Sainsbury's - Need strong and sturdy?

I'm not quite sure how to review this place. "3.5 stars" feels like the rating I want but since…read morethat's not an option, I'll bump it up to 4 stars. The location to surrounding area is amazing. The family and I were vacationing in South Kensington and this store was ideally located. It's a grocery store that has all the essentials... and more. And by "more", I mean seemingly random stuff like an aisle of non-branded shirts... and a convenience station which apparently provides shoe repair? Item selection for things (particularly vegetables and fruits) seems a little sparse. But admittedly I'm a tourist so perhaps that's expected for the area, climate, and time of year. Checkout is slightly disorganized (again, probably a "tourist ignorance" thing). Recyclable bags are available for pickup on a rail while walking through self-checkout. There's an automated gate that requires a receipt barcode to be scanned before exit is permitted. Ultimately I think this is a store that's 90% grocery store and 10% variety store. Nothing wrong with that but it was just a little surprising.

It was interesting visiting an English grocery store. First of all this particular store was…read moresmaller than the ones in the United States. Also, English grocery stores aren't laid out the same. For example cookies might be in multiple locations rather than one designated "cookie aisle." Also it was interesting because you had to pay for a shopping cart. They did have a limited number of hand baskets. If they ran out of hand baskets, people would use the bags they brought and add there items into the bags. Then remove them when they got to the counter. It was nice because there weren't long lines, and they had a lot more self-serve kiosks than my local American grocery store.

From clothing to electronics and obviously all the food you can think of. (No canned lychees though... when I asked someone if they have it they said: Yeah cheese section is right over there... hello? I am Swiss yes but not everything I want is cheese) There is also a pharmacy and an optician which can be really helpful too. I also love it that they sell fresh Indian food which is great for lunch (I work nearby). So yeah good place but usually too crowded...

You, ASDA, are not my Wal-Mart. My Wal-Mart has so much random cheap crap lying around that I think…read moreto myself 'Oh! I NEED that....' even if I haven't the first clue what it does. Wal-Mart has never let me down (okay ONCE, but it was for a CD of the musical AIDA...and who in the midwest listens to musicals besides me?) and yet, Asda, you failed me. All I needed was cheap baby dolls for a halloween costume. Not even BIG baby dolls, just small ones to represent the Octomom. But, sadly, there was none of that. Only plush stuffed dolls that were like £4. However, it did redeem itself when I found both american popcorn and cheerios on sale. And let me tell you, Honeynut Cheerios will go a long way in redeeming something in my eyes. If it was closer (aka not a 2 hour busride from my flat) I would totally hit it up for cheap groceries. So, all in all, it was a nice reminder of home but just not the same useless crap that I miss so much.

Whole Foods Market - Need some dark chocolate peanut butter mini eggs?

They have so many brands, wide aisles and well displayed items. They have a great variety of healthy snack alternatives and gluten free options, which I need. They also have lots of different peanut butters to choose from which is fab. The fresh food options are good too. Just like in the US, there are lots of hot dishes and cold meal options to choose from in the self-serve area. Healthy options and some favourites, like mac & cheese and even cod bites! Highly recommend and not everything is as expensive as I expected so it's definitely worth checking their sales. Their soups are great too!

The store is really impressive and has a great selection of high-quality products with a shopping environment that is both clean and welcoming, the prices are high for sure with Whole Foods being more of a premium brand so you wouldn't want to do a whole weekly shop here, but if you're looking for some interesting, unique or high-end products this place can certainly do the job. Despite the size of the store, it was well laid out and easy to find what I was looking for without the need for staff assistance there was also a dedicated area for Amazon orders and returns, with Amazon of course owning Whole Foods. The Kensington Kitchen, Wine Bar and unique food offerings make this a nice place to shop. 4*
