Over the past few years, I picked up fishing as a hobby, and I've been doing it quite frequently this year. My old rod and reel was pretty outdated, and I came here to get a brand new set up. Everyone in the store is very knowledgeable, and set me up with a custom rod and reel that has been working really great and has been catching me tons of fish. I had a specific budget, and they were able to accommodate something really high quality under 150 bucks. The store is not too far from my house, so I always stop in frequently, sometimes to pick up bait and extra hooks, but I always leave with tons of extra knowledge they provide. The staff here is exceptional, and their knowledge of fishing is out of this world. I really recommend the shop to anyone who is serious about fishing, or is trying to get to know the sport, these guys will really point you in the right direction. read more

They are a family owned business and are open 6 days a week and offer a huge selection of freshwater and saltwater fishing gear and are very knowledgeable about both types of fishing . I highly recommend them. I would also say that when you go into their establishment you will become part of their family. I've been surf fishing for over 25 years and I know my way around a tackle shop. And I know my baits. I called to ask if they carry live blood worms. I was met with a scoff and a "no, we carry lug worms- L U G - same thing". First of all, I know my baits and fish with lugs a lot, but I prefer bloodworm if I can find em. I don't need someone to spell the name to me like I'm a kid, and then proceed to tell me they're the same. Very different worm. He went on to tell me that he begs to differ...dude I was just calling to ask if you had em, not get a attitude and snarky remark and even have him spell them for me! Can't stand bad customer service when I'm trying to support your small business, don't act like your doing me a favor. Guess I know where I won't be recommending to tons of my fishing buddies in the area. I've heard the same from other fisherman but now I know for myself. read more

As a novice and a female I was a little shy to enter but found the owner most helpful in every way possible with my questions . It seems like Hook Line & Sinker has been around forever. I know the ownership changed a few years ago (at least) but am happy to see them keeping it going. It is a bit of a hole in the wall but is packed with everything you need for fresh or salt-water fishing. The also sell licenses and run their own charter fishing boat (I hope to check that out with a small group some day). I have had them restring my reels (the machine is so much faster!) and usually find a reason to stop by a couple times a year at least. They have a load of consignment rods and reels so you can find a good deal. They were backordered on a crabbing item I was looking for and the stock was a little less than usual on this visit. Maybe that is because it is winter. I would recommend starting here for your fishing needs or some advice as you pick out your gear for the local holes. They may even point to some not-so secret spots. And, if you stick around for a bit, you are likely to hear some old fisherman wander through with a tall tale or to muse the weather.  I was told they are catching halibut and bass on the charter. So, I am getting excited for the new fishing year! read more

I live in Central Cal but travel through Santa Barbara on a monthly basis. I love stopping by their tackle shop. Their staff is super knowledgeable and have everything I need in one spot. These guys are hacks! I brought in a beautifully wrapped rod to have just the butt end changed and these morons ripped all the beautiful turbo guides off along with the beautiful marble wrap and intricate triple thread wrap for reasons unknown, and then did a shit job reinstalling weird ugly guides from the early 60s. Then this dumb ass girl tries to pass it off with I don't know anything about it! Unbelievable!!! We'll see what they do about it read more

I went to Hook Line and Sinker today as I usually do my tackle purchases there. At the door was a sign that had been there awhile, stating that the person inside was not wearing a mask due to medical reasons and if anyone wished they would deliver the persons items to the door. When I inquired why they couldn't wear a mask while dealing with the public they gave what appeared to be a made up answer. Although the person at the counter had a buff around his neck he did not put it on to protect me, like I was doing by wearing mine and protecting him. If this store will not follow the guidelines set by the health department I will no longer be able to give them my business. read more

Great selection and affordable prices on tackle, friendly and willing to offer plenty of tips. However, I was forced to warranty a brand new rod that I bought here through the manufacturer due to misaligned guides and a no return policy on rods and reels. I should have meticulously inspected the rod before walking out the door with it (an assistant pulled the rod off the shelf for me after I had decided on brand and price point) but placed a little too much faith in both the reputation of the maker (Shakespeare) and the magnanimity of the shop owner (Tiffany). The rod directly from Shakespeare was almost as poorly made. As a result, Tiffany offered to sell both rods at well marked down prices in order for me to recoup my costs. I had to spend a little too much of my time to make all this happen, and it would have been nice to have the shop owner fight that battle with her distributor in my stead - or offer an exchange on a product I had never used. read more

I am a manufacturer's rep, so my review should be taken in context. But I can tell you that when I dropped in on my way down the 101 to pay the store a visit, I was met with an understandably suspicious, then friendly and open smile by Tiffany. She happily shared with me their focus on tackle, bait, and equipment focused on local species only. Yes, their retail strip square footage is tight, but they cram a lot of product on their shelves for the local angler. If you want box store, then drive however many miles @ $3.75 a gallon to save $2 on a $12 lure. If you'd rather spend that drive time FISHING, then support this local business, maybe ask for a tip/pointer (which I suspect she'd gladly give), and get out on the water! Since I'm not a customer of the shop I will mitigate my rating accordingly with a solid 3 star.... read more

My son and I came from Northern California on a family trip for 5 days to Santa Barbara. We went to the store twice, and I think he called there about 3 times! My son loves fishing more than just about anything. Tiffany was amazing. She patiently answered all of my son's questions, taught him how to read a tide chart, recommended the best tackle for the kind of fishing he wanted to do, and gave him plenty of tips (plus trouble-shooting advice when he didn't catch fish on the first day out). Went to the store not sure what I was looking for. Found the staff to be friendly and helpful. Lots of stuff to choose from, seem to focus on local stuff which is great.
