Ordered a Fort Knox safe on 5/21 of this year and was told it would arrive around the last week of July. I called the week of the July 23 to check the status and was told it should be there the following week. So I called the first week of August and was told the manufacture was having trucking problems and it should be here in another week. So I called August 13 and was told it would be in on Aug 20th. I told Hooderhyde if it wasn't in on 8/20 I would come in to have my deposit refunded. I received a call on 8/16 that the safe was being loaded and it would be here by the end of the week. I called today and it should be here on Monday. I informed the gentleman I would be in to have my deposit refunded, said thank you and hung up. Hoogrrhyde proceeded to call my 3x, even though I ate it clear I would be coming in for a refund. Each time they called I answered their question and hung up. So I arrive and was told they wouldn't give me a full refund unless I sent them an email with an explanation as to why. I am not very upset because I am being black mailed. So I sent them an email. They didn't like my email because it didn't provide specific dates. Now I am furious. Next thing the owner is calling me a "dick". I ask him to write down exactly what he wants me to say in the email so I can get my refund. Now I am being a dick. Long story short.... I would not recommend doing business with Hoogerhyde. read more

This is the second time this year that I have had great, friendly and knowledgeable service from Hoogerhyde Safe and Lock. The first time was a garage door key that needed duplicated and I was sent to Hoogerhyde by a different hardware store because the key was a smaller size than what the previous hardware store carried, Hoogerhyde was able to help me. The second time was more significant it was a car key that I had already had trouble with the key fob not working that now wouldn't work in the door. I thought the teeth on the key were worn out, and I needed to replace it. The dealer said it would cost $300 to replace one key due to a transponder in the fob, needless to say - I was shocked! My boyfriend looked online and it was suggested I might be able to have a regular key made minus the transponder and just keep original key fob close by. That idea sent me back to Hoogerhyde whom again was incredibly helpful, asked me several questions, took my key apart, compared my working key to the non working key, then went outside and sprayed lock de icer in the door keyhole and the bad key worked! It never crossed my mind that the below freezing temps we have had for over a week could be the issue. They sent me on my way in 15 mins with no charge and wouldn't take any money for their time. Unfortunately neither time did I remember to get the salespersons name so I regret that I cannot give them credit individually but I will always take my key, safe and lock business to Hoogerhyde! read more

I was interested in a gun safe, and due to swing Hoogerhyde advertising on Michigan Outdoos; I thought I would stop in. The first thing I noticed was, a huge inventory of gun safes. I was immediately overwhelmed, but then Tom showed up. I told him I was completely ignorant about gun safes. I immediately was being given an education on what to look for as well as comparisons between a quality safe vs. the cheaper ones sold by big box stores. This education was not only lecture, but backed up with examples of actual disassembled gun safes. Hoogerhyde carries many varieties by several manufacturers, at all price points. Based on my particular needs, they even had a like new used model at a very discounted price! I highly recommend, if you're considering an investment in a gun safe to protect your valuable firearms from theft or fire; stop into Hoogerhyde's! read more

These guys are my saving grace! We use them all the time for work. Recently we had to have them come in and make a ton of key copies and make new keys for offices that were missing keys. I'm not the kind of person who usually writes reviews but I had such great service here I had to. I went to get my car and house keys duplicated and I was quoted over the phone a certain price for my car key which has some fancy chip in it to deter car jackers called a transporter(?). Anyway those cost quite a bit more than your average key. I went in and talked to Scott who was so helpful. He managed to copy the chip instead having to do the whole programming shebang with my car and key and I ended up spending $20 less than I anticipated. Won me over with their excellent customer service. I will definitely be coming here again. read more

The in-laws gifted us with an old safe of theirs from Hoogerhyde. This thing is at least 20+yrs old. I couldn't figure out how the combo worked so I gave them a call. Within 5min of talking to the very knowledgable gentleman on the phone I had it opened. I was happy to have his help. I locked myself out of my house today (not unusual) and called a locksmith who quoted me a fee and said they'd be there in "around" 30 minutes. 10 minutes later they call from Grand Haven (I'm GR NW) and say I'm not showing up on GPS. I decided to try Hoogerhyde even though it was 2 minutes to their closing time. Miraculously, they picked up the phone, quoted me $20 less. Ten minutes later, Matt was rounding my street corner and picking my lock like a jewel thief. The man has skills and a very cool dog. I respect fast and thorough service. I'm a fan. read more
