This review is for Hook and Ladder's private events, and in particular giving them kudos for hosting our Welcome Party for our wedding weekend in June. We have been wine club members for awhile, and have visited H&L countless times over the years, so we knew that hosting our rehearsal event here was the perfect choice! Devin, who helped us book, plan and host the event, went above and beyond for us in every way. He could not have made this event more stress-free for us, and he's also just an amazing guy who provided an awesome energy during our event (our guests loved talking to him and learning about the winery). Our ~70ish guests fit perfectly on the lawn and the team made the space feel intimate and beautifully arranged for our group. They let us not only arrive early to set up, but they graciously let us stay a little later when we lost track of time from having too much fun. I can't thank the staff at Hook and Ladder Winery enough for making my friend's bachelorette party so memorable! Everyone was very kind and accommodating - so much so that they put us in their barrel room because of the unexpected rain. While we wish it could have been outside, the barrel room was very cozy and actually turned out pretty great. The sun even came out later, and we were able to get a few pics with the vineyards in the background :) Hook and Ladder was just about the only winery I could find that allowed us to bring our own food and decorations. This was actually our second time visiting this location! What originally brought us here is we found there tillerman wine at our local Safeway and then we couldn't find anymore and found out they had a winery that wasn't too far away! My husband is a firefighter and he is actually the tillerman on the truck at his station so it works out great as gifts for all the guys! Not only is the wine delicious but come on firefighters get discounts that's a great bonus!! The land is beautiful and they have plenty of seats everywhere. One of the ladies told us that they even have events like this Friday they are having a movie night!! They don't serve food but you can bring your own! She was amazing for our tasting the wines were all excellent. Yes we had a few we really enjoyed. You need to try for your self! The grounds were so cool to relax and enjoy the great wines. I've been here countless times over the years and every time has been a great experience. Things changed a bit post pandemic, but the wines here are delicious. The wines here are fairly priced for the area and they have something for everybody. We spent an afternoon here with Randy and it was hands down the most fun I've EVER had in a day at ANY winery in Sonoma/Napa. We all had an absolute blast and he was the consummate host. We walked out with a s*** ton of wine to take home. Devin is an AWESOME manager. He does a great job making customers feel welcome. This was one of the most fun, laid-back wine tastings I've experienced in Sonoma County. Delicious wines, a lovely patio, and friendly and knowledgeable staff made this a wonderful experience. It was easy to make a reservation for my party of 3 online. When we arrived, we were seated on the charming patio where tables were spaced nicely apart. Our pourer was a damn delight -- I couldn't decide between the red or white flight, so she poured me some of both! She answered all of our questions about wine and even gave us some bonus pours. It was quite a generous wine tasting! Hook and Ladder lets you bring in your own food, so it was fun to pack a picnic to accompany the wine tasting. The zinfandel was my favorite, but I was pleasantly surprised at their white wines. Their chardonnay and sauvignon blanc were fantastic. My only criticism is that the 1.5 hour reservation window flew by so fast! I could have easily enjoyed the patio for another hour (or several!). I'll definitely be back. :) read more

On a whim, we decided to go wine tasting today. While Hook & Ladder is 5 minutes away from us, we have never been. Huge mistake on our part. While under COVID rules, we started our tasting outside. They have beautiful grounds, with bistro and picnic tables set up. There is an old fire truck to check out. There is also a bocce ball court. We were told, it can be used if we bring our own balls. We started with a separate wine and red flight. My wife and daughter whites, me red. Eventually they kind of blended together. A bizarre storm, with thunder and lightning, rolled through. So plans quickly changed and staff moved a few tasters into an area where the wine tanks were. Tables and chairs were set up for us. The tasting continued. Their Pinot Noir's were amazing. So was one of their aged chardonnay's. Randy helped us throughout and was a great host. Wine seemingly kept flowing. The whole atmosphere was unpretentious and totally casual. I honestly can't wait to go back. Yes, we also joined ANOTHER wine club. We have one we want to stop. Sounds like a fun experience to be had once we rid ourselves of this pandemic. read more

Loved this place. We kicked off our day of wine tasting here. The vibe is super cool and the estate was fun, spacious and love all of the red. All of the wines we tasted from chardonnay to Pinot noir to Cabernet were delicious. Our host was friendly, funny and informative. We enjoyed a tasting, and I ended up joining the wine club b/c the wines were good, and reasonably priced. Especially loved the sparkling wine. Oops can't believe I forgot to review one of our favorite wineries. We've been members for years. Love all their wines - great daily drinkers. They did a huge renovation in 2020 and it's so gorgeous. We've come up to Russian River several times and always make a point to poke in here (admit, they offer free tastings for first responders and military - me), but this time we joined. Hook and Ladder will definitely get you "hooked" on their delicious white wines! I'm a red wine drinker at heart, but the Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer that I had here just simply blew me away. This adorable winery is located along the Olivet road wine trail in a quaint little area of Santa Rosa. This was the first stop during our Russian River Valley wine tour and it definitely set the bar for all of the other wineries that we visited in the area. The exterior has a rustic barn-like feel with gorgeous views of their vineyards and the surrounding Russian River Valley. We started our tasting indoors in their tasting room. We loved the vibe here! It was very relaxed and completely unpretentious. The sommeliers were personable and informative. The crowd was really fun too! There was so much infectious energy in the room that we couldn't believe that this was our first stop of the day! We began our tasting with their 2014 Chardonnay and worked our way down to their luscious Cab Sauv. I enjoyed practically every wine that I tried, but I was thoroughly impressed with their white wines! The Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer tasted simply amazing! Red wines are my usual go-to's, but the white wines were killer here! Very light and refreshing and can be paired with practically anything! We also really adored their Zinfandel. They have a cute covered patio next to their indoor tasting room where we ended up spending the rest of our time. I loved the cute little altar! This place would make a beautiful setting for a wedding. The bocce ball court was really fun as well. We really enjoyed our time at Hook and Ladder. The wine was great, service was amazing and it is such a beautiful estate. My only feedback is that we certainly would have purchased bottles if it would have waived our tasting fees...tasting fees (plus random service fees on top of tasting fees) seem to be increasing across the board in wine county- which is unfortunate because it tends to discourage my friends, and my partner and I from buying bottles since we've already paid $40+ per person just to taste (5 standard tasting pours- nothing too generous). Overall, this spot was a great find and we would certainly go back. I just wish they would waive fees with the purchase of 2 or 3 bottles. read more

Visited during Winter Wineland 2022. Our 6th year doing wine road winter wineland and just did the Sunday one day option and due to Covid had to make reservations for set times at 4 wineries: Foppiano, Orsi family, Landmark Hop Kiln, Hook and Ladder. This was our favorite of the 4 and hostess Bobbi made it for us. She was very enthusiastic and generous with her wine pouring. The setting is beautiful and we would love to return with a picnic. Hook and Ladder is owned by a former firefighter. He was the Tillerman that controlled the rear end of the firetruck ladder. They served us what seemed an endless selection of wines, from multiple whites, a Rose and then at least six reds. We had a lovely afternoon with friends; did a wine flight that was $25 each plus 20% gratuity so $60 a couple. There was lots of seating with shaded picnic tables and comfy Adirondack chairs throughout the property. The issue came when one in our party of 7 relaxed on an Adirondack in the shade about 2 hours into the tasting and was quietly snoozing. He was rudely interrupted twice and told to leave. I have no idea why he was quiet, inconspicuous, relaxed and there was lots of seating available for others. read more
