I'd probably give this place more of a 2.5 star rating. We wanted a meal before leaving Rome and since this was close to the terminal, albeit in a seedy part of town, we opted to try some Chinese food in Italy. It was a really hot day so it really sucks that it feels like there's no air conditioning in the restaurant. Also, not sure why it's called Hong Kong F&S when the people in there don't speak Cantonese and the food tastes more like northern Chinese food than southern.
The West Lake soup had no cilantro at all. Not a real problem since the taste was decent, but just thought it was strange. The soup gets its name because of the cilantro in there, making it look like the lotus leaves in West Lake.
Anyway, random trivia aside, the dry stir-fried beef noodles were okay. Pretty small portions for the price (as with everything we ordered). Some of the noodles were too firm. Nothing special, but we ordered the most basic dishes in case this restaurant sucked. The bai cai were forgettable and greasy. The black pepper beef was decent, but some of the meat was too tough to chew. What a waste.
Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant. Overpriced, small portions, and doesn't hold a candle to NYC Chinese food. And they should probably get some new rice bowls...they were way too hot to hold. read more
