The scenery and wildlife were an added bonus. The entire staff was wonderful. We had daily housekeeping service, continental breakfast every day (or you can cook your own with their supplied groceries), and complete fish processing. Each day our catch was processed into portion sizes, vacuum packed, and into the deep freezer. When we were getting ready to leave, our fish was packed into insulated boxes to check as luggage on the plane. We just wish we had done this 30 years ago! Ok... As a campground, I give Bing's landing 3 stars, but as a fishing location... 4.5, so I'll…read moresplit the difference. Camping here is not great. The sites are kind of dusty and not very pretty. You get a picnic table, a fire ring, not much privacy and maybe some trees. Some sites are better than others. None of them have views of mountains nor the river. Sites can easily accommodate RVs. Like most federal campgrounds in Alaska, there is neither electric nor running water. On the plus side, there's a boat launch and tons of day parking for boat trailers and RVs for $15. Campsites are also 15. Car park is $5. It's a long walk down to the river as the banks here are very high (500 feet maybe?). We noticed a lot of birds, so I think this vantage is grrat for bord watching. The view from the top is kind of nice and on a clear day the Kenai River is really blue. All types of salmon are caught here, so I look forward to returning and trying my hand from this location that is known primarily to locals.

So, we always discussed since then to plan an Alaskan vacation that was more land than a cruise. However, the pandemic happened and our vacation plans were on the shelf until this year. We are not avid fishermen. I haven't touched a pole since I was a child but we decided to book a 5 day fishing package with Kenai Riverbend Resort that's located in Soldotna, Alaska. Once I booked with them and they received our payment, they emailed our confirmation as well as travel information, packing instructions and obtaining fishing licenses. Best.DECISION.ever We flew into Anchorage and decided to rent a car to take the scenic drive to Soldotna (roughly 3 hours). The resort is located by the Kenai River and it has been in business for 40+ years by the Cho family. The history of how this business came into fruition is amazing and every American dream for anyone who comes to America. They have a lot of returning visitors. One man shared he's been vacationing at Kenai Riverbend Resort for 20+ years! Talk about great customer service when you hear stories like this. At the resort, you can either rent an RV space, lodge (2 or less) or cabin (4 or more). If you don't have fishing gear, they have the necessary gear to make your fishing excursions successful. Their guides are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful and have been with the company for years. Dan and I were upgraded to a cabin next to the river and it was just beautiful. This is glamping at its finest. The cabin had a fridge, microwave, sink, cookware, dishes, hot plate and a gas grill. Dan and I agreed that next time we are here, we are buying a week's worth of groceries instead of dining out. We had 2 halibut fishing excursions at Cook Inlet and Homer as well as 2 silver salmon excursions on the river. Dan and I came prepared with our seabands and motion sickness medication. Our first day on halibut fishing, the guides (Christian and Mason) were super helpful and the remaining group were fun (I was the only female and they all cheered when I got the first catch of the day!). We forgoed the second day of halibut fishing to rest and explore instead. Our third day was an afternoon of silver salmon fishing on the river. While the current flowed fast, the river was smooth. Our guide, Jeremy was helpful and fun as well while we fished. Our fourth day was a morning of silver salmon fishing on the river, which went by quickly because we all caught the max number of salmon (3 per person) for the day. It was cold, rainy and fun! If you're wondering about the fish we caught, the resort will clean, filet, vacuum seal your fish and freeze it all until you check out. You can either have it mailed via FedEx or have them box it for you to travel with. Note: Anchorage International Airport has a storage freezer for your fish if you're planning to stay overnight in Anchorage. ***If you're traveling through Seattle from Anchorage and will be staying overnight...contact your hotel to see if they'll store it in their freezer as the SmartCarte baggage storage does not open until 8am at SeaTac. We took home 70+ lbs of fish. The resort and surrounding area was peaceful, serene and breathtaking. Alaska always brings things back into perspective about life. Keep it simple. Are we returning? When we got here, we were very impressed with the size of the playground! It was large, had lots of things to kids to climb and play on and overall it was great! The park also had some open areas and other things, but for us the highlight was the playground. It seems like it would also be a good place for a picnic. If I was here again and my kid wanted to play at a playground, I would definitely stop here.

After spending some time at the playground, we took a stroll near the water. The views here are gorgeous! Our walk was nice, enjoyable, and relaxing. We liked this playground so much that we stopped here twice - once on the way to Homer and another time on the way back.

WE did find the new meeting place at 7a.m.Austin did not arrive .Called at 7:15 said he had a flat tire,would get tire fixed and meet us at the ramp.At 8:20 another guide arrived and we were able to go fishing.Had a great trip with this guide.Austin never did check on us or anything.Very disappointed with Austin,not a dependable person,Before booking with him,I would book at your own risk.WE were at Truman Reservoir very large lake and we did not know our way around.Had to find our way without ant support from autin.

I fished with McClure by accident in '09. I was in AK in June and was jonsing to catch a king…read more The first time I tried to fish with Steve he talked me out of it. I was shocked since it was the morning we were heading out. But Steve explained to me that another guy he knew was having better luck and he hadn't done too well the day before. So, reluctantly, I took Steve's advice and fished with another guide. We all limited! Wow... I called Steve two days later and thanked him. He told me he was on the fish now so I booked another day with him. This time, I fished with three other guys. We were on fish all day. Steve knew the Kenai. We hooked about 8 fish but two of the guys in the boat were not good fisherman and lost several. After these two turkeys were ready to head back early (I hadn't had a bite yet), Steve obliged them. I was sick. Then, Steve offered to take me back out (at like hour no 7 of the day). I jumped on the chance! We motored to a new section of the river and Steve pulled out the secret weapon. We pounded some good water until finally I got the bite I was looking for. I hooked a 42# hen and had a fantastic fight ending in my best king yet! I can't say enough for Steve. He knows his craft as well as anyone I have ever fished with. He's in it for all the right reasons! If you're fishing the Kenai penninsula, you should be so lucky as to fish with McClure!
