Judging by some of the reviews people had some very disproportionate expectations. This is a no frills American Chinese place. There is very little place to sit, it's noisy and it's busy. This is the place you go to get your takeout and sit at home like the potato you are at heart. And it's DAMN GOOD NETFLIX BINGE FOOD. They are also clean!! Hong Kong does a fine job of being the local, go-to Chinese eatery. While they have a few tables and chairs, along with an ATM, this place is mostly for takeout or delivery. There are about two other Chinese restaurants in the vicinity but, in my book, none are as frequented, focused and fine at what they do in the way that Hong Kong is. The food is pretty tasty. I found myself enjoying the crisp green onions and broth of a large wonton soup the other day. The wontons themselves could have been more filled but it all came together very well. The classics are consistently solid and it's worth taking a risk to try a new dish. Their pork fried rice is something I'd order again.. Service is friendly yet efficient--which I always appreciate. You can tell who the regulars are. And of course, calling your order in minimizes your wait time. No restrooms available to customers. It is pretty impressive how clean the place appears and this includes the open kitchen that you can see from the door. Attention management : Although staff is great and my daughters really love the cheese sticks. And the fries are also so delicious. I have concerns with the sanitary and safety practices. There should not be a child walking in and out of the kitchen that is absolutely unacceptable. This is not someone's home kitchen this is a business. One should know that the safety protocols are being followed when preparing our food. It's hard to believe when employees are using the facilities as child care. My go to Chinese spot in the area! It is extremely clean and the food rarely disappoints. I always get their chicken and broccoli, either with white or yellow rice, or their sesame chicken, or the fried chicken wings with fries ... I eat from here a lot. Of course, like every other restaurant and even person, sometimes the food is not the best. But more often than not it is amazing food! The place is clean (not sure about that person mentioning they saw a rat, sounds extremely false) and it is hands down, by far the best Chinese restaurant in the neighborhood. read more

I always wonder what prompts people to give mediocre chinese takeout spots 5 stars. Come on guys, they are all a dime a dozen! And Hong Kong is no different. I've eaten here 2x now and, as I went with others, I had a chance to sample a good amount of the lunch menu and more (from wonton and hot n sour soup to the egg rolls, dumplings, beef and broccoli, general tso's, kung pao chicken, etc.) and everything was completely acceptable, but absolutely nothing stood out. I definitely didn't have the same experience as one of the other posters. My egg roll was less greasy than expected but all of the entrees were over-sauced and the meat was clearly of pretty low quality, esp. the beef. So I work in the local area and have visited this establishment a couple times. I usually get the half chicken with fried rice. The chicken is ALWAYS over cooked dry and tasteless. The rice is mushy and completely tasless. The only reason I've returned is out of convince and hopes of getting LUCKY and having a property cooked meal. On my last visit I purchased my usual half chicken with fried rice a 2 egg rolls. I did notice there were no condiments for the food included so I politely asked for some hot sauce. 3 packets of hot sauce and six duck sauce for the 2 egg rolls. When I paid I noticed the price was not what I had been quoted when I ordered for pick up. She told me she charged me extra for the condiments cause I asked for too much. Now the point is not the 25 cents charged for condiments that are included at every Chinese restaurant that I've visited but that they had the odasity to charge extra to teach me a lesson. Well lesson leared. They have lost my business and any future customers I could had sent to them. The fact is that over the years I've sent plenty of costumers to them. So now I will send future customers to the Chinese restaurant around the corner that cook better anyway. Was it worth the 25 cents for condiments? Was it's worth the greed? Fu wing at 153 east 106 street (just around the corner) is a much better choice. I find that fu wing cooks much better and is much cleaner that this establishment. I've actually seen mice run past my feet at the "Great Hong Kong" on another occasion. I've also heard many complaints about the food and the cleanness of The "great Hong Kong" Chinese restaurant From coworkers in my work establishment. this place is pretty good. just visiting the area for the holidays and pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. perfect place to get your chinese takeout fix. the food is not too oily, salty or saucy for chinese takeout (relatively) and tastes great. added to my go to list for chinese in the area. read more
