Came by as I was staying by the area. Really craving Chinese food. Decided to give this place a try since there were good reviews. Once entering, I had asked for a table for 1. It took all the waiters so long to even sit me. They ended up sitting me downstairs, although there was space upstairs. I ordered the fried tofu with vegetables, as I normally would at any Chinese restaurant. The food came super quick, the tofu wasn't even fried/crispy. It was limp and barely fresh, not much vegetables either. I was so hungry I just ate it. Why am I yelping an Asian restaurant while in Italy?! Because you can take the girl out of Vietnam, but you can't take Vietnam out of the girl. Wow. Zero stars if possible. We had been here before and it wasn't bad. So we came back a few years later as we thought, in the era of mass tourism in Rome let's try something we know. Our logic's being Rome is seriously compromised in the Restaurant department, and if you don't know good restaurants you're gonna have bad food. If you want good food you have to be seriously intentional about finding it. Anyway the food we ordered curry prawns and crispy beef was bland terribly and poor Ingredient quality. So that shouldn't be one Star alone. Well the crispy beef was of such poor quality every bite was grisly gross and then a few bites in, it happened, a piece of long grisly beef got stuck in my teeth. It was so long that between each swallow it would just start going down my throat then be pulled back into my mouth. This went on for like thirty seconds and it was becoming a serious choking and gag reflex problem. I had to get up and walk out on the street to take care of a serious food safety situation. Not cool, dangerously gross. Rome is extremely difficult to find good food, you must do your research or get a foodie tour. And if you think it's just a me thing I've eaten on many continents and eaten what 99% of this planet would not eat...Stay away from SiChan. Final note, I've not been into posting good or bad reviews lately, as it' feeling like some social credit score a real life black mirror if you will. This is a place I dream of. After 10 days in Italy I was ready for other food. I went back twice in the same day to get more food. The service was incredible and the space was small and welcoming. It's not heavy or too greasy that you have an upset stomach. You feel full and the ingredients are fresh. I can't wait to go back! My husband and I have traveled from California and have been in Italy for two weeks. Craving something other than Italian food, we found this place online. There were both pros and cons to our experience. One downside was the customer service: the staff was not welcoming and did not assist with the menu. Additionally, they had discontinued some items that were still listed in the menu. The sweet and sour chicken was disappointing--bland chicken and more sweet than sour. We ordered wontons, but what we received was wonton soup, which, although tasty, did not match the photo in the menu. The portions were smaller than we expected, likely because we're used to larger California portions. On the positive side, the restaurant was inexpensive. Disclaimer: this was the only Chinese food I had while visiting Rome so my comparison will be to Chinese food I've had at home. This is a small restaurant but worth the visit. The food was yummy and well seasoned. Some dishes can be spicy so keep that in mind while ordering. We had the pork fried rice, cold sesame noodles, shrimp with mushrooms and bamboo, and fried Chinese vegetables. Excellent, excellent, excellent food, taste authentic and delicious. If you think is oily or 2spicy or 2salty that is not Szechuan style cooking. Szechuan cooking is top five in China beside Cantonese, Hunan, Jiangsu and Zhejiang. I was impressed because I don't think that business can survive in Rome. This cuisine either you love it or you don't like (hate) and have no middle choice. I am an Asian chef and I know what I am having today at this restaurant. After days of amazing Italian food, we needed to get our fill of spicy Asian food, and were so glad to have found Sichuan. We stopped there for lunch and after our tour of the Colosseum. The restaurant is clean, cozy. There were a few other guests (always comforting to see other diners). This place was an absolute joke. I don't understand these "good" reviews. They must be fake. As soon as we got to this restaurant we should've left by the way we were greeted by the worker. We asked if we could have inside seating because it was chilly outside, and the guy said "we'll see". After waiting we were seating downstairs inside. As a group of 5 we started to share the food on our plates. We waited a bit for the rest of the entrees to come out. Especially the rice and noodles so we could eat them with our chicken dish. A couple min go by, then 10 min, 20 min goes by. Our waitress literally disappeared. Our chicken dish got ice cold and we didn't get anything else served. My husband walked upstairs to tell the guy worker about how we only got 1 entree served to us and that it's cold now and we wanted to eat that dish with the rest of our entrees and rice/noodles. Keep in mind still we're a family of FIVE so only getting 1 dish served with a large separation between the rest of the food is ridiculous . We only had a few pieces of chicken each on our plates waiting for the rest. But it got cold. So anyways the guy worker told my husband to go back downstairs and that the rest of the food was coming. And that he can warm up our chicken in the microwave? Yuck. He goes back downstairs and the rest of our food still wasn't there. At that point our appetite went away. We still didn't see our waitress but saw a different one after a couple min. I think it might've been a food runner because she brought our 2 more of our entrees. Just the rice and noodles. We still had beef and another dish coming out. She sat down our noodles and rice and kid you not, those food items were COLD too. How can that be? We started to eat a little bit before realizing it was cold and we flagged that same food runner down and told her we needed all of that food to be remade and wanted it HOT. She looked at us puzzled and she asked what she wanted her to do so we politely asked her for it to be remade because we waited forever just for our food to be freezing cold. She takes those food plates away. Several mins passed again and we still haven't seen our original waitress. The food runner later comes back about 5-10 min later and she brought out the SAME EXACT DISH THAT WE HAD. The one that was partially eaten and freezing cold! Didn't even remake it for us. Or at least even heat it up? What was she doing with our food that whole 5-10 min and why would you bring it back to us after we asked for it to be remade because it was ice cold? We were all very agitated at that point and decided to get our stuff ready to leave. We raised our voice to let the food runner know we were disappointed in the service and experience and she started to cuss at us. So unprofessional. We started to head upstairs and talked amongst each other and made an agreement to pay for what we ate, such as the 2 appetizers and our drinks. Which is fair because why would we pay for ice cold food and plus we were missing 2 more of our entrees. We walked upstairs where the register was and saw the male worker at the front and our original server and food runner. We told them we're only paying for what we ate/drank. They started fighting with us saying we owed $80+ dollars and that was with "a discount". And that they want their money because "we ate everything" and that they're a business. Which we barely ate anything! We told the male worker to go look at our plates downstairs and that we barely touched our food. He refused and kept fighting with us. My mom and I walked away outside while my husband dad and brother were still inside talking with the workers. They started to become racist towards us and asking "where are you from? You American? This is ITALY." Basically using Italy as an excuse for their crappy service, even though we've been here for weeks and had nothing but amazing service everywhere we've gone. Also several of us are in the restaurant industry and know how things are, so treating customers like that was a JOKE. Anyways they kept trying to make us pay the full amount which we were refusing, so we told them a price we will pay( which is exactly what we consumed) and they kept saying"no we need your money, we're a business". After all the racial slurs they were saying to us, yelling, etc we just threw down $50 euros because we had enough of them and walked out. On top of it all the food was honestly nasty. One dish was pretty good and that was the twice cooked pork which I believe they call spicy pork dish. The hot and sour soup had tomatoes.. which was strange. This place was a gem. I was shocked to see there were not much customers. My bf and I ordered 5 dishes ourselves and we were soo full. The bill came out so much cheaper than I had expected. Having finally got to Rome after a few days in Puglia, I was dying for some Chinese food. The portions are smaller than your usual American size but each dish was definitely good enough for 2 people and it's authentic as I can say it's just like the ones I've had in Sichuan, China. All I can say to the person with the review here below about the bones and their mouth being numb is obviously being unfamiliar with Sichuan cuisine. All fish have bones, and we always almost cook all our fish with the bones, since anything that's filet might be considered not fresh or possibly frozen. As for the numbing of the mouth, it's probably because of the peppercorn. Most Sichuan dishes are spicy and have dry red pepper or peppercorn, those are used in the dishes for flavoring and not for consuming. Ignorance is a bliss. read more
