I had to call a number to get an appointment because there were no appointments available online and my international travel was scheduled to leave in three days. I got the last appointment available this week at 11:30. printed my photo at CVS pre-filled out my application printed that out and also brought printed copies of my flight confirmation and my appointment confirmation. My appointment was at 11:30 but I showed up at 9 AM and was the second person they served. the employee was happy to hear that I was early for my appointment and I got in and out in less than 10 minutes. Will pick up my passport tomorrow afternoon. Every employee I came across was polite and professional. They were fast and efficient 100% recommend and appreciate that we have this option here on the island. read more

I've had a passport since I was a baby and have always been 'on it' when renewing my passport, but pressing family issues and the immediate need for new passport for my husband brought us here a couple of months ago. The agency is only available by appointment only. First, you need to be eligible, then have all your application materials, and then you make an appointment online. To be eligible to apply at this passport agency, you must: - Have international travel within 14 calendar days. -- If you need a foreign visa, your appointment must be within 28 calendar days of your travel. - Show printed proof of international travel. If you have a life-or-death emergency, the requirements are different. We had a bit of a tricky situation but figured out the best route and were able to make an appointment quickly. The office is located in a federal building so you do need to go through security and have an ID with you. When we got there, there weren't very many people and it took no more than 20 minutes. We explained that we were only there for the day and were flying out later that evening. They were able to print the passport the same day and gave us a time to come back and pick it up. Easy peasy. Thankful that this service is available in Hawaii, albeit I live on a neighbor island. It is what it is, but when you need your passport in a jiff, this is the place! read more

Visited 6 June 2022 My cousin was visiting and planned to return home in 2 weeks (he is a U.S.A citizen but lives in Antigua). However, his passport was expiring so he needed to renew it. He called the passport office on 31 May and was able to get an appointment for 6 June. (The passport offices has in-person appointments for urgent and emergency services; his was considered an urgent need). For his appointment, he had to show printed proof of his international flight. (No walk-ins are allowed). On the day of the appointment, we arrived early since we were not familiar with the building. Luckily we did. There was a short line and before entering, visitors are screened by an agent outside the door. Then, once you state the reason for your visit, you are "approved" entry. After that, you go through a security screening and body scanner, similar to the airport screening, except, you keep your shoes on. However, everything in your pockets, metal including belts, watches, keys, and all electronic devices must be placed in the bin and through the scanner. Additional people are allowed in. I was surprised I was able to go in. I walked up expecting to be rejected entry since I was not the one with an ap. But, I had no issues accompanying my cousin. There were other families with multiple parties too. After that, visitors can proceed to the office where they are conducting business. The passport office is to the right once you exit the screening area. Once at the passport office, their are two more security agents directing visitors. First, you join the cue to check-in. The passport agent checks you in for your appointment and verifies you have all the required documents then gives you a number to wait for the next agent. The second agent then verifies your international flight and need for an urgently made passport. I read other comments that some people received their passport the same day, just a few hours later but my cousin was given an appointment for the following day to pick up his passport. A few things: - To pay the passport fee - a major credit card, or money order, or cash - have exact cash (they dont give change, they don't accept more than the fee amount, and they don't accept coins)! - print your international travel itinerary - leave gerbers, Leatherman, and other knives, multitools, and definitely all weapons in your vehicle - phone use, especially taking pictures, is prohibited unless explicitly allowed by the passport agent (that goes for the rest of the federal building too) - have coins for street parking Park in a designated slot on the street. Although there is a parking, I believe it is only for employees. There are guards at the parking lot entrance and signs the annotate the requirement for a permit. I was worried my cousin would have to reschedule his travel but making an appointment, visiting the agency, and being able to process the application on short notice was an impressive service I witnessed. I don't recommend abusing this process as a standard means to renewing your passport but if absolutely necessary in urgent or emergency circumstances, I would highly recommend it. I'm not sure it's this office or the Department in general, but my passport renewal has taken over 13 weeks despite the original (6-9 weeks) and updated processing times (8-11 weeks). Thanks to my Senator's office, they were able to find out it's been in the Honolulu office for weeks. So slow, without remorse or care, and the Passport Division and entire Department is not geared to support their citizens. There is no customer support, only simple websites passing along general information. Change the process, offer real information, and provide support. read more

Wish I could give more stars! Was working on my online renewal when I read about the upcoming passport fair at the Federal building. Called the number, spoke to a very professional person and got myself an appointment for 1:00 on 7 September. Once inside I had my paperwork reviewed and processed and was told I would receive my new passport in 6-8 weeks. I was out the door within 15 minutes. Flash forward to today, 13 September, and the mail carrier just delivered my new passport! This was outstanding service from beginning to end from a Federal agency. Happy Travels for me! read more

Renewing my passport... Ten years ago, I renewed my passport. I remember mailing my old passport to the mainland right before I went to Egypt. I received it back in time, so I wasn't too worried about mailing it to Pennsylvania this time. I went to my neighborhood post office to look for the passport renewal form, but there were none. I don't have a printer, so I'm unable to complete and print the form online. Therefore, I went to the Federal Building on the corner of Punchbowl and Halekauwila. I found metered street parking and entered from the Halekauwila door. After passing through security and showing my ID, I followed signs to the Passport Office. I understand that this office mainly serves those who need an expedited transaction and an appointment is recommended. I just wanted a form to fill out. I had my passport photos from AAA, so, the woman at the counter helped me staple my photo to the form and showed me the address which I need to write on my envelope. I also enclosed a check for $110. Nowhere on the form states the amount. I'm glad that I went in person for help in renewing my passport. I'm not leaving the country until next month, so I have time for a regular renewal. Although it took me weeks to get an appointment, I was able to get one in Honolulu. Being from Texas my heart fell out of my butt because it was the day before our flight to London. I was early because of reading online I should be even though my appointment was at 8:30 am. We waited patiently outside and went through security when it was our turn, which was quick and easy. The process once inside was great. Everyone was super nice and understanding about my situation. I was able to get my sons passport approved and luckily printed the same day before we were scheduled to be back at the airport to fly to TX then grab our things and head back to airport to get to London where I am sitting as I type this up. I am trying to set up an appointment and it is IMPOSSIBLE. I called this morning although the number was not working/busy, then I proceeded to email NPIC@state.gov and still nothing. I tried calling again and the automated voice said the wait was only about 1hr30min so i stayed BUT it has been 3 HOURS (which is so ridiculous) and it's just so frustrating, yet still nothing. Now the office hours has closed so there was no point on being in hold. THE WEBSITE ISN'T CLEAR THAT'S WHY I'M CALLING YOU! While telling her that I did check the website and that the website wasn't clear, she hung up on me before I could finish my sentence. Was it really necessary to hang up on me? Is it that hard to answer my question? I am a young professional and by no means stupid or dumb. Made my appointment online a few days prior for 9:00am, and got through the security very quickly. There was no line at the booths, and both of the workers were very helpful and quick. They asked a few questions, I told them my situation, and they were able to get my passport ready a few hours before my flight left, two days later. Very helpful in answering questions that I had, and when the worker wasn't sure of something either, instead of BS'ing it like some other places would probably do, they actually talked to their supervisor to get the correct information so nothing got messed up. The day I picked up my passport, there was a line (I got there 15 minutes before they opened, at 8:15am) but moved fairly quickly. I don't travel until 2 months from now. They only take those traveling within 2 weeks. They referred me to the USPS Passport Center. Just FYI the passport center is only open on Tues/Fri/Sat. Horrible experience this morning....called the 877 number to make an appt for this upcoming Saturday for my son who is 13. Since he is a minor and we can't just renew his passport, we need to make an appointment. I explained this to the woman I talked to and she responded as if she was reading from a script. It almost feels like it's impossible to give a 5-star review to a government agency, but I have to. It really is so efficiently ran from inside and out. After scheduling my appointment for an expedited passport, I was anxious to get there so I arrived early with everything I needed. Being that I was flying to Europe, I needed to stop somewhere in the mainland first and I only purchased my international ticket (this is what they ask for on the government website). I will note the woman who checked me in asked me why I didn't book my flight to the mainland and I told her the website doesn't ask for that requirement but I stepped outside and was able to purchase the ticket. She told me I was able to step out and get back in line once I had the confirmation code. And for them to not check that ticket, only the international one. Lol. Either way my appointment was on a Thursday and I was told to pick up my passport on Monday. It was a breeze. I'm so glad I was able to get it done here. The only difficult part was finding where the office is because the buildings all look the same. Luckily, I asked someone outside and they were able to direct me where I had to go. read more

Been here a few times to do passport stuff. There will be long slow lines no matter where and when you go, for stuff like this. Everyone's situation is a little bit different as well as their level of preparedness. Same with the DMV. That being said, I have had nothing but great help and service the few times I've been here. Everyone has been super nice and done a great job making sure I had everything I needed. Like others have said, don't be a sucker like I was the first few times, and drive around and around looking for metered street parking to open up. Park across the street and buy a can of soda for a buck on the way back, and get a validation. So so much easier and faster. read more

I don't know about others but usually I dread having to do anything involving our national bureaucratic organizations but this experience was a treat. I made my appointment about 3 weeks in advance and on the day of, I received a phone call about 30 minutes beforehand from Yvonne, asking me if I had any questions and if I'd still be coming for my appointment. Apparently she goes out of her way to do this for customers due to COVID confusion and clarifying fees, etc. When I showed up, I didn't even have to wait 2 minutes from my arrival for help. Yvonne was the worker who wound up helping me at my appointment and even though I wasn't even all the way prepared (whoops), she made dual copies of my documents so I could have a spare and she was patient with me and reiterated instructions in a way that was kind. When I got my photo taken, she even took it as many times as necessary for me to get a picture I liked and that worked well for the application. (It was only three takes, but still!) Yvonne was very polite, courteous and to top it off, apparently super efficient at her job because I got my NON-EXPEDITED, not rushed anything passport back in 9 days. 9 days!!!! What?!? No one likes travel troubles. Fact. So I began my journey to the Honolulu Passport Agency with a bad attitude. But their friendly staff turned my frown upside down so fast I didn't know what hit me! It all began when I found out I couldn't get a visa to Japan because I didn't have any more pages in my passport. Understandable, I guess. "Alright, I'll just call around and see if anyone can put more pages in," I thought. Sounds easy enough. And who better to stick a couple extra pages in my passport than the Official Honolulu Passport Agency? Naturally, I wanted to call to inquire about this service. I Yelped it, I Googled it, I even busted out my untouched copy of the Yellow Pages...all I found was this stupid 1-877 number with an automated appointment scheduling system! That's right folks, there is no local phone number for the Honolulu Passport Agency. After calling the 1-877 number, attempting to reach a human, and hanging up on it several times, I decided to bite the bullet and just use it to make an appointment. Despite my annoyance, it was actually really easy to use. Before I knew it, I had an appointment for 9am the following morning. The next morning I drove down to 300 Ala Moana Blvd and things went so smoothly I almost didn't believe it! I found street parking right in front of the building. I looked all over my car for some quarters to put in the meter (literally the only change I had on me was 6 pennies. What?!). Just as I was about to give up and vacate my glorious parking stall, I saw that the meter still had 1:30 left! THANK YOU whoever put way too much money in your meter on Thursday morning!!! I looked at the building and realized I had NO CLUE where to go. Suite I-330...what does that mean?! 3rd floor? The I building? So I walked into the first door I saw and straight into a double guarded metal detector scan station. "Is this where the Passport Office is?" I asked the stone-faced guard. Then he smiled! "Yup. ID please." Phew. I chose lucky door #1. (Sadly, I can't advise you which door it was because it was unmarked, but it was across the street from the back side of Restaurant Row if that helps...) I walked through the metal detector and the guard told me the office was down the hall and to the left. He was so friendly! I'm guessing I wasn't the first completely confused person he had ever encountered on the job. Walked past another guard. "Good morning!" Woah. Friendly guard #2. Then another guard. "Good morning, ma'am! How can we help you today?" Wow. Where's the unlimited free coffee you're all getting?! I need some! "I have a 9:00 appointment." "Right this way!" I was lead to yet another freakishly friendly man behind a window who checked me in and helped me fill out the appropriate form. Then I waited...and waited...and waited...in a huge room with tons of chairs and a TV. Finally, they called my number and Brandy called me to her window to process my passport and collect payment. (They're lucky they're so flippin' nice in there, I paid a pretty penny for a few extra sheets of paper! $142...holy ripoff!) She processed my paperwork, wished me a happy belated birthday (she actually took the time to notice I had a birthday last week. Awesome.) and sent me on my way. read more

Purpose: Renew passport When I think of any governmental agency to get something processed (mostly just thinking about the DMV), the first thing that comes to my mind is definitely not speed of service. Contrary to my expectations, the Honolulu Passport Agency was a nice surprise. Following Cynthia A.'s recommendation below, I parked in the Restaurant Row parking structure and walked across the street. As Pualena P. mentioned, the guards at the security check point (south side) were friendly. Signage to get to the US Passport office is clear so you shouldn't get lost either. When I arrived, the place only had 1 other customer and despite arriving 30 minutes before my appointment (make the appointment via the telephone number on the travel government website before you go), my papers were processed as soon as I walked in and within 10 minutes, I paid the bill and was out. The people who helped me were very friendly, as well. I'm not sure how much longer it would have taken if I didn't have my papers printed and filled out beforehand (and passport photo included), so I would recommend downloading the proper forms, filling them out, and having your 2"x2" passport photo to make things easier. After I left, I walked back to Restaurant Row, got some lunch, had my ticket validated, and I was out - no fuss. Hope it's this easy 10 years from now when I get my passport renewed again! read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE!! Haha. First off, location is busy and kinda sucks when it comes to important appointments. Park at the garage with Ruth's Chris (sp). It's right next to this passport agency and you can easily grab subway or a snack to validate it. I believe it's free for 2 1/2 - 3 hours. Second, this place does NOT, I repeat DOES NOT HAVE THEIR OWN PHONE LINE SERVICE. If you call an 808 number, it's probably the post office number for their passport office. The number you call is the one on here (877?) it's easy to use to make an appointment and it is available 24/hrs. *must have appt. NO walk ins for expedited(?) When you call the automated number, you will need a paper and pen, and your ssn. You need to write your appointments confirmation code. Lastly, Just make sure you have all of your documents and scheduled an appointment. It will be very easy. Documents for a lost or expired passport: 1. Lost passport form and/or passport application form filled out* as needed (available online) 2. Birth certificate OR old undamaged US passport 3. Passport photo (go to Walmart took 15 mins and was like 8 dollars) 4. Unexpired identification photo ID. (Military/drivers) and photo copy it front and back just in case they won't. I had one but they just did it themselves. However, on their site it says to bring one. 5. Major credit card or check (about 195 dollars) 6. Proof of international travel (HAS TO BE IN TWO WEEKS!) don't panic. I went in on a Monday, had them mail my passport and got it on the following Thursday. Super satisfied! I had a standby flight to catch today and it turns out that my passport expires less than 6 months and some countries will not accept it to travel if it isn't renewed. Frustrated as I was, I made an appointment online because they don't take walk ins. Fortunately, they had a few appointments available. I went home to print out the renewal forms, copied my ID, print my itineraries and hotel confirmations and got my passport photo taken at restaurant row across the street. I rushed to the Honolulu Passport Agency and requested an emergency passport expedite ($170). Without any problems they were able to assist and give me a new passport the same day within the hour. **Keep in mind, I came at the perfect time. It was empty and not busy at all. The employees there were so helpful and surprisingly nice compared to previous personal experiences with Czech Republic consulate in California. I was so bummed I couldn't make my flight earlier but it was bound to happen. This whole process of renewing my passport was stress free. I recommend anyone applying or renewing their passports to have all your forms, papers, payment and pictures ready. read more

The location is somewhat hard to find but that could be because my GPS is a little off. So the only reason I did not give the place five stars is because of the useless appointment time. For an appointment you have to call and punch your way through a telephone tree to schedule it. Which is o.k. the only I problem I had is that when you show up and the person behind the counter asks you do you have an appointment and you say yes. Your appointment time is not honored. For example, imagine you have any appointment time for 1030. You arrive and stand in line. The person in front of you, who also takes forever, clearly states that they do not have an appointment. The staff helps them out and gives them a ticket number, i.e. number 15. (Everyone goes to the first line so staff can check paperwork before it is processed.) You are next with an appointment time of 1030 and check in. The number the teller gives you is 16. Meaning the person without an appointment will still be seen ahead of you regardless of your appointment time. Besides that, the passport process is pretty quick. Ordered one on Monday and got it by Saturday. read more

Generally when dealing with government run agencies my experiences are relatively painful. BUT, this was one of the most painless experiences I have ever had. So I am travelling to New Zealand in less than a week and I just realized that my passport expires in less than 3 months. I freaked out of course because I am completely unprepared. So I rushed on over to the passport agency, without a reservation, praying to the gods above that they would let me through. THEY DID AND THEN IT TOOK ME A TOTAL OF 20 MINUTES TO COMPLETE MY PASSPORT STUFF. absolutely incredible. The staff was also very helpful and friendly. Just picked up my passport yesterday so I figured I would leave a review on how everything went. I was a bit clueless on this place since its been a long while that I did my passport so I decided to check on yelp reviews and the website, I kept reading that you need an appointment, I was so worried because I wasnt sure how fast the process would be and I was flying for a family emergency. I wish I could give them 10 STARS for SERVICE! I've never been to a government office with such great service. I realized the day before my trip to Japan/Thailand that my passport was going to expire in less than 6 months. I guess I've relied too heavily on my parents to take care of my important documents because I didn't realize I potentially wouldn't be able to enter some countries. CRAP! Luckily I had the whole day and luckily my coworkers were understanding so I went to work early and then sped downtown to obtain a new passport. Although I knew my coworker had been able to get his passport on the same day there was no guarantee so I didn't want to walk in confident. I walked in, quickly explained my story to a nice lady who thanked me for waiting in line (maybe 5-7 minutes) and was asked to sit down. Since I didn't have an appointment I had to wait a little longer than those with one but I didn't sit there more than 30 minutes. I had come prepared with all my documents in hand and new photo and went to window my number was assigned to. The girl was so sweet and reassured me she would have it done by that day. She even offered to call me when it was ready. (Later that day - she called me just to let me know it would be a little longer than she had told me it would be) Even though I had to drop $170 on a brand new passport it was so worth the money and I had such a positive experience it didnt hurt as much.
