

As many this was a once in a lifetime trip for myself, a friend, and my father to Alaska. Gary and Darlene were extremely friendly when we were exploring our options for our trip and decided to go with them. Their website is completely misleading as it makes it seem like the guides are all part of their company as well as the cabins. Well that is not the case! We arrived at a house that was nothing like the pictures on their site. The house smelled like complete urine and we used an entire bottle of febreze to only come back the next day for it to smell the same. There was a note on the door upon our arrival asking us to ensure we vacated the property the next day at noon because it was being shown by a realtor. The oven door was broken off, the shower door didn't close all the way and the tiolet was absolutely disgusting. When I contacted Gary and Darlene they only said thanks for letting us know we will let the property management company know. On day two we were instructed to meet the guide at 4:30 am, at 515 we were informed he wasn't showing up and we would need to wait until 9 am to go out and offered breakfast as a token of their apology, really? When we arrived back at 9 we obviosly didn't limit out because we got out too late. The guide was blowing vape smoke constantly in our face and after I offered him one beer he proceeded to drink more beer than me and my dad and friend. Communication was completely lacking and the accomodations were horrible. The first day of halibut fishing we were told to meet at a certain boat dock at 645 only to find out that the captain was told not to show up until 7 and was in a completely different spot. This company is totally unreliable, non communicative, and unprofessional as their pictures on their site are not what you actually get. I would never in a lifetime use this company or work with these people. The 3 other couples we met on our trip all shared similar experiences and were totally unhappy. Do your research and make sure you go with a company and guides that are reliable and everything is done through them. I emailed them upon our departure about our unhappiness and never got a response. Says a lot as they don't respect this is a once in a lifetime experience for many of this. Buyer beware as this is not the company you want to go with and can almost ensure their reviews were purchased by them for people to put them up as there is no way the reviews are reality. read more

I have never ever written a negative review, only positive ones. I hate doing so, but this situation definitely warrants it. My two sons and I were scheduled to go out on May 13. I paid a deposit of $600 back in January that was taken from my credit card (two transactions of $300, which I thought was strange but didn't ask questions, I was just excited to do this.) I received a call from Darlene the night before (real nice lady BTW), stating that the weather was supposed to be bad the next day, and they cancelled the trip. Although disappointed, I appreciated the call. Safety first and besides, would my boys really have fun if the waters were that rough? Darlene said she would just reimburse our deposit on the credit card. Simple enough. Should have been all good. 10 days went by and I still didn't see the reimbursement. I emailed Darlene and left several voice messages asking for an update, without a response. I finally received a text after the 19th day stating that they will mail me a check. I did receive a check a few days later in the amount of $294. Why $294? I called back and Darlene and she answered. She didn't know what was going on, was confused as ever, and said that she probably mailed me someone else's check. I told her that I was charged twice for $300. She said that I shouldn't have been charged twice, and there is probably something wrong with quick books. She said she was on it. I told her that I wasn't going to cash the $294 check because I didn't want to screw things up. Even though deep down I was extremely annoyed, (I work alot and don't have time to deal with this) I was actually cool about it. I understand that things happen. Now...here it is now 1 month later and my calls and texts have not been returned, and I still I haven't seen a refund. Like I said, things happen, but at least keep me in the loop. My wife just lost her job and we now need this $600 more than ever. This has just been one huge headache. I just want this to be over. You would think they would too. UGH!!! read more

I had the tremendous pleasure of meeting them last year when I embarked on my first fishing trip to Alaska through Fish On Charters based on a recommendation from a dear friend. Gary and Darlene, from the moment I first spoke on the phone with them (many months before my visit), made every effort to work within my budget, communicate regularly until we forged the perfect itinerary, accommodate my needs (lodging, fish cleaning and freezing) and went above and beyond to make my experience a fantastic and memorable one. Through Fish On Charters, I had the AWESOME experience of king fishing with the fishing kings Bill and Felix, the outstanding experience of flying over a glacier in a seaplane, the very memorable experience of catching a halibut for the heck of it, and the wonderful experience of seeing my friends and family tuck into all the perfectly packaged fish I brought back home to them.
