Just by taking a look at this magazine and comparing it to any other magazine you can see that it is a quality magazine. You can see that there is huge effort that goes into the design of this magazine as well as the stories and the pictures that go into it. You can even notice the quality of the stock of paper they print on, no other magazine like it. The stories are tasteful and always interesting. The colors of the pictures and ads jump off the page. Also Hana Hou just started publishing Japanese language and Korean language inflight magazines for Hawaiian which are destined to be just as awesome as the English Hana Hou! magazines.

I almost missed it because it right on the corner. I would have probably missed it if I didn't see a sign and staff out there waving us in. First of all, I'd like to say that PBS Hawaii does an awesome job exciting young minds to create videos. They run a great program called Hiki No which are student produced video stories. I'm really into learning and trying to teach my students how to do that. I have been trying for years but PBS Hawaii's program is wonderful. In the past I've just had to learn on my own. I'm not a professional videographer or even photographer so I don't really know what I'm doing. With Hiki No, they provide mentors to students to help them with their projects. This will be my first year participating in this with my school but we are excited. I'm excited for my students and also myself. I'm glad that I can take part in this process. Anyways, I was at PBS Hawaii because they had several breakout sessions during the day to teach us more about the video process. It was great. They had actual industry professionals giving teachers advice of how to start and what kind of shots would be best. For me, it was the first time that I really felt like I could do this. I'm excited for my students that they get expert help this year. Everyone at PBS Hawaii is wonderful. They're excited to learn about future projects and willing to work with new students.

This new facility enables PBS Hawaii to produce a lot of great local programming including HIKI NO, which are stories on topics of local interest, made and produced by Hawaii's own middle and high schoolers from public and private schools! I miss the good ole days when we had some truly independent radio stations out here before being bought out by an evil empire. I kid you not when I heard the annoying song by Taylor Swift "Blank Space" a few years ago playing in one radio station that I quickly changed it to another station only to hear the same song on that station and changed it a third station playing the same song. What. The. Faka?! Also is it me that I heard her say "Starbucks Lovers" instead of the lyrics of list of ex-lovers? And speaking of lyrics...Ariana Grande's "Thank U, Next" to me sounds like "Steaks and Eggs!" or "Bacon Eggs" depending on your mood. Having just returned from Oahu for a quick vacation, there are several Reggae stations that we listened to and 93.1 was on the top of our list. Love the vibe and selections they play. My only knock is they play limited songs and also repeat them, but I don't mind because it's music I like listening to. I was feeling "homesick" and needed some Reggae vibes while drivin' and asked Wifey if we could stream their station on line. Sure enough, I plugged in my iPhone and suddenly we were back in Oahu again feelin' the island vibes as I drifted on the right lane and even started to drive slower. Yup, had that effect on me right away and I was calm, relaxed and mellow as we drove home listening to island soul music. Note: Reno and Carson City has better radio stations than the Bay Area.
