Just by taking a look at this magazine and comparing it to any other magazine you can see that it is a quality magazine. You can even notice the quality of the stock of paper they print on, no other magazine like it. The stories are tasteful and always interesting. The colors of the pictures and ads jump off the page. Also Hana Hou just started publishing Japanese language and Korean language inflight magazines for Hawaiian which are destined to be just as awesome as the English Hana Hou! magazines.

We have been to the Atherton location for a 20s retro night and to watch one of our favorite Hawaiian bands, Keauhou, during the Live at the Atherton series. I almost missed it because it right on the corner. I would have probably missed it if I didn't see a sign and staff out there waving us in. First of all, I'd like to say that PBS Hawaii does an awesome job exciting young minds to create videos. They run a great program called Hiki No which are student produced video stories. I'm really into learning and trying to teach my students how to do that. I have been trying for years but PBS Hawaii's program is wonderful. In the past I've just had to learn on my own. I'm not a professional videographer or even photographer so I don't really know what I'm doing. With Hiki No, they provide mentors to students to help them with their projects. This will be my first year participating in this with my school but we are excited. I'm excited for my students and also myself. I'm glad that I can take part in this process. Anyways, I was at PBS Hawaii because they had several breakout sessions during the day to teach us more about the video process. It was great. They had actual industry professionals giving teachers advice of how to start and what kind of shots would be best. For me, it was the first time that I really felt like I could do this. I'm excited for my students that they get expert help this year. Everyone at PBS Hawaii is wonderful. They're excited to learn about future projects and willing to work with new students.

It has since broken way from the state and renamed and rebranded itself to PBS Hawaii, which I think has done wonders for the organization. The brand new multi-million dollar broadcasting facility on the corner of Sand Island Access Road and Nimitz is a HUGE improvement from their previous facility at UH Manoa, and I'll bet this would not have been possible had it still been under the ownership/management of the state. This new facility enables PBS Hawaii to produce a lot of great local programming including HIKI NO, which are stories on topics of local interest, made and produced by Hawaii's own middle and high schoolers from public and private schools! In addition to the quality programming that PBS Hawaii airs on TV, it also hosts exclusive events for Keiki Club members, such as this past weekend's halloween costume party which was held at their brand new studio. As keiki club members, we got a little peak at their new facility and also got a photo op with Daniel Tiger! If you want to join in on the fun, just google 'pbs hawaii keiki club' for more info. $30 annual donation gets your child a cool welcome packet, on-air birthday greeting, birthday card and surprise present, quarterly newsletter, and most important, invites to exclusive members-only events!

Kumu- Apply named to teach many new listeners how to by…read moresound hear an era of music quickly. Yes, it is easier listening, almost all the words are easily distinctly heard. You won't hear Snow's Informer on it ever. You will likely hear a modern ballad like a Sam Smith but also a classic 80's like Soft Cell's Tainted Love classic. That is important for new listeners. Being able to hear and appreciate music from a few eras in a row and enjoy that music. Twitter blows up when Paul McCartney performs alongside a modern rapper. That they feel bad for an older male singer- but if they had listened to music on stations like KUMU they wouldn't make dumb comments immediately but appreciate music for listening sake. KUMU is easy contemporary listening, safe radio edit all the way. Is it for everyone- in general yes, that the music has such a wide variety and calm instrumentation which is heavy on vocals, it is good background music especially for an office. Easy listening/ non confrontational/ contemporary music, heavy on male and female vocals, great harmonies, easy melodies. What is unique about Kumu verses another contemporary station on the mainland is that you may hear great local female singers like Helm, Anuhea, and Na Leo, and the greatest Braddah Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. I still feel that Iz could be played in a loop about 3 or 4 songs like his Over the Rainbow at a wedding, funeral, or keiki first birthday for an angry crowd waiting impatiently and after just a few bars of him- the entire mood of the crowd would be calm and relaxed- not just in Hawaii but mainland too, most wouldn't recognize his voice by name but people would connect to the universal-ness of his peaceful voice. KUMU is a good station to go to for keeping the peace on longer car rides if there is a mixed group- always some song playing that more than one person will remember and really connect with emotionally. Every now and then - they have a pop up tent playing music live or semi live, for example I've seen then play at the Art Museum and broadcast during a family event. Sometimes it is neat to see them live.

So we ended the call and i KNEW that wasnt true. So i checked my email and it said the 28th. So i called the same number back in less then 30 seconds and the guy answers and hangs up. I called 33 times and each time i can hear background noise then a hang up. Then the last few times it would just ring and ring. So i decided to call a different number 8089471500 and the same guy answered. So i acknowledged that he hung up on me 33 times and that i double checked my email and the time and date i arrived was correct. And now he says sarcastically "yes your right. He says sarcastically again "yes yes youre right, youre right. Im sorry but the nothing i can do" theres 100000 people laid off from work and not working and your telling me you guys are short on staff? Something is not right and someone is lying here.
