Neither of us had been to Stanton's, but we were aware of its reputation. We both had to drive 90 minutes to have lunch at Stanton's and I'm glad I made the drive. Since this was a long drive, I ate more than if the restaurant had been a quick drive. I tried their chopped BBQ and fried shrimp plate with slaw and baked beans as sides. Hush puppies were served with the plate. Topped off with a BBQ sandwich. For a beverage, I ordered a 1/2 and 1/2 tea. The tea was fantastic! For me, the regular sweet tea would have been a little too sweet. The BBQ was really, really good! They barbecue butts, as opposed to whole hog. The sides were solid, but not exceptional. The best side I tasted was the slaw and it was above average, while the beans were very average. The BBQ sandwich (a true test marker) with slaw - excellent. There were three people at our table and our total bill was only $52. The servers were excellent and about as nice as you could encounter. Just good southern hospitality. Lastly, the building/business is a South Carolina Certified Heritage Site. It's been around a long time and you feel you have stepped back in time. Stanton's has served a lot of people over the years. The restaurant looked to be built onto the home on the property. There is plenty of parking, and an airstrip across the street. People fly in almost every day to have lunch and we were fortunate to see an arrival by air while we were there. The next time I'm in the area, I will stop in for some BBQ!

I got the BBQ sandwich, chips, and sweet tea. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from the BBQ when I got there but I was definitely impressed when I tasted it. It was delicious and smoky. We talked for a couple minutes and it turns out that they will make trays for large parties to take out. Perfect if you are taking lunch over to AO Smith, Tally Metals / Carpenter, or the hospital. I made it a point to go here this time and came here on Thursday , my last day , for lunch before driving to the mountains. Everyone was very nice and the chopped pork sandwich was very good. I'm more used to pulled pork , but it was pretty much the same thing. The vinegar and red pepper bbq sauce was on point like it should be in the Carolinas. The slaw was okay and it also came with a pack of potato chips. It was nice and quiet sitting on the picnic benches and a few people came by while I was eating. I also got a show from one of the local birds flying high enjoying the wind. At first I thought it was a hawk , but after looking at the picture more closely it looks like a buzzard. Anyway , I highly recommend you giving them a try , support local businesses , and it was some good barbecue.

My husband ordered the chicken platter with two sides baked beans and coleslaw. You get hush puppies with every meal. I tasted the chicken and it was flavorful . My shrimp was good the barbecue was a little dry just added extra sauce. We had lemonade to drink and the staff members come to your table to get you refills . All in all it was a decent meal and it was very filling. If I was to go back I would go for the chicken.

We had brisket, ribs and pulled pork. The ribs were so tender they fell off the bone. Literally just pulled the bone out. The flavors were outstanding. There was bbq sauce but truly wasn't needed, more just to enhance the flavors. The brisket was moist and tender. Seasoned to perfection. It as well needed nothing more. The pork was really good. Tender and juicy. We had a few sides but the most amazing one was the watermelon salad. With the mint, lime, cojita cheese, cucumbers, and red onions it was mind blowing. The way everything in the salad blended so well together was perfection. The Mac and cheese were just as top tier. The way the cheese pulled, the kick it had you could tell this was recipe that has been used for years. There was a bite to it and it was perfect. We also had the Mexican street corn that burst with so many flavors. And lastly we tried the hash brown casserole. It was definitely different but equally as delicious. The service was quick. We arrived at 9:45 on a chilly, drizzly day and there were probably 50 people in line ahead of us. There was a friendly staff member monitoring and organizing the line and she told us we were there on a 'slow' day because of the weather. After the restaurant opened at 11, we waited in line for probably another 45 minutes until we got inside to order. The brisket was great, but the best things we had were the kolaches (stuffed breakfast rolls available before they open), Cheerwine hot link sausage, and fruit crisp. The Cheerwine sausage was the biggest surprise. It had a great flavor and wasn't sweet - I've never had anything like it before. When we get a chance to go back, we'll probably skip the pulled pork and mac & cheese. They were fine but there's a lot to try and these weren't anything special.
