Lee's China in Texarkana sits at a steady three stars on Yelp -- not a warning, not a promise…read more Just... there. My plan was simple: order something bulletproof. Egg drop soup and pork-and-shrimp spring rolls. Low risk. Except when I ordered the spring rolls, I was told they're actually chicken. Not pork. Not shrimp. Chicken. Plot twist. I declined. I'd tried calling ahead -- the phone rang endlessly -- so I ordered in person. I patiently sat near the dining room. It's clear this is a largely take out (Grubhub business). Mr. Lee was nowhere to be seen. I'm guessing he moved away decades ago. The people working there now looked like would easily work at a Taqueria. The soup appeared almost immediately, clearly prepped and waiting for its moment. I asked for crispy noodles. "No, that's all you get." Now, the soup. This was not a delicate, silky egg flower broth. This was Campbell's Hearty Chicken Noodle... minus the noodles. Bamboo shoots. Water chestnuts. Peas. Big chunks of chicken. And celery -- which feels like a bold editorial choice in egg drop soup. Price: $8. Ambitious for what I assumed would be a side. Instead, I got a full entrée disguised as a classic. Was it bad? No. Was it egg drop soup? That's debatable. I didn't try anything else out of fear but three stars feels right. If you enjoy culinary reinterpretations, this might be your spot. If you're looking for textbook egg drop soup with quiet restraint and crispy noodles, expect creative liberties.

This is an all-you-can-eat buffet, but the utensils for picking up food were not clean, items lacked labels, and, by appearance and taste, the food might have been left out all day. You can't leave food out in the open for long periods during the day and expect it to maintain quality. Routinely replace items and maintain general cleanliness; your customers will thank you!

Still a little nervous, but between the decor and the sweet lady who showed us to our table and got us settled, I was feeling like this place was legit about to be awesome. The decor was authentic and everything you want in a little hole in the wall Chinese food restaurant. We decided to get both the combos for a little variety and so we could try several things at once. Sweet and sour chicken, sesame chicken, fried rice, lo mein, and egg rolls. After ordering, could hear it being stirred up in a wok in the kitchen. Wonderful! It's fresh made! Munched on some fried wontons while we waited. Food came out and looked amazing. I've never been served sweet and sour chicken with the sauce already on it, usually in a little cup on the side. But I liked it and it was so good. both the sweet and sour chicken and the sesame chicken were perfect. Sauced but still crunchy. All the pieces similar in size and just the right bite size. I hate when you get little pieces and then big chunks. Fried rice was delish. Lo mein was so good, not dry but not too much sauce. Egg rolls were just the crispy taste I wanted. Everything about the meal hit the spot. We will most definitely be back. So glad to find some really good Chinese in Texarkana.
