Super friendly staff (including the proprietor/owner) that is walking around ready to answer questions, take your items to the front to hold for you, and good walking around area. Such a wide selection of products from Hawaii magnets, to reusable carry (shopping, unloading the car) bags, jewelry, clothing, T-shirts, a wide selection of Meilelani bags, Christmas ornaments, lotions, aromatics, and much much more. I was in the shop last Monday. We came to visit the island after being away due to Covid and were thrilled to return. (My father lived on the island for over forty years and we have many treasured memories there.) I walked in and was loudly ordered to sanitize my hands. Of course I complied, but to be honest it was abrupt and slightly off putting. I shopped around and found three small items to purchase as gifts. The black "leather" flower purse I got was half off and in the original packing bag; perfect for packing in my suitcase. After I brought the purse home I opened it for wrapping and found that the "leather" had flaked off and looked old and was quite frankly a huge mess. Black flakes were everywhere and the entire bag was in terrible shape. There was no way I could give this as a gift. In fact, I threw it away. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. I don't think I will ever go back into that store. Not the kind of shopping experience to repeat. read more

Wow, I discovered what others have discovered, the owner was rude. As my mother would say, " It's not what you say but how you say it." While entering and putting g mask on... "sanitize your hands." Abrupt and rude. I had my own. "Yes, you can use it." I left anyway. I'd rather spend my money at a business who appreciated me. read more

Owner was in store today, not friendly. Had an offering of food at the entrance, although she kept saying it's for her customers only... we were there shopping... we were customers... being a traveler I would have loved to buy items however on a budget and no room in my suitcase didn't allow (not to mention mostly it's outdated cheesy style nicnacs only a grandma could love). We asked if since we weren't buying anything we could instead just buy a cupcake or pizza slice- rudely she pointed down the street and said there's food that way. I'd prefer to spend my money elsewhere and I did... across the way at the Tibet style boutique where the owner was over the top nice! The owner was incredibly rude! Do not reccomend. If you want to have a business don't scare people away by being rude!! Very rudely told us to leave our drink at the front, forced us to sanitize our hands, followed me around assuming I was going to steal??? Then yelled at me when my mask fell down that it needs to be over my nose. There's a way to ask people to do things like thag without being rude. Also no one can even come in the island without a negative covid test so whyyyy are you so freaked out. I left without even finishing looking around. Stopped by here to poke around. They have a lot of good items made on the islands and sourced from Kauai and Oahu also. I was able to get some silk screened tea towels from Oahu, a mug hang painted on Kauai and, a set of place mats made in Hawaii. Lovely hand made Hawaiian quilts here as well as hand painted quilts from Bali. There are lots of gifts for everyone in your family as they also carry local sea salts and seasonings, jams, and other gift items. I have my eye on one of those hand painted quilts and may have to call from the mainland to get it shipped to me. Worth stopping by for a small souvenir for your home. The wonderful woman working there was not the owner but had tons of aloha. Definitely worth a look and a purchase. They accept MC, Visa and, cash. Not sure about check. Past 15 years, every times we visit Big Island we always shop at Honokaa market place , our home in Santa Cruz still have a lot of things we bought through out those years like Hawai'i theme comforter bed set, pillow cases, jewelry, clothing , dinner set, etc.......... ! People was then very nice and friendly, but not any more until last Thursday Sept 12,2019. First stop we shopped at Hand of Tibet , we glad to back here again to support small business also the Tibet Buddhist monk. After that we cross the street then rain start purring , we got inside see 3 women hang round I knew right away the store must has a new owner, I found a pair embroidered red hibiscus that was I looking for to matching a pair pink Plumeria I bought them few years back from this store. My partner asked those women for quick use restroom and they said go down to the street use a public county park. I am shock to heard that. Raining day no customer I am the only there to spend $, they should happy to make a sale instead they was rude and no class. My 9000sf mansion in Santa Cruz not look ugly if it doesn't have a pair of pillow cases from them. Don't go there , so plenty gift shops around you can bring home the souvenir. Those women I hope have a better life some where else. Mean while if they are still working there the Honokaa Marketplace will go down to the toilets. read more

This place is hit or miss. They have some nice items. However, much of their merchandise is very overpriced. Also, the sales staff can be rude and off putting. read more
